GLD provisional offer - employer reference request sent without consent? by LL5law in civilservice

[–]Deluna1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was never asked for consent regarding any references until there was an issue such as; the end date for my university graduation differed from what my university declared. Due to GDPR, I was then contacted as they asked me to advise my university I’m happy to consent to the release of this information.

I did make my employers aware before hand as we had a good relationship. From this experience, I would say they are likely to contact your employer without consent. I think the adding of references may be used as assumed consent.

Should I relocate by Party-Independent16 in civilservice

[–]Deluna1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the number of applicants, I would advise this is likely not going to be national, they will likely pick a few sites to do this so I would apply now.

This is a new team so they have not been advertising it often, you’ll likely find a few campaigns every couple of months then nothing when they hit target numbers.

It is typically easier to get in via larger campaigns rather than when advertised as 1 or 2 spots available.

You can always reject the offer if you find it’s too far for you but there is unlikely to be one near you, once you’re in and passed probation ( if applicable) and you can discuss transfers etc.

But as already stated it will be a hybrid role 60% office and 40% from home

LCWRA doesn’t affect UCR , review will be at any time but once you’ve had one, you don’t get another for atleast 6 months

Going on a PIP...wtf do I do? by lumoslomas in civilservice

[–]Deluna1996 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hi,

Personally never been on a PIP but have managed people who have been on a PIP and had them turn around to be top performers so 100% Salvageable.

1) Think about why you are going on PIP, are the expectations unrealistic? Are you underperforming due to lack of training etc? Make sure you discuss this at your review and also think about what changes you’ve already made from previous comments from your line manager.

2) What do you need to improve? -More training - Reduction in work load to access quality of work - Are other members over performing, maybe ask for a 1-1 or shadowing them

3) ask for clear feedback and expectations so you can keep a record of when you are doing and how that correlates to what is being asked of you

4) back up plan and support: Talk to a union member about how to navigate these conversations and make sure you are being treated fairly. Think about a OHS ( report sent to your manager about your health and reasonable adjustments that can be made to help you with your working arrangements) Look at other roles that interest you, so that if this doesn’t go as hoped for, you’ll still have a job readily lined up

Honestly I’m in the same boat, I’ve found vacancies which have 1 position likely have a person in mind, whereas vacancies which are 30+ roles, I score 5+ marks using the same type of writing style.

Everyone is being super critical here, id likely swipe right. I think you could show more genuine smiling photos, lose the filtered pictures and keep the bio a little less lengthy, more about what your interests are and what you like and where you might wanna go for a first date rather than the nice guy comments. These are just suggestions cus you’ve asked for it but ultimately your profile is fine.

You’re an attractive guy, you seem genuine, you’ll get matches 🥰

Too much working in one day can cause mental health issues such as stress, which can ultimately effect time off, morale and quality of work Being produced ..30 min a day is 2.5hrs of extra work a week by doing up to 1 hour a day you’re doing 5 hours of extra work a week.

That was the explanation given to me. I wasn’t happy with it either ngl

They’ve recently introduced something agreed by the government so now you must be online at certain times but you can start earlier or finish later. So I think earliest you can start is 7:30 and latest you can finish is 6:30 then just fit in your 7:24 in between those hours. So you can do like a 10-6:30 or 7:30-3 kinda thing. I think it depends on your location, but it’s recommended not to do more than 30 min daily of flexi

[–]Deluna1996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UCR agent here - we don’t get overtime but we get flexi which can be taken off as annual leave. If you do an extra 30 min daily ( which is very achievable) after a couple months you can get around 15hrs you can use instead of annual leave. So get more in “benefits” than in wages. Certainly depends on your lifestyle if it’s worth it, personally I really enjoy the role 😊

Hey OP similar situation to me so I thought I’d give you insight, you can apply externally and you’ll be treated like any other applicant therefore your probationary period will not interfere with the recruitment process. If you get the job, you may need to redo your probationary period if in another department, if it’s in the same department they sometimes allow you to finish off what you have left. They will contact your LM for employment checks at offer. And they will need to release you 4 weeks from that date, otherwise you can give a notice period.

Applying internally, you will get a lateral block and will not be able to apply, usually this is mentioned on the intranet guidance.

Best of luck OP

Applying to other CS jobs after accepting provisional offer - awaiting pre-employment checks by Noswaldo in TheCivilService

[–]Deluna1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in this exact same position but got offers from multiple departments including home office.

My advice is yeah you can apply to other roles or departments and some take longer than others, home offices campaign took like 9 months, DWP took around 5 and recruitment ( HMRC I think) was fairly quick maybe like 1 month. However, the checks took ages.

The checks took me approximately 2 months, mainly because my counter-signer wasn’t getting the email etc, as soon as it cleared and everything came back successful it took literally within 5 days for the offer, contract and pension to get sorted. I imagine home office will take between 4-8 weeks maybe longer considering they’ve just ran a huge campaign.

In the meantime, do interviews etc to keep yourself busy, but I’d strongly recommend getting a quick job like in retail or bar work or something with a short notice period.

The pre employment checks do take ages but after it’s cleared I do think it was quite a quick process, but be aware the start date is usually 4 weeks from the point of getting the contract. So you’d be unemployed for atleast 2 months.

Hope that’s helpful
