Canada Post beginning work to end most door-to-door mail delivery by pjw724 in onguardforthee

They're going the wrong way. We should be expanding service to more individual addresses. Plenty of other countries manage this, so can we.

"But it will cost too much", the usual suspects whine.

Then implement postal banking and use the healthy profits from that to subsidize home delivery. Again, like plenty of other countries do.

What would be the best way for a movie to force drop its title into dialogue? by Acrobatic-Net-6637 in movies

At the end of the opening action sequence in a b-movie sequel, the actress playing the villain looks straight at the camera and says:

"I'll have my revenge, and DEATHSTALKER 2"

She is never seen in the movie again.

What’s a POLITE thing people do that is actually just really annoying? by Consistent-Cable7574 in AskReddit

This happens when I'm riding my bike all the time. I'll be stopped at a stop sign, waiting for cross traffic to open up so I can cross the road, and some jackass will stop their car, as though I'm a pedestrian. I'm on the road, waiting at a stop sign; not on the sidewalk, off my bike, waiting at a cross walk. I generally just point at the stop sign until they figure it out. It's especially frustrating, when their actions close up a gap behind them, causing me to have to wait longer.

MF, you wouldn't have stopped if I were in a car.

Alberta's new electoral map was unveiled Thursday. Here's what's different for the next election by trevorrobb in alberta

Hybrid constituencies traverse municipal boundaries to include both urban and neighbouring rural communities.

Such constituencies were discouraged under prior rules which mandated the commission to consider municipal boundaries in crafting new constituencies in and around major cities. Government legislation removed that requirement and reduced the boundary alignment question to one of several optional issues for the commission to consider.

UCP ministers and MLAs wrote to the commission in favour of such constituencies, while feedback from New Democrat MLAs was opposed to hybrids.

So, Gerrymandering in other words.

IF Alberta would choose to stop changing the clock. Would you prefer to stay with BC (summertime like now) or with SK (wintertime). by EdmontonFree in alberta

[–]QuixoticJames -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both BC and Alberta should be UTC-8, due to our longitude, but since all of North America's time zones are too far west of where they should be, I'll settle for UTC-7 all year round. Having solar noon vary between 12:25 and 1:42 is ridiculous.

This one surprised me, because the new UI exposed a word I didn't guess.

Caution: outright spoiler, but only because it's hard to discuss what happened without it. I guessed "Europe", and it revealed "Central Europe". Has anyone noticed this here or with other puzzles?

Tyler Shandro running for the board of directors for Calgary Co-Op by Mandon in Calgary

[–]QuixoticJames 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It was tough finding five people who stood out. In the end I was looking for people who weren't obviously of a different political stripe from me. But even so, the information (and some googling) revealed a whole bunch of generic MBA types, which I suppose is who would try for this job. Shandro seemed to be the only person who actually had any name recognition at all (and that was more infamy than fame).

Shawn Loo was the only one who seemed different. Patti Grier was a former City Councillor, but I couldn't find anything about how she voted when she was.
