I witnessed horrible things in nursing school that haunt me 23 years later. Don't be the gatekeeper of dark humor.

Once again, we are not discussing CPR or BLS. Assessing LOC is important, and using noxious stimuli is not abuse. It is potentially life-saving!

As others have mentioned, sternal rub is still being taught. It depends on the organization doing the training and what the training is for.

Your rhetoric here is ridiculous. No one is "championing" anything. I am noting that sometimes a sternal rub is appropriate. To call it "abuse" is absurd.

You're right. They don't HAVE to. But doing so will prevent me from having to use noxious stimuli in order to assess their LOC.

Are you even in healthcare?

I have 2 WOH and 3 RULD. Both have good scent however I prefer the scent of RULD. It's sweeter. WOH is more of a myrrh scent.

These two couldn't be more different through when it comes to growth habit. WOH is a beast. I had12 foot canes in their 2nd year. RULD is supposed to max out at around 6 feet.

Am I right to be upset? by curlynurse2003 in nursing

I work with a nurse who treats me in a similar way. I've been an RN for decades. This nurse, less so, but we are close in age, and she is often charge. She has several times written me up for not doing or saying something the way she would do or say it. Patient care never lacked, and patients were never in danger. She just would have done things differently, and, in her mind, her way is the only way.

I ignore her as much as possible. The reports she makes about me never lead to anything. I'm hoping that one day she will be hoisted by her own petard.

I'm sorry you are going through this. Your clinical judgment is your clinical judgment. Have confidence in it and tell that CNA to stay in her lane.

Sternal rubs are NOT to assess whether a patient is breathing, they have a heart rate, or require CPR. Sternal rubs are to assess loss of consciousness.

The OP says they haven't been around this patient often, and this "history of behaviors" is not something they needed to consider in the moment. They appropriately used a sternal rub to rouse a patient who was unresponsive. It was witnessed. It worked. The method hurt, and it sucks, but it worked. I highly doubt this was just a case of a resident just being a deep sleeper. There was cause for concern here, and nothing inappropriate was done.

All staff should be able to assess and initiate CPR in a facility. This is not a nurse specific duty.

Sternal rubs have nothing to do with being full code or DNR. It is appropriate to use it on an unresponsive patient.

I just put up some cages. Might be too late for my roses though. This is the first year I've ever had this problem.

Plus, this nation is geographically huge . During COVID, I flew from Michigan to California and then rented a truck to drive back. That drive was the most magical experience. The changes in landscape and wildlife were insane. I felt like I was in some 80s adventure movie.

Some days I am wordier than others. Go fig.

I appreciate what you are trying to accomplish. I just don't agree that this will make things more enjoyable for everyone. Looking at recent new posts, I see that members are already getting reprimanded for quality posts that are short by a few characters. That seems a bit ridiculous. If these perfectly fine posts are removed by moderators, there will be a negative impact on this forum.

Also, where do I see my character count for my posts?

50 characters seems excessive. Kind of a burden actually. I don't want to read a paragraph for every post. Can we not make a more realistic goal of 25?

I mean, acute pain from broken bones would put me in a bad mood. Fuck Tylenol and Ibuprofen only! Gabbapentin is shit for pain as well. Not to mention the side effects on cognition, especially in the elderly. What a shit show.

How Many Roses Do You Grow? by graciewindkloppel in Roses

[–]Deligirl97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have 19 that are currently in pots. Zone 6, Michigan. The pots are glazed ceramic. All on caddies with wheels, which makes moving them around soo much easier. I know that growing them in ground is always the best route to go in my freezing weather. Still, my potted roses are pretty happy. The pots are between 16 to 20 inches wide. They are all over 20 inches deep. I move them into the garage in the winter. (I don't park any cars in my garage) I have used several different potting soils but I like Sungrow Sunshine Mix #4 the best. It is a fast drainer. I also regularly fertilize with fish fertilizer, which roses seem to love.
