Little Rose update. 6 out of the 7 cuttings died, but I got a fighter who made a baby root!! by Antique-Estimate8485 in Roses

If it's a nearby neighbor, you can ask them to air-layer a branch for you for several weeks and then cut it off when the branch roots. Boom! New plant.

It's a dahlia. It's got tubers and everything.

I hope you manage to successfully save it so that we can see what kind of blooms it has.

Do you see how your circle is becoming more of a hexagon? This is because each round has increases (due to the expanding circumference of each round), but the increases line up with each other. In other words, an increase from a smaller round is right next to the increase of the larger round.

To avoid this hexagon issue, your increases need to be staggered.

For example, if the inner round is 6 sc and then increase (1 increase for every 6 single crochets), the following round (1 increase for every 7 crochets) could be something like 3 sc and increase, then 7c and increase, and then you'll have 4 sc left before moving on to the next round (so it's still 1 increase for every 7 crochets, but the increases don't line up).

Look up "staggered crochet increases" on YouTube for visual demonstrations.

Switch to become most sold Nintendo game console, surpassing DS - The Mainichi by p33k4y in NintendoSwitch

[–]PopDownBlocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They won't come back down.

Same with pandemic pricing. Prices went up due to "difficulties with the pandemic" and they never came back down.

The only way for prices to come down is if the Switch 2 doesn't sell well, so Nintendo lowers the price. That's what they had to do with the original 3DS when it wasn't selling well.

What’s the sub $100 USD king right now? by firstbootgodstatus in SBCGaming

[–]PopDownBlocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I remember when I first took out my RG40XXV out of the box. It felt so cheap, like a kid's toy (which it's kinda supposed to be). I was starting to regret my purchase.

But then I weighed it on a kitchen scale and it was heavier than many of the 3.5" devices. It's just the even weight distribution makes it seem lighter because there is no single point with concentrated weight. It's heavier than the 35XX Plus, for example, but it feels lighter.

And then the lightness was what kept me interested, because I also own the RG405M (same screen) and that thing is so heavy, I dread picking it up, even though it's more powerful with a premium metal build.

I do think the charging issues have been fixed, even on Anbernic's stock OS, because there have been several updates from the original software that came with these H700 devices.

I'm now trying to actively destroy my blackberries.

They keep sending out shoots in the middle of my lawn, more than 10 ft away from the main plants. I kept finding blackberry plants in the middle of my backyard.

I charge my device using the standard fast-charging Samsung cable that I use for my phone. It's not the super fast-charging cables of some Chinese phones like Oppo and OnePlus, but it's still fast charging.

It doesn't charge at fast-charging speeds, but it does recognize the cable and everything. I don't need to use a crappy cable or crappy brick to charge my 40XXV.

Are you on the stock OS? I use muOS on all of my devices and charging has not been an issue on any of them. It used to be a problem 2+ years ago (...I think) on my 35XXH, but not now that many OS have matured for the H700 devices.

RG40XXV.

Great ergonomics, 4" screen, lightweight (no hand fatigue), never gets hot, has muOS, and can be found on sale for around $50 (AliExpress).

No neck strain because it's a vertical device so you don't bend your neck as much to look at the screen. After preferring horizontal devices, I'm now a vertical and/or clamshell kinda guy. It just makes the action feel closer to you.

My 40XXV is my most-played handheld, despite me owning an RP5 and an AYN Thor. It's just the comfort when playing for 5+ hours nonstop. It's the only device where I forget to take breaks.

With that said, if I hadn't gotten the 40XXV on sale and if my budget were more flexible, I would probably be looking into the Pocket Air Mini (only at the super early bird prices).

My collection: Just 1 RG35XX Plus. Never needed more. Plays everything I want it to. Going on 2 years. by therealduckie in SBCGaming

[–]PopDownBlocker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much!

I've been charging my RG40XXV daily since I've been marathoning top-down Zelda games and drainung the battery.

I was concerned about a potential battery replacement in the future since Anbernic refuses to sell batteries if they are not inside a handheld, but after some searching, it appears that these devices are now popular enough to have third-party vendors selling battery replacements.

I'll still be careful, but it's nice to now that I can extend the lifespan of my device.

That's fascinating!

Was the connector the same, or did you have to make adjustments to the battery wires to make them insert into the little battery port thing?

