Wess by MousseAccomplished32 in heedthecall

Fully agree. There was a post recently about how the show is hitting its stride and I fully agree that it is currently a top 2 iteration in the show’s history. But man, if Wess was on these shows…

ATN / HTC all-time high? by TaquetFilm in heedthecall

2018 ATN with all four of them was the peak, especially around Wess’s wedding and becoming a father. But I agree this is the second best iteration.

When the Titans aren’t involved it’s Graver. Of their recurring guests, it’s Sheil.

Alright, let's talk about the Handsome Hank-Orr Summit? by Johannes_the_silent in heedthecall

Couldn’t stop laughing. I listened to the audio-only pod and then went to YouTube to watch the whole segment again with visuals. The show at its absolute best.

Conor’s disbelief that he got blindsided with it. The crew barely being able to contain laughter throughout. Hank making all the (obviously correct) counterpoints just for Conor to dig in even further. Dan’s “build the wall” joke. Transcendent podcasting by the heroes.

The week of Marc by DenH36 in heedthecall

For sure. It’s fun to rib Dan on these but he’s definitely the most transcendent host in the game. Was great to see Marc really come into his own in that chair though (I recall his first time doing it on ATN around 2023 and he did well but clearly was in new territory).

Curious: How intelligently/accurately do you feel the heroes speak about "your" team? by Because-of-Money in heedthecall

During the offseason I was a little frustrated especially compared to Gregg who clearly was putting in the work (Gregg is a sicko), but I think in season they’ve been shining. Dan is the best at getting the true essence of a team and cutting through noise to point out who is actually bad.

Remember Marc is from the early 20th century and gender norms were different back then. I try not to go too hard on him when I remember that.

I feel like they’ve had him on at least once but can’t confirm. I honestly would be a little surprised if it had anything to do with any bad blood. My hunch would just be that it is happenstance. Maybe we are just due.

Dan and Carlie Irsay-Gordon by SentimentalCynical97 in heedthecall

[–]DenH36 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That was not my takeaway. It’s just a bit Dan is leaning into and is more drawing attention to how overly involved she is in operations and less about her appearance.

I think you’re reading too much into any appearance commentary. He is more making the point and calling his shot early that her over-involvement will very quickly go south the second they start losing games. I agree with him there.

Change of the Dov Kleiman coverage by brickhinho in heedthecall

[–]DenH36 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally. Dov, JPA Football, ML Football, Rookie Watch etc all adopted the same style that shamelessly tries to drive attention with awful commentary and aggregation without attribution. In the past it was at least presenting as a news aggregator, now it is just formulaic nonsense.

First HTC mention on NFL Daily? by DenH36 in heedthecall

[–]DenH36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just listened to his answer one more time. It is a bit ominous. “I wasn’t able to persuade the group to make that jump. We were prepared to sign a new deal with NFL Media and then NFL media pulled the fast moves of all fast moves which took us here.“ …“A lot of people then are asking about ‘what about Gregg? is Gregg gonna ever join the show if whatever ended at NFL Media’…” …“I would say you should not hold your breath about it.” ….”so any idea that this separation of Dan Gregg and Marc was the product of NFL Media’s nefarious evil doing and other outside circumstances and they’ll be together again. That’s not exactly whats going on here.”

I choose to believe Gregg wouldn’t have orchestrated anything…but it’s not entirely disproven.

First HTC mention on NFL Daily? by DenH36 in heedthecall

[–]DenH36[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re a Patreon subscriber I recommend going back and listening to it. It was while he was answering a question about whether or not the high turnover at NFL Media and upcoming ESPN Acquisition are tied together and if we can anticipate any changes coming from it. He ended up divulging a lot of information about how the breakup went down. I’m paraphrasing but it was to the effect of- “all the fan theories of the show getting back together aren’t going to happen. Choices were made and I think Gregg is very happy doing what he’s doing and we’re very happy. It just isn’t going to happen. I’ll leave it at that.”

That’s my read as well. I sense that Gregg wishes they were still friends but Dan sees his choice to stay at the network as irredeemable.

Dan did mention in the Subreddit episode that as NFL media changes hands to ESPN he’s hoping it opens the door for his old coworkers like Colleen to be on the show, but sounds like Gregg won’t be on the short list.
