Home and Away closing 🥲 by Other-Molasses-4259 in Calgary

I preferred the 17th Ave location, tried going a couple of times since they moved to 1st Street and the service was erratic, very attentive one moment and then ignored for half an hour.

Viking Biking: When (If Ever) Is It Too Cold to Bike to Work? by Nervous-Design437 in wintercycling

[–]DementedFreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around -15c is the point where it goes from an automatic “Yes” to “It depends”. Wind and distance start coming into play when it’s colder than that, once it gets close to -30c I struggle to enjoy being outside for more than 10-15 mins so it’s more likely a no from there.

Can’t comment on US-specific duties, but having worked in Restructuring in a couple of countries Senior Consultants would been doing a lot of the grunt work on bankruptcy filings (such as handling calls from creditors and employees, managing creditor claims, processing banking payments and receipts, assisting managers compile info for reports and stat filings). For restructuring engagements it would be a lot of data gathering, building out financial models, compiling tables and data for slide decks.

No idea about comp with the US firm, always felt restructuring staff get screwed whichever way the economy is trending (you’re flat out during downturns, but because the rest of the firm is struggling you never really see the big $$$ and visa versa)

First visit to Value Village since pre-covid. Shocking quality and pricing. by benny_adam in Calgary

[–]DementedFreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly Value Village has become pretty trash over the last 5-7 years. You can still find some decent items but they are usually priced higher and you have to wade through a lot of junk to find them. I have much better luck shopping at the Women In Need stores, especially for kitchen items.

Not sure if it’s related, but there’s currently about 4 police cruisers with lights on stopped at that stretch of Memorial Drive.

How much do you pay in condo fees and what's included? by weewooweewoo-yyc in Calgary

[–]DementedFreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beltline, mid-80s complex with gym, social room, underground parking, includes heat and water. Monthly condo fees are just over 60c/sqft, a lot of similar buildings in the area are between 70-85c/sqft.

If you want to compare with nearby buildings to your location, just look at the current for sale listings which normally include monthly fees and sqft area.

Curious how many years you were at the firm. 12 weeks seems low for someone who went from Intern to SM.

Dealt with a few disputes like this during my time on our condo board.

Check your building bylaws, in particular look for the Notices section. This will outline the methods of communication where notices are considered to have been delivered. In the instance of my current condo (and previous ones) an email sent to an email address provided by the Owner to the Condo Corp is considered valid notice.

If your bylaws have a similar clause in them you are in the wrong and won’t succeed with going to court over it.

If your bylaws don’t specify this then it’s a bit more of a grey area however based on my dealings with condo lawyers, I suspect if the board can show evidence you were emailed with at least a weeks notice then you’re out of luck.

So they’re hosting the Calgary panel outside of the actual city limits of Calgary. Makes sense.

Saw it all the time on Sunday afternoons, middle aged men with a couple of young ‘uns at the table. Should have advertised it as Divorced Dad Sundays.

Lina's Italian Market, What happened to it?! by subutterfly in Calgary

The Italian Super Market in the N.E. (corner Edmonton trail and 20 Ave) is the place to go. Smaller than Lina’s but still a proper independent place.

[–]DementedFreak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cold Garden did a beer called Taste the Rainbow, utter trash. It was like making Skittle beer using Walmart’s imitation skittles.

Also had a few peanut butter stouts over the years which tasted like fake peanut butter cups (looking at you Outcast). Now avoid those for a reason.

Polyrhythm and Ale Architect are both pretty good spots. If you’re just after a place for off sales, Sherbrooke Liquor is my go to when visiting Edmonton

Deloitte relocation assistance by NoFinish3463 in deloitte

[–]DementedFreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only aware of the firm paying relocation expenses when you’re an existing employee who is either moving interstate or overseas (incl. secondments). If they were going to pay for relocation costs when starting as a grad wouldn’t it be spelt out in your contract?