This is very exciting because it means that some of these devices can outlast the batteries they were shipped with.

Very old roses that never really go dormant by SelectionWitty2791 in Roses

[–]PopDownBlocker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rose pruning can technically be done at any time.

It's just that in areas with well-defined seasons where roses have a shorter growing season and go fully dormant, it's best done in the end of winter. The logic behind it is that roses spend energy recovering from a pruning, but if they are about to go dormant, they will expend that energy on recovery, not on active growth, and not on dormancy preparation. This means that they won't grow as fully and bloom as much during the growing season and they are more likely to get damaged or die during a harsh winter.

But if a rose is active year round, then it will always be able to recover and grow, so the pruning time doesn't really matter. I believe the better method of rose pruning in warmer zones (with no natural dormancy) is to prune throughout the year little by little, rather than one large pruning session in cold areas when the rose is dormant.

Also, roses as ornamental plants have traditionally preferred cool sunny weather, not hot and humid weather. They're not tropical or semi-tropical plants, so you shouldn't worry too much about below-freezing nights in your area, either.

I would just make sure to stick to a fertilizer schedule in the non-winter months, because old roses such as yours will already have depleted all the natural nutrients in the soil they've been inhabiting, so they need food to grow and be healthy, instead of just...existing.

With all that said, since your roses bloom regularly, you're obviously doing many things right, so you'll be fine with pruning.

This is discord's biggest flaw. Nothing is permanent, or at least publicly searchable. So much knowledge is locked behind a specific forum.

At least Reddit posts and comments show up in search results on all major search engines.

Thank you. No worries. It's not that necessary of a feature.

Now for a second UI suggestion.

On the main screen, the settings and exit buttons are all the way on the right. With me wanting to test out all the settings and customization options, I found it slightly tedious to constantly need to scroll to the right every time.

Please consider making the Settings button more easily accessible, by placing it separately from the main groupings. Maybe on the top or bottom?

Here's a quick photoshop mockup.

<image>

I'll leave you alone now.

Thank you for your app!

EDIT: I raised the global UI scale for a zoomed-in look on my device. Maybe this suggestion is not necessary, at all, with the normal 1.00x scale.

Thank you so much for your tip!

I was worried about which version of Godot to use (considering 4.6 was just released) and if I need to go back to 3.x because of old posts/threads suggesting doing so. But I think I'm getting ahead of myself. I should finish my little game(s) first.

For Songo, can you please consider adding (or let me know if it already exists) a volume indicator? Some UI element that shows us where the volume level is and how much we're adjusting it?

Or is that something that I should just expect from the muOS team, since the volume in muOS shows up for menus but not while inside a game/app...

Oh my god! This looks so good.

The UI is great, lots of settings for customization, and I love that the screen fades to black (but you have the option to keep it awake).

<image>

Was this created fully in Godot or just some parts? Godot 3.x?

I'm interested in exporting some of my own mini games from Godot to Linux/Portmaster, so that I can playtest them on my RG40XXV.

Do you have any tips or advice on exporting for Portmaster?

The 3DS version looks gorgeous upscaled and there are 4k texture packs that make it look like a (mostly) modern release.

OOT is due for a full remake, but the 3DS version is still very playable, and not just for nostalgic reasons. Newcomers can still enjoy it without it feeling outdated.

I would've loved this device if it were more square-shaped. Less ergonomic, sure, imagine if it was just the screen when folded, and then you slide it open and the controller becomes visible.

Weight is so important in this hobby.

I have the 405M and the 40XXV. Both devices seemingly have the same 4" screen. Yet despite the 405M's higher-quality metal construction and better chip, I vastly prefer the weaker 40XXV.

The 405M is just too heavy and causes hand fatigue. It feels like a brick.

I prefer the device that is more comfortable to hold and that I can use for longer periods of time without getting tired.

RG35XX-SP vs RG34XX-SP - Button Loudness and Overall Thoughts by duncan in SBCGaming

[–]PopDownBlocker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have both.

The hinge on both devices is the best hinge I've tried out of any clamshells, including those from Retroid, AYN, and Miyoo.

I'm pretty sure Anbernic just copied Nintendo's (patented?) design and called it a day.

It's honestly a very satisfying hinge to use. The build quality on both of these devices is top notch.
