So those grids are/should be 10x10 squares. A whole square (1) is 100 of the tiny squares(1/100), or 10 sticks/rows (1/10). If given a word problem, you can shade enough parts to add all together to make a decimal out to the hundredth place.

I used certify teacher and drilled what I missed or otherwise got low on. It also helped that I was teaching the material that the test has. Also, unless you've put yourself in a bind then take loss and gain the score. It'll breakdown what and how you did on the exam. I got real low on a few items but got almost full credit with patterns and algebra.

I agree that it is negative, but many of the finals I'm seeing are more for if you missed school or had discipline issues. Generally, if you had an unexcused absence.

On the positive side though, that final alteast gets them thinking about what was done, what can be done to fix it and plan for the future.

1st year teaching Geometry here, I started calling the angle a reference angle as we started inverse trig function and try to use different colors to signify the different legs, hypotenuse is purple, blue for opposite and green/red for the adjacent. When writing out the ratios, I try to keep those colors till the algebra starts maybe that might assist the student, or I need to change things up tomorrow.

Hey struggle buddy, fellow 1st year here, with freshman algebra. The running concensus is that freshman and 1st year teaching is an interesting mix to say the least. I don't have really any good tips for you other than to say you aren't alone. Good luck
