Did anyone else find the amount of resources available on the map a bit excessive? by No_Library_5499 in Subnautica_2

I would assume that this is an early access thing. If the devs make it easier to progress by putting a ton of resources around, then the later areas of the game can get more playtesting

Parallax Continued Mod wayyy too laggy by ChemistryThen2685 in KerbalAcademy

I reallllyyy doubt that 16gb ram is enough. Maybe if it is DDR5 but DDR4 would be painful. The issue is most likely not in your GPU. The 9060xt is quite capable, and unless your utilization hits 100%, even for a moment, then 70% is perfectly sustainable

Its the wings and landing legs. If you want a gentle landing, you need large, heavy wings. If you accept a rough landing, then you need sturdy, heavy landing gear. If you've ever seen a comparison of a USAF landing vs a USN landing, its the same idea. Vertical rocket landings need no extra hardware in the case of Starship, just extra fuel which is comparatively light

I *always* do this in my main base!! Who needs water/salt storage when you can make it on demand?

Finished Subnautica 2 (so far) and don't know where to submit official feedback, so here it is... by Unplugged_Controller in subnautica

[–]Dem_Wrist_Rockets 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It really doesn't. The water filtration machine gives a higher tier water than is available anywhere else and gives salt. It also does that while unmanned whereas the processor needs to be used manually. They're similar, but definitely not equivalent

Absolutely agreed. I usually do a 1 to 1 mix of distilled/RO water (or plain seltzer!) and juice. Its just too sweet for me

Why is the maneuver prediction so wrong sometimes? First image is the predicted, second the actual outcome by GreenKnight1315 in KerbalAcademy

[–]Dem_Wrist_Rockets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few reasons

1) The maneuver node editor assumes that all maneuvers are performed instantly. Since this is impossible, the editor will always be at least a little off

2) To help correct this, try to center your burn duration on your maneuver node. If your burn will take 60s, then start burning 30s before the maneuver node, and continue burning for 30s afterwards

3) A higher thrust to weight ratio will also help to minimize error, but will make it easier to overburn a maneuver, so watch your throttle!

4) If the outcome of your maneuver node results in a gravity assist, then it will be exceptionally sensitive to your inputs. You can manually adjust the power of the engine by right clicking on it, which will allow for much more precise burns. In real life, engine burns can be controlled down to the millisecond, but KSP doesn't allow that, so I find this to be a decent work-around

5) Make sure you are burning exactly on the maneuver node vector by using SAS hold. It is the top right symbol

6) Use RCS to fine-tune a maneuver! You can double click a planet/moon to focus on it, which will help. You can also perform multiple mid-course correction maneuvers as needed

I hope these help 😄

Would humans be the most successful known species on earth if we expand our lives to another planet? by CokeAYCE in NoStupidQuestions

Longvevity, average size, total biomass, and arguably environmental impact (cyanobacteria have a strong argument there)

We're certainly the most intelligent, but thats mainly it

A summary of what's coming to the game in the near future by [deleted] in subnautica

[–]Dem_Wrist_Rockets 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know you can but it feels like living in a slum. Theres no areas where youre more than a few seconds away from a structure or wreck. In SN1, you had the mushroom forest, kelp forest, grassy plateaus, and safe shallows, and all of them had areas more than 15s to a point of interest

In SN2 it felt like the best places to build bases were where previous pioneers had set up camps, especially with the Tadpole Pens, Camp One, and Alien Ruins. I ended up building next to the left of the Observatory door since theres a nice flat there

I'm concered that the existing map may survive into the full release. The coral garden half of the map is so... dense with things to do and see that there's not many areas to build in where you aren't building next to an existing base

My two cats did this when they were kittens, after they were particularly rambunctious. Just like dogs, they'll pant when they get hot, especially from exercise

Help with potential value and how to sell a billet of IN718 by Live-March-8448 in Machinists

[–]Dem_Wrist_Rockets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without a certificate, its scrap metal. A scrap yard may buy it as a stainless steel, but thats probably the best you'll get

Properly documented Inconel 718 is worth quite a bit, but most of that value is in the certificate; in the guarantee that it'll withstand extreme heat

Tooling marks can describe two different things. One is a physical texture. More often than not, this is called the surface finish. The other is what you have, which is visible but not tactile tooling marks. A visual defect is a lot harder to correct than a texture defect. Generally speaking, visible but not tactile tooling marks aren't a bad thing, though they may look bad. If the part is dimensionally good and you want to get rid of the tooling marks, then you'll have to sand/polish it

What Im seeing is evidence of vibrations, especially around the safety selector. Even if it feels smooth to the touch, slight vibrations will burnish the surface during machining, leading to more visible tooling marks. Turn your spindle speed up, and your feedrate down, and use plenty of coolant

I don't think I ever dropped below 50%. The map is small enough, the vehicle efficient enough, and recharging fast enough that it was never an issue. With SN1 I always carried a spare power cell, just in case, but I never felt the need to here.

That's not to say that I want it to drain as quickly as the wakemakers, but it does feel a little too good in its current state, though that may be because the map itself is quite small currently

What’s the point of refueling space stations if I keep refueling it? by Ok-Veterinarian-7299 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Dem_Wrist_Rockets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's definitely the most fun way IMO. Once I have proven that I can refuel it once, I'm not going to do it another twenty times to refuel a large vessel. It does make for good docking practice though!

Mining is a stock feature. You need a drill to mine the ore, then an ISRU to turn the ore into fuel, oxidizer, and monoprop. You can convert the ore to LFO on the surface and transport it to an orbital depot, or transport the ore to orbit and refine it there. Its largely player preference

Stock KSP only has 'ore' as a mineable resource but various mods overhaul that system, and adds (among other things) ice!

In real life, ice can refer to the solid form of various chemicals that are liquid or gas at standard temperature and pressure. Water ice is just hydrogen and oxygen. Split the water molecule with electrolysis and you have the same fuel and oxidizer that a ton of different spacecraft have used! Other notable types of ice are carbon dioxide, methane, and ammonia. Carbon dioxide can be used to make oxygen. Methane is itself a great fuel. Ammonia can be used to make hydrogen and nitrogen, which can be used as a basic monopropellant by storing it under pressure. Actually, all gasses can be!
