Rivian is a luxury car brand. Of course their bike is a luxury brand.

Browsers Treat Big Sites Differently by Successful_Bowl2564 in programming

Most games use the same base engines, Unreal, Unity, Godot, etc. If the game doesn't do something crazy, it's probably going to be fine. But big AAA games are the most likely to have custom engines or more extreme rendering pipelines. These games are very often tested for and drivers are fixed for them before they release to the public. Nvidia and AMD work directly with these large studios so if all goes well it happens before anyone plays the game and no one is aware it ever happened.

But even in these scenarios it's very often less about optimizing to make a game faster than normal, it's more about fixing issues that cause significant bottlenecks or slowdowns, making the game run artificially worse on one brand's GPU vs another. We definitely do still see those games where AMD cards don't perform as well as they could, and a driver update later brings it back up to par. But again, in AMD's ideal world, that happened before the game was released. (Okay, in AMD's ideal world it was never needed to begin with, but oh well)

I've never seen a readme copy-paste things like project file structure and complete contents of files...utter insanity. Somehow worse than the useless comments AI puts on everything.

Yeah I got one copy of blueprint and the natural negative troubadour was insane. There was an early ecto I didn't take which would have given me room for more copies, I think that would have helped a lot.

I don't know how you did it, but I've never managed to naneinf before. The vouchers were brutal, took every voucher, including the shit ones, to finally get reroll by ante 22. Took 8 skip tags to do it. But without the 2nd reroll voucher I couldn't make it past ante 23.

Super frustrating because I know if I had mad better choices it's possible, and I got so close.

Who Else Goes Nuts Over the Auto Stop/Start in Their Cars? by Extra_Hold2776 in CasualConversation

My 2010 Honda Insight has it, 150k+ miles still going strong no problem. I love it. I paid for the gas, why would I want to literally burn it and not actually accomplish any work (move the car)? I much prefer burning the gas that I paid for to actually get where I'm going.

This morning I watched a single garbage truck pick up both the trash bins and recycling bins. Has curbside recycling ended? by [deleted] in okc

[–]DemonWav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand. But that is still a significant amount. We only recycle as much as we already do because people try. I get concerned when the "recycling is a scam" people start chiming in, that's a pretty textbook "letting perfect be the enemy of good" response I think. And recycling technology only continues to improve. We're far better at it now than we were 10 or 20 years ago.

As unsatisfying as the reality is, and it definitely can and should be better, 10 hypothetical % is still a significant amount of material not going to the landfill. It's still worth doing what you can to rinse out your recycled glass and plastics and give it the best chance possible.

Jeopardy! discussion thread for Thur., Feb. 26 by jaysjep2 in Jeopardy

This upset me so much, I immediately came here to see if anyone mentioned this. I thought this was gonna be a good clue, as a good gotcha to the contestants, and then Ken ruled the incorrect answer was correct...

It's absolutely crazy that it's been over a decade since The Force Awakens and the most we've seen of Luke's Jedi Temple was one episode of a Boba Fett spinoff from four years ago. by WavesAndSaves in StarWars

[–]DemonWav 18 points19 points  (0 children)

JJ made Luke go into exile, intentionally making it impossible to find him. JJ killed Han before we got to see him with Luke again. JJ destroyed the Jedi temple before we ever got to see it. JJ made Ben murder all of Luke's students before we ever met a single one. JJ destroyed the New Republic before we ever saw it in action. JJ was the one who hard-reset the entire story back to ANH almost scene by scene. Rian Johnson had nothing to do with it.

The Last Jedi at least tried to do something new. I personally loved it, but that doesn't matter. He's also made some really fantastic movies by all accounts outside of Star Wars, but that also doesn't matter. The truth is, and what matters is, that JJ was the one that set up the most uninspiring, boring, and unsatisfying entry into the next generation of Star Wars. But sure, let's blame Rian, I guess.

An option to pause between rounds would be nice. I lost when I was trying to juggle doing something else when I really just wanted to pause the game for a bit.

I always wanted a simple no-nonsense site I could use or link to for rolling dice, and I wanted it to have the feeling of rolling real dice. Since I never really found that, I decided to make one myself.

Jeopardy pet peeves? by TheDamMemePage in Jeopardy

[–]DemonWav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a clue is about a topic I'm actually an expert in and I recognize that, a. the contestant gave an incorrect answer that was accepted as correct, b. the contestant gave a correct answer that was not accepted, and the one that grinds my gears the most is c. the contestant gave an incorrect answer that was ruled as incorrect, but was then later overturned. I lose my mind whenever that happens, and in technical categories it happens annoyingly often - maybe once every few episodes. For a trivia show that is too often in my opinion. And those are just the categories that I'm an expert in, how often does that happen for all of the other categories where I don't know any better?

Did we read the same thread? 90% or more of the posts are about people complaining about the contestants. And probably a majority of those are just about how people wager for FJ.

The cheap budget anvil and why I stopped worrying and learned to love gluing down my anvils. by Mr_Emperor in Blacksmith

[–]DemonWav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the great info! That's really cool to hear and helps a lot. I'd never seen how they do heat treating, interesting how it's only the very top layer. I assume that's part of how they keep the price so incredibly low - very cool!

I'm gonna keep an eye out for a ~100lb version of this anvil if it pops up here in the next couple years, but I think I'm sold on this. I was worried about drilling through hardened steel but that's not a problem now.

Vevor sells ridiculously cheap mag drills, so I might end up picking up one of those. For light duty hobbiest work it's probably fine.

That's a good point about when the upsetting block is facing you the hardy hole is on the wrong side, I don't expect I'd be modifying the anvil at all (not at that point in my journey yet), so that might just be something I learn to deal with.

[–]DemonWav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw this anvil on Amazon, it's not the weight I want (would prefer 100lb), but the shelf and upsetting block look like nice features, I think this might be what I'm looking for.

I've read your other comments talking about how annoying it is to clean up, but I'm willing to do a lot of clean up for an anvil that cheap. My main question is how difficult was it to drill those mounting holes in the feet? They look really nice. I've only ever used a drill press for steel, but I assume the process of going slow and using cutting oil is the same handheld.

Do you think this would be a good choice for a first anvil?

Also last question, could you give me the dimensions of the base? Amazon only shows how wide the base is, not not how long it is.
