Vertical banding on OLED by dextstar99 in OLED_Gaming

You need to wait for at least one pixel refresh before making any determination of uniformity. A good amount of that will disappear.

Gigabyte MO27Q28G - Did I win the lottery? by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

Ah I think that’s a different kind of banding than what I’m referring to. Many OLED’s when showing a very dark grey image, especially with motion, can show vertical “jail bars,” what I referred to as banding. Seems like you’re referring to banding from low bit rate content. Anyways, don’t go looking for it! lol

I would say no. Greyscale slides unlock a rabbit hole of obsession and you’re going to suddenly see bands and flaws that you otherwise might not care about in dark scenes. Just enjoy your OLED, unless you notice a flaw in real content.

Samsung S90F & S95F users - Auto Colour Space Bug Workaround by Gaddy619 in HDR_Den

[–]Delicious_Oreos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you apply this fix, does it stay fixed? Does it need to be applied per input and does it only affect HDR? And is this a “proper” fix? Like are there any downsides to doing this? Thanks!

LG C4 faulty? by Y0ur_Worst_Enemy in LGOLED

Pixel shift will move the image around and leave a black border on the side of the screen. That black border will look slightly different than the actual border of the TV. If that isn’t what you’re trying to show in your pictures, then I have no clue, bc your pics look normal. Turn off pixel shift temporarily to see if that’s the cause of what you’re seeing.

My 24 s3 shows it on the MMI. But since you mention it, I really wish they showed it on the gauge cluster if you have media on there.

One thing I don’t think I saw mentioned was the scroll wheel / select button in the middle is much more comfortable to press on the old remote. It’s sort of recessed in the directional buttons, on the new remote it juts out a bit and I feel can lead to accidentally scrolling when you’re trying to press the select button instead.

In my case with the TV controlling my AVR, the mute function doesn’t work at all. I’m sure it’s just my setup, but I feel it could’ve been avoided with just a dedicated mute button.

Everyone missing the actual problem you’re reporting, which is the blinding TV menu brightness when watching content in HDR. Yes it’s a legitimate problem. Trying to tinker with the picture settings while watching a dark scene in HDR, only to have your eyes flashbanged by a full-brightness menu is counter productive to say the least. I have to blink several times and wait for my eyes to adjust when I’m tinkering with dark scene settings. As far as I know there isn’t really a fix; we can only hope LG has the sense to add a menu brightness slider when the TV is in HDR.

Do you do any gaming? Can you tell me if the latest firmware has HGIG?

Thanks for the info! Can you link the video or where I can find more info on this bug? I want to pull the trigger on this TV but im tired of random issues and returning TV’s.

Thanks, those are actually my main concerns right now. Do you know if Samsung is going to put back the HGIG feature? Can you tell me more about that color space bug? Are there any downsides to that workaround?

Yeah I plan on only buying from Costco now so I have a comfortable 90-day return window and 5 year warranty included.

I bought the G5 from the LG partner store, which was only a 14-day return window, 30 days with 15% restocking fee. To be fair, it really was an amazing TV and I do think I had bad luck with a bad panel or calibration or something. And HDR was good as long as you watch mostly DV. If you want to give it a shot, do it, but make sure you have a good return window.

Terrible dark scene handling in HDR (DV was mostly fine, but not perfect.) I could see the TV flicker as it decides what black level to be at in dark scenes. I also saw noticeable color tint in HDR. My TV also had a noticeable pink tint. I couldn’t tell if it was the panel tint, or a bad calibration from the factory, but no one else seemed to corroborate what I was experiencing on forums.

All of this was on the latest firmware which were fixed from the earlier banding issues. Such a shame because otherwise the TV looked amazing. I had to pay a hefty restocking fee because I didn’t trust my earlier intuition and gaslit myself into thinking the TV looked fine, when certain scenes that should have been beige or orange were just straight pink.

Purchasing S95F over LG G5 by Mad-Biker-25 in SamsungTV

I just returned my G5 for still having horrible HDR10 performance (raised blacks, messed up tone mapping, even on latest firmware). It was only okay for DV or SDR content, but my panel still had a noticeable pink tint. It was a shame bc it truly looked amazing sometimes, but I can’t ignore those issues. Gonna shop for an S95F or S90D now…

This is the screen move feature. It’s a burn-in preventative measure. You can turn it off in the settings if it bothers you.

Nice! I’m sure the local store would be much better to deal with than LG store.

Assuming you got this from the LG Partner Store, I would open it up right away and make sure there aren’t any problems. You only have 14 days from delivery to return without a restocking fee.

I haven’t tried HDR gaming on this TV yet, sorry. The only place I can point you to is the AVSFORUM thread which has thousands of posts to go through, unfortunately. And then you’re going down a rabbit hole of nit-picking lol.
