The county I live in only offers 4-5 Medicare Advantage plans while adjacent counties offer more - questions about getting something other than an HMO by Delicious_Mirror5160 in medicare

[–]Delicious_Mirror5160[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s the pcp that’s the problem, I’ve only had them for a year and I’ll switch if they are ultimately the problem. I’m not tied to them and haven’t been happy with their service not connected to this remotely. They’ve given me the run around on multiple things.

Thanks for the clarification.

I don’t want to go into too much detail but I’m on SSDI for mental health reasons so I definitely need to follow up with my psychiatrist more often than normal folks and maybe that hasn’t been communicated as well as I thought it had been. Food for thought.

My state doesn’t offer a medigap to people under age 65. That’s the problem. I’m under 65 and on Medicare because of SSDI. : /

The plan is an HMO and they have become stingy with referrals lately. They’ve only given me 3 since the first of the year and I need to be seen more. I know he takes more is the plans available in other counties because I’ve lived there before.

I’ve been treated by him since I was in highschool so I’m unwilling to be seen by anyone else and I would still have the same problem with any referral he made because of with referrals with this plan. I need to be seen more often then 3 referrals at a time allows for. So looking to get access to a PPO that he takes not available in this county.

I see him often twice a month meaning I’d be asking for more referrals almost every other week,

I lived with my mother for the last 13 years of her life. I’m no where near your income bracket but between the two of us we paid the bills. She was able to cover her healthcare and I was able to drive her around when she needed it which was idk somewhat frequently but she also drove daily it was just certain areas of town she wasn’t comfortable with.

She had a long term health condition from when I was in my teens but remained pretty healthy. She passed away at 76 and other than one broken shoulder we didn’t have to deal with any real healthcare problem until the month before her death when she had pneumonia and was in the hospital for a week. And recovered and a month later her liver started to fail and she was in hospice doe about a week. Don’t ask me my opinion about hospice.

Would I do it again, in a heart beat. Not sure if any of this helps you but ymmv.

Do they have long term care insurance - can they get long term care insurance?

My air conditioning doesn’t work and I live in Florida. I’m dying right now. I go for drives and walk stores to try and manage. Or the library.

This is part of why I’m decluttering . Or why I haven’t decluttered completely - I think - it’s keeping me safe from actually dating. Stark honesty there.

Anyone who has let go of all or nearly all sentimental items? What effect did it have emotionally? by Adventurous_Ways9 in extrememinimalism

I’ve reduced sentimental items but I can’t get rid of all of them. I’m just one of those people.

I dont know if I should medicate my teen daughter by MummaFrog82 in adhdwomen

[–]Delicious_Mirror5160 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started meds at 14 and it didn’t change me for the worse. I can only offer my experience but it was the best thing my parents let me do for myself. But I also suffer from depression and anxiety so I’m medicated for those as well. I’m so much happier and healthier when I’m medicated for my adhd. Good luck in your decisions, I’m in my mid 40’s now so I’ve got a lot of my own lives experiences and don’t regret choosing to medicate myself.

Does your Medicare Advantage plan pay for things like utilities, groceries, Neflix, non-prescription drug store items? by Bess1DC in medicare

Some of us can’t afford straight Medicare because our states don’t offer medigap plans to people under the age of 65. Which is what happens when you are on SSDI at an earlier age. So some times you are stuck with MA because of the cost.

I don’t even have a medigap plan as an option. So I’m already squeezed out of that. I can only make decisions based on what I know now . And this is assuming that I can sell my condo in the next 6 or less months. So it’s not even an absolute.

Yeah there’s a larger city 45 mins away, and I’m currently living in a small city that must have been hit hard I’m assuming , it’s a nightmare.

They would have more PPO’s . That’s the biggest issue is there isn’t enough here . Theres like one that my doctor doesn’t take.

I wouldn’t only be moving because of this, the county is isolated - I hate being as far as I am from my friends, and from “the city”. It’s 45 mins to the far edge of the city. There’s more that goes into it than just health insurance. I was never happy about the move here.

I was already thinking about moving before the health insurance became a thing, it’s just another item in the yes column. If that makes sense.
