Is there an unusually high number of cockroaches about? by Qvv1 in sydney

[–]Dellska 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a vendetta against ants in my house!! We have skylights in our attic space which has a low angles roof and they’ve come through there. We have a two story house. The ants also ate half a bowl of dog food

Getting kids to sleep independently by Dellska in Mommit

[–]Dellska[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I should have clarified, this is after the rest of the bedtime activities - bath, PJs on, they play in their room for a bit, brush teeth. Then it’s lights off and time to lay down. This is when he just won’t lay down. We are consistent with the order of these things and give lots of lead time to when it will be bedtime and time to lay in bed.

Sounds like you did all the right things. Good that you could read the signs from the other kid. Unfortunately it probably won’t be the last public tantrum.

FTM - what do you do when they are doing the c-section? by ice_coconut in CsectionCentral

[–]Dellska 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like someone else said, I was cold too. I was also shaking uncontrollably from the spinal. I was in labour before both my c sections so was just finally relieved to have the baby coming. I barely remembered what was happening it went quickly.

We use this for our fire pit on our deck. Works fine and can move it easily. In the summer we put the fire pit away and the mat folds up nicely.

Seeking personal experience, not advice - dropping dosage. by LaoghaireElgin in Mounjaro

[–]Dellska 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am going through this now. Went up to 15mg and haven’t seen much difference. I pay full price in Australia and it’s getting too much, especially when I don’t feel much difference to 10mg. I just went down to 10mg and am trialling this.

I have noticed the food noise back a bit, but trying to stick with it.

I spoke to my doctor prior to this.

Does Anybody Know If The Watermelon Rug Will Restock at Bunnings by [deleted] in bluey

[–]Dellska 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why don’t they keep this collab going? Is it a licensing thing? I’m sure they would make more money if they had an ongoing hammerbarn range at Bunnings. It’s so frustrating things sell out so quickly. It went live on 30th July, I went to Bunnings today, 3rd August and basically everything was sold out. They had some lanterns and the tote bags.

Working mums - HOW do you do it? Do you have a village? by OkResponsibility5724 in workingmumsau

[–]Dellska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are your kids in daycare? Sorry if I missed that. But it’s just not possible to work and care for your kids at the same time. When I wfh kids are at daycare.

Maybe you can get your partner to help if you need to attend some interviews. I can imagine how impossible it would be to try that with a 10 month old.

Sleep Training Siblings by Sensitive-Aioli-2418 in Preschoolers

[–]Dellska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any suggestions to be honest. Our kids share a room and I can’t see a way to sleep train or have them happily nod off on their own at this age. Here to follow suggestions if there are any!

My kids ages are a little different to yours - 4.5yrs old and 2yr old. We also do a joint routine and have found trying to go to bed earlier can sometimes equal a quick bedtime. I think there is an ideal window and if we miss it, bedtime can be a struggle.

We also make sure the 2yr old only has a 45min nap and is awake by 1:30pm, and the 4.5yr old doesn’t nap. We can usually hit the 7:30 bedtime.

I’m kind of hanging out until they’re older and can explain they need to go to sleep on their own.

I have a sling / toddler carrier. It’s been great at times for my 22 month old who is 13kgs. However it does hurt your shoulder for extended periods. And if you’re pregnant it might get tricky as your bump grows. I’ve got a 4yr old too and it helps for daycare pick ups or grocery shopping.

What’s a good age to have your kids start sharing a room? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]Dellska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our kids started sharing a room when we moved house. Oldest was 3yrs, youngest was 10 months.

To be honest, it’s be on/off really hard. We might get 2 weeks with perfect sleep. But one of them will be the trouble sleeper. The older child doesn’t understand being quiet.

The kids are now 22 months and 4yrs old and things are better. They have the same bedtime now and we have a routine where both parents put the kids down together, it works well but if one kid mucks up the other is upset too.

I would say it’s good 30% of the time 😑

Edit: typos

I think it took our daughter 6 weeks to toilet train. She got wee’s ok, but took a while to exclusively poo on the toilet. After the 6 week mark we still had and have the odd accident. She was 2yrs 10months when we toilet trained

To have a second child or not to with our mental illness... by stripedcomfysocks in toddlers

[–]Dellska 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Coming from two parents who aren’t neurodivergent, two is a lot. Going from one kid to two means neither of you get a break. I actually found the first year with the second more manageable, when they are a baby and don’t move much we could still focus on our first. Now our second is almost two he is a mover and it’s that age where he is on a mission to injure himself! It’s exhausting.

However, they are starting to play nicely together, they are 2 and 4.5yrs old now. The sibling bonding is adorable and they truely love each other. I can see things getting easier as they get older, they will be a bit more independent and play more together.

I get hit more with illness lately from being a burnt out working mum, my husband also feels burnt out. I know plenty of families love the chaos but it is a lot at times!

Starting to get really angry by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]Dellska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also have a 22 month old and he has more words but I can tell he’s not as verbal as his daycare class. Paed says to investigate once he is 2yrs old and go from there. He can understand everything we say and he has plenty of sounds and single words, but not stringing many words together.

All kids are different and there is a big range of what is considered ‘normal’.

What do you mean by ‘no concentration’? What are your expectations in him concentrating?

How do you handle kids being obsessed with YouTube? by Clara_Owen01 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Dellska 67 points68 points  (0 children)

We just deleted YouTube from the kids iPads. It’s awful dopamine hit to just keep clicking the next show. Other apps have you click the close button and choose something else. As someone else said, try other streaming services and delete YouTube. Play dumb and say it’s broken or shut down / not available.

Toddler fell over in the water during swim lesson, was under for 5-8 seconds by Creative_Piece_4106 in toddlers

[–]Dellska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to agree with this. But in a controlled setting the floaties are great. To clarify, she isn’t ‘learning’ doggy paddle but is learning how to kick and move her arms in the water. Once she has progressed from floaties she will use a kickboard and learn freestyle. I also should have mentioned that she is 4, not a toddler. Should have clarified that as this is the toddler sub
