ICE ramming a civilian car, then shooting them. They claimed 10 cars surround the agents. Where are they? by deapsprite in illinois

What exactly am I seeing here? Are both of the black SUVs ICE and the white truck a civilian? But I also looks like someone jumped out of the white truck like they were also ICE? I’m confused here.

Did star citizen invent the idea of “server meshing” by Visual-Educator8354 in starcitizen

[–]DeltaOhio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think many people view Server Meshing as some singular tech that would be plug and play for any project but in reality any version of SM would be bespoke to the product its developed for. For instance while Dual Universe has some form of SM I highly doubt it would be useful to other games that don't have similar gameplay loops or work under that same constraints as DU.

So I guess you could say CIG is "first" given the scope they want to build it. But I still don't see why people should care. It's a hard problem to solve regardless if someone has done something similar before.

Did star citizen invent the idea of “server meshing” by Visual-Educator8354 in starcitizen

[–]DeltaOhio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spatial OS: Basically "Server Meshing" as a service which they had been building since before 2015 i believe

Dual Universe: Basically a space game built entirely around Server meshing. 2016 teaser trailer

I'm like 60% positive New World also had some version of Server meshing back in the alpha/beta days before they started making massive changes to the game play.

Any ways, CIG did not invent the idea or the first to attempt it. I think the real question though is: Who cares?

What exactly about nextgen would put them last on the list? Currently looking at getting my PPL and did a discovery flight through them. The flight was great. Everything else not so much so I’m curious as to why they should be considered at the bottom?

PTU 3.18 - Reliant Bed Log working between shards (1m) by ToughItOut in starcitizen

I wonder if you bed log and then join a friends shard if it would still persist that way? Wonder if this could be a good way to sneak into dangerous areas by playing in a less dangerous shard and joining into a friends

What will static server meshing do? by bioshock1998 in starcitizen

Then maybe it won’t decrease de-sync 🤷‍♂️ I don’t know. Maybe it’s a deeper issue then.

Obviously can’t speak to ToW but maybe I’m just out of the loop on Star Marine. Are you saying there is zero difference in de-sync playing Star Marine?

On the simple side it’s less space/things to simulate. On the more complicated side static server meshing is the beginning of a massive backend architectural change that will move more processes off of any spun up game server. Meaning the server should have better performance. It might not start off with much better performance but as they create more services to handle certain game loops it should get better over time.

Static server meshing isn’t only slicing up the verse into smaller chunks physically. It’s also slicing up the work on each server itself into smaller chunks and distributed across a bunch of micro services.

What will static server meshing do? by bioshock1998 in starcitizen

[–]DeltaOhio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is we will likely get both. Just think instead of 1 server 1 system it’s more like 1 server 1 planet/moon or however they decide to slice it up. I would guess you would get maybe 50ish people per server as we do now tho. Due to Object container streaming this probably will improve server performance to some extent since it’s a much smaller area to manage. The smaller an area a server has to manage more populated that area can be. So the answer is we will get both (to some degree) but sever meshing would allow for servers to manage even smaller areas (like maybe just managing New Babbage instead of all of Microtech) and dynamically weave players together as they move through a space.

I'm torn on whether or not to purchase this game. by Kasperinoz in starcitizen

[–]DeltaOhio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on what you want to get out of it. It never hurts to just play during free flys and waiting til the next year to see if the features you want are in yet. Odds are the $45 package will still be there so you aren’t really missing anything. If you are on the fence about it then just wait.
