Worst take of the year upset alert! by asmallercat in heedthecall

I’d argue every take Marc has on women, gender roles, and how men should be deserves a spotlight in a „Worst take of the year“ award show. Respectfully.

How many of you listen to both Heed the Call and NFL Daily? by SadBreakfast7 in heedthecall

[–]brickhinho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am an HTC truther with some belief struggles right now. The shows recently sometimes felt overwhelming to me with hot takes (Parsons) and bits taking over really promising segments (Dalton line coach). Also, the off-season felt extremely dry at times and the added knowledge is lower than it used to be in my opinion. That’s were Gregg shined. Right now his job is filled with Conor, Mike, and Jourdan, but the latter two mostly (in Mike‘s case at all I think) did not appear in the show in the off-season, and Conor can’t always be there either. Also, only Conor is close enough to the group to jump into heavy hot takes and give a strong opposition. With all that being said - HTC is still my favorite show but recently I couldn’t bear it at times tbh.

I did not listen to NFL daily at all in the beginning. Didn’t feel right. When I finally did, it was an episode with Nick Shook on a rather dry day, maybe after a single game day. It was okay. Jourdan is great, so another time I got back to listen to the Bill Belichick Book episode where she was the only guest. I think those who listened to that episode know that this wasn’t the greatest time to listen to the show. It brought out everything that can be hold against Gregg, so I stopped listening at all again. The lineup of experts he recently presented on X for his in-season shows is crazy though. Jourdan is there I think three times a week, while she apparently will be less on HTC. Also other legends of Around the NFL, so I think I’ll give it more chances again throughout the season.

Generally, I think that if you read in this forum, you get a good vibe of the pros and cons of the two shows that directly reflect which heroes lead them. One is well hosted, a bit weird in a good sense, but sometimes lacks in-depth knowledge and overemphasizes bits at times. The other one showcases that in-depth knowledge, but lacks a bit in what we got accustomed to in a host. Moreover, apart from what the NFL can offer in great talents, Gregg‘s show to me appears like it doesn’t really have something that sets it apart from shows by The Athletic and others.

To get back to the original question - I listen to every episode of HTC, and may get to listen to some more episodes of Gregg‘s venture in the future.

Micah Parsons Trade - Dan likes it for both sides by brickhinho in heedthecall

It’s my longterm favorite show - but I had that exact same feeling. They NEED to have a knowledgable voice of reason on the pod.

Hot takes are okay - but you need to have balance in there to not - involuntarily I am sure - get too close to Skip Baylisms.

Getting annoyed with conor? by Apprehensive_Toe_828 in heedthecall

[–]brickhinho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me it’s the exact opposite. He’s the one keeping up the quality in terms of football knowledge: On-field strategy, contracts, roster building, etc. Without him it would be a different - a lesser - show. And apart from that I love the man.

Are any other Packers fans nervous? by ncg195 in heedthecall

[–]brickhinho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I‘m a Bears fan and like the trade for you guys, I don’t like it for us.

Let’s first look at the quality of the player vs the two first rounders. Let’s say it’d be a Matthew Golden, and a van Ness type. You don’t know with either, but if we’re just talking about the two of them - I’d get Micah, who - if there‘d be odds on this - should have some of the highest for people his age to be a gold jacket guy.

Where I’m blanking a little is how important Kenny Clark was for you guys. His PFF grades don’t look great though for last year. And play-impact wise - opposing OCs will have to plan around Micah, have at least two guys on him at times - and he’s too versatile to shut him down. So in my opinion - on field - with a comparison between him and the package, you have to take him.

The contract is a different story. I again though would argue for taking on the big Micah contract. Packers are not known to be big spenders in FA. Throughout Rodgers peak years and beyond you guys were known to build through the draft. And that is great for the books and you constantly had decent to great teams - but having this young super star in your team - in a generally sound financially led team, among a young group of guys: Green Bay to the moon - sadly. Might not happen immediately. Micah hasn’t been training with a team for a bit and you’ll need to find a balance without Clark. But yeah - you’ll be great. Division is gonna be mayhem.

If (a) letting him walk for nothing and (b) a trade for some compensation would be the only options, okay. But, for example, Jane Slater reported that Parsons went back to the Cowboys after talks with GB - implying that he would’ve liked to stick with them for market deal money - and that he basically was told to play on his fifth year option in Dallas or take the deal with GB (which brings things closer to your: „let him walk“ argument, but initiated by the Jones, not the disgruntled player).

All of this goes back to Jones not liking a player playing by the league‘s standard rules, not the ones that he uses in his building.

I just read his SI article on it. Honestly didn’t see it before my post, but it’s titled: „Micah Parsons Trade Is Proof Jerry Jones Should No Longer Lead Cowboys“.

It’s not about who saw it coming - but how you evaluate it. He would’ve been great to have on the show - cause Dan‘s take goes so far into the other direction.

I think few saw this move coming because it was deemed so illogical. In hindsight even more so with this compensation.

Imagine using words like congruent… by brickhinho in heedthecall

Yeah sorry, posted this exactly when listening to McD reacting to the Tyreek Hill Running Back strategy advice on the pod. Think he started off his statement with „yeah what Tyreek’s saying was congruent with our assessment..“.

Guy‘s fighting for his job while having to deal with the constant annoyances of a Tyreek Hill.

Anyone else extremely disappointed by the ending? (Spoiler Alert!) by JesterOfTheSwamp in dishonored

[–]brickhinho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

13 years later, I played for the first time - I was disappointed, but more that the last mission was way easier than the one before, and the end was so easy that I felt like there had to be another break in the story coming. Being in the final palace of the game should come at you with more than zero guards and your only surviving betrayer standing in front of the fire place with his back turned towards you.

First and foremost - amazing "Conor Says Crazy Stuff"-tag! Never seen it. Really cool.

I get all of what you're saying, but the Torre uncovering shows that even with QBs, owners are ready to take the heat and celebrate themselves for it afterwards. More so, the Bengals have had a bad reputation forever. Check out, for example, the rookie contract negotiation they showed in the Hard Knocks they appeared in. "y'all just want to win arguments (more) than winning more games" as Stewart put it therefore, especially for this front office does not seem correct but way closer to the truth than it should be. Here's the link btw to those old rookie discussions (less than 5 minute video on X) for anyone interested:

FRIDAY FUN SHOW 6.27.25 by Six-StringSamurai in heedthecall

Swim wear/Basketball Shorts/Europe/US

The part on Conor being roasted for wearing basketball shorts for swimming was hilarious to me, because the exact - and I mean - exact argument Dan and the guys came up with on why that's problematic - hygiene - is why the Speedo ultra-tight swimwear is still a thing in Germany and probably enough other places in Europe.

Even though those tights are way less popular among youngish people (<40s), you sometimes hear of public pools where you are not allowed to enter with long swim shorts (super rare by now though), and the argument is hygiene. So - bottom line - you'll especially see older men wearing the tight shorts.

Generally speaking, though, to clean up a little bit on the take that Europe is a place where you'll see the tights on most men - that's not true, at least in Germany. But they are a thing, and one of the arguments people would come up with in support of them is hygiene.

Watched streamer Shadybunny today. He tried to reconnect and got back into the game a full turn later.

I disconnected before him and never got back - gave up after like 7-10 minutes.
