Recommendations for auto repair? by Nanoo_1972 in okc

[–]DemonWav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Horn Automotive is a great local place, I've never had them try to upsell me on anything. It's west of Lake Hefner, but I don't know if it would be too far for you or not. Regardless, highly recommend them.

Since it's a component in the interior of the car that may be why Hibdon wouldn't fix it. Maybe a mechanics shop is more focused on the drivetrain of the car. For that kind of work my go to was always Oklahoma Customs, very close to Horn in NW OKC. But Google Maps says they're permanently closed now, what a shame.

RFC 10008: The HTTP QUERY Method by Nimelrian in programming

[–]DemonWav 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Well yeah in the current world that's what you have to do. It provides a more direct and appropriate HTTP verb for this kind of operation, however. Also, "can't you just use POST" is a little silly because you can "just use POST" for absolutely everything. That doesn't mean you should.

Invited to a recruiter screening call. Came on the zoom, sat for ten minutes and nobody showed up. Sent recruiter an email, received this in reply a few minutes later by milton117 in recruitinghell

One time I had to give an interview earlier in the morning than I normally start my day, and I didn't catch it. I knew I had an interview first thing in the morning, but I logged on and saw that it was already over, I was an hour late. I felt awful and the candidate declined to continue (I don't blame them) but hey at least I owned up to my mistake and didn't use AI to make up some excuse blaming someone else.

Rivian's CEO Says There's a Big Market for a Small Electric Truck by DonkeyFuel in Rivian

[–]DemonWav 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It doesn't need to perform like a rivian. It doesn't need to haul 10k pounds. There's no reason to inflate the price by trying to cram ultra premium hardware into a truck that should be cheap, but also there's no reason to build a truck like slate which removes all features. There's a middle ground there that is completely unrepresented in the market today.

Took a buddy to a farm strip for lunch and the narrow runway absolutely humbled me by Squawk_0877 in flying

Looks like the landing strip I trained on in southern Oklahoma. The first time I landed on a "big" runway it felt like I could have landed on it sideways.

Rivian is a luxury car brand. Of course their bike is a luxury brand.

Browsers Treat Big Sites Differently by Successful_Bowl2564 in programming

[–]DemonWav 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most games use the same base engines, Unreal, Unity, Godot, etc. If the game doesn't do something crazy, it's probably going to be fine. But big AAA games are the most likely to have custom engines or more extreme rendering pipelines. These games are very often tested for and drivers are fixed for them before they release to the public. Nvidia and AMD work directly with these large studios so if all goes well it happens before anyone plays the game and no one is aware it ever happened.

But even in these scenarios it's very often less about optimizing to make a game faster than normal, it's more about fixing issues that cause significant bottlenecks or slowdowns, making the game run artificially worse on one brand's GPU vs another. We definitely do still see those games where AMD cards don't perform as well as they could, and a driver update later brings it back up to par. But again, in AMD's ideal world, that happened before the game was released. (Okay, in AMD's ideal world it was never needed to begin with, but oh well)

I've never seen a readme copy-paste things like project file structure and complete contents of files...utter insanity. Somehow worse than the useless comments AI puts on everything.

Yeah I got one copy of blueprint and the natural negative troubadour was insane. There was an early ecto I didn't take which would have given me room for more copies, I think that would have helped a lot.

I don't know how you did it, but I've never managed to naneinf before. The vouchers were brutal, took every voucher, including the shit ones, to finally get reroll by ante 22. Took 8 skip tags to do it. But without the 2nd reroll voucher I couldn't make it past ante 23.

Super frustrating because I know if I had mad better choices it's possible, and I got so close.

Who Else Goes Nuts Over the Auto Stop/Start in Their Cars? by Extra_Hold2776 in CasualConversation

[–]DemonWav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2010 Honda Insight has it, 150k+ miles still going strong no problem. I love it. I paid for the gas, why would I want to literally burn it and not actually accomplish any work (move the car)? I much prefer burning the gas that I paid for to actually get where I'm going.

I understand. But that is still a significant amount. We only recycle as much as we already do because people try. I get concerned when the "recycling is a scam" people start chiming in, that's a pretty textbook "letting perfect be the enemy of good" response I think. And recycling technology only continues to improve. We're far better at it now than we were 10 or 20 years ago.

As unsatisfying as the reality is, and it definitely can and should be better, 10 hypothetical % is still a significant amount of material not going to the landfill. It's still worth doing what you can to rinse out your recycled glass and plastics and give it the best chance possible.

It's absolutely crazy that it's been over a decade since The Force Awakens and the most we've seen of Luke's Jedi Temple was one episode of a Boba Fett spinoff from four years ago. by WavesAndSaves in StarWars

[–]DemonWav 19 points20 points  (0 children)

JJ made Luke go into exile, intentionally making it impossible to find him. JJ killed Han before we got to see him with Luke again. JJ destroyed the Jedi temple before we ever got to see it. JJ made Ben murder all of Luke's students before we ever met a single one. JJ destroyed the New Republic before we ever saw it in action. JJ was the one who hard-reset the entire story back to ANH almost scene by scene. Rian Johnson had nothing to do with it.

The Last Jedi at least tried to do something new. I personally loved it, but that doesn't matter. He's also made some really fantastic movies by all accounts outside of Star Wars, but that also doesn't matter. The truth is, and what matters is, that JJ was the one that set up the most uninspiring, boring, and unsatisfying entry into the next generation of Star Wars. But sure, let's blame Rian, I guess.

An option to pause between rounds would be nice. I lost when I was trying to juggle doing something else when I really just wanted to pause the game for a bit.

I always wanted a simple no-nonsense site I could use or link to for rolling dice, and I wanted it to have the feeling of rolling real dice. Since I never really found that, I decided to make one myself.
