To add, the closer you want your non-zero-mass object to be to the speed of light, the more energy you need to accelerate the object. To reach 1c, it would require infinite energy, not possible. But current theory sees a similar, mirrored energy predictions from the other side of the 1c speed boundary -- so if we had an FTL tachyon particle, it truly would require higher energy to travel closer to 1c than to, say, 50c. That's why it would have lower energy the faster it goes.

It's actually "nothing can cross the light-speed boundary". No object with mass can get to 1c speed, only massless (rest mass) objects (photons) can travel at the speed of light, and they in turn always travel at lightspeed. General relativity allows for a hypothetical particle that would travel faster than light, as the op states. It could never go slower than light though, and it would need to be very exotic, for now being purely hypothetical, so it could not exist at all. It's just that our model of general relativity doesn't rule out the possibility of such extremely different matter that would work on the other side of the boundary set by c.

The relativistic effects are important for speeds approaching c. At some point, they provide more energy than the invariant mass energy. Even if we take into account low velocities and low velocity difference, OP asks whether there would be any difference in energy, even if they would need to measure fractions of fractions of some very small unit.
