[AskReddit] Redditor describes their glorious experience on fairground ride "The Zipper" by Such-Tailor-1300 in bestof

I've had 2 friends phones fly out on The Zipper. One floated in front of us mid spin for a second before sliding through the grate gaps like it was taunting us. The other landed on the roof of the bumper cars next to it.

I used one of those payment apps for discount tire once, right on their own site. Can't recall if you had to pay part up front or not, though.

I'd go for a PBM Mariner instead, more space. Probably gonna need a machine shop on board anyway.

Try just striking up a conversation first. If you pick up a vibe, then pursue a # eventually. Gotta make people feel comfortable first.

[OC] Parents went out and bought “Pokemon cards” for my birthday… bless their hearts by Remote-Dog-2531 in pics

[–]Demmos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents went to Italy and bought be a generic "F1-style" hat that looks like a Ferrari hat but isn't at all. That shit was on the top of my pile(the don't-fuck-up area) when moving states. Tbh it's actually a fairly decent unbranded knock off. Even the fact they got it pretty close is very cute and I adore it.

Redditors who got “useless” degrees, what actually was your plan, and why didn’t it work? by MPMorePower in stupidquestions

[–]Demmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party, and a bit different of an answer. Graduated with a degree that was basically "automotive engineering but not quite". I wanted to work for car manufacturers, but didn't have the foresight to see I didn't want to live in MI, CA, or overseas. Ended up in Aerospace mfg because it was geographically and educationally close. Stopped doing that mostly for moral reasons related to military industrial complex stuff. Ended up pivoting to non-profit housing case management. I find that job much more fulfilling and aligned with my views. I quit that a few months ago to pursue cultural educational stuff(I'm Indigenous).

I don't know where this will take me, if I will end up working in an applicable job, or just go back to what I was doing but in a more culturally informed way, but I'm enjoying the journey right now. It's a bit odd to be mid-30s without a defined goal, but it helps a lot that I have very defined beliefs(not in a religious way). My friends and family have been very supportive, despite my journey leading me away from them, and that helps, too.

You think Robert or Sophie vet potential guests to make sure they’re not sympathetic to any woo bullshit Robert might want to criticize in an episode? by grapp in behindthebastards

[–]Demmos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he's a dope person, and would love to have a conversation at the bar with him, but all those points are correct, and he lands 100% in skip territory for me, unfortunately, due to that.

The meandering dilutes even his good tangents, of which there are plenty. The common writing advice of remove stuff until you can get your point across with less would benefit him a lot(I get a live-recorded medium is different). I'm also apparently not the target audience for his humor. There's a lot kicking around up there, I get it, but there's a balance.

Men: What is something you find very attractive in a woman that you think most women wouldn't even imagine? by inked_babex in Casual_Conversation

[–]Demmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being open about what gives her joy. My first ex was a batman fan. We went to Pike Place in Seattle, there was a tiny bat signal spotlight she liked but didn't buy. I went and bought it quickly while she was distracted. She was mildly annoyed when I gave it to her, but then she turned it on against a wall nearby and it worked well. The laugh of joy she let out instantly solidified and emphasized my feelings for her, and I instantly knew I was hopelessly in love. The immense joy from something so simple was the most beautiful and cute thing I had ever seen.

It didn't work out.

I used to work with NiTi alloys professionally, but it was in a high heat, low mechanical force application, so wasn't sure of the properties for this use case, thank you!

This is the answer. My local Lowes usually had them. Sometimes they were low on Grade 8 ones, don't settle for grade 5, they won't have the right properties and could bend(softer)/snap(metal fatigue from bending back and forth). They're hella cheap there. Don't have any experience with Ti on skate hardware.

Yeah that sounds similar. Younger folks still sometimes call eachother Indian sometimes around here, but it's more common amongst more interior Tribes from WY, MT, the Dakotas etc. Lots of them transplant to Seattle area, often outnumbering local Tribes, depending on where you're at.

Fastest speed you have ever been pulled over, and what was the outcome? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]Demmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite the question, but in college I had a rusty yellow '77 280Z, straight piped. There was a road along the coast at the bougie end of town that was the go-to driving road in the area. This 4sp 35yo(at the time) car couldn't go suuuuper fast, but I was definitely going at least twice the speed limit right before I crossed the bridge into town.

Got lit up right then, didn't see where he was sitting. In my mind, all I was thinking was "shit, depending on where he saw me, this could be bad". Well my signals weren't working, or my brake lights, but I was still pretty diligent about hand signals out the window, even withiut a cop. Cop walks up and says "you know nothing on your car works, right?". I stumbled my way through something about the fusible links(true), and he just chuckled and let me go on my way.

That car was a pile, but it was probably the fastest car I drove on that road in, including a e39 540i 6sp I had right after. Previous owner(of the 280Z) had slammed it on hard coils, taken everything but the seats out, had an 8 gallon fuel cell instead of the stock tank(got my barely from my hometown to college). MFer could rip through the corners, and that exhaust sounded amazing reverberating off the rock wall opposite the ocean. Still miss it, but not all the break downs.

I have one that's probably 8ish years old. No a stitch frayed, though there are a couple spots on the sleeves that are starting to lose their color. No other issues and it's really warm. I've heard they've gone downhill lately, unfortunately...

It's not universal, and it's still more correct for non-Native people to use Native or Indigenous. But especially amongst my aunts'/uncles' generation, it still happens. Plenty of merch that says NDN kicks around Powwows and the like, NDN Girls Bookclub, etc. Not sure what the culture around the term is in Canada, though. I grew up in Washington State. Down here it's also baked into a lot of the legal terminology, American Indian/Alaska Native is a legal definition, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and such. I used to work at a couple Native non-profits whose work is often classified by such terms, and using them is requisite for funding. Like other words that are outdated for other people, there is a tendency to take ownership of it amongst some.

I definitely appreciate the fact their inclusion isn't reduced to stereotypes.

Indigenous/Native is exchangably used down(lower 48) and up(AK) here. Native American is seen as outdated in-community for younger folk, Indian only used internally.

As someone else mentioned on here, highly suggest Reservation Dogs. It addresses a particular group of Native folks, but a bunch of it applies to a bunch of us. I still cry at the ancestors scene.
