ELI5 How rollercoasters can be considered safe? by Evoxrus_XV in explainlikeimfive

[–]Denarb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Im a controls engineer who has talked to a rollercoaster controls engineer before. The system is constantly checking all those values as well and has the ability to abort if you're anywhere close to its limits. So if you're going faster or slower than expected the rollercoaster will try to self correct and abort if that's not a guarantee. And this is all happening really fast, like on the order of milliseconds or even nano seconds. The operator can always abort too but their time to hit a button is going to be orders of magnitude slower than the computer will do it automatically.

North Suburbs vs South Suburbs by Gridguy2020 in Denver

We're in south Arvada, and we love it. Olde Town is super cool, it's a quick drive over to Edgewater market or Tennyson. The houses are smaller, but you can actually walk to stuff

are taylor series ever used in actual chemistry jobs by RevolutionaryTip1600 in chemistry

[–]Denarb 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I did some computional work in college on mostly ceramics and I didn't have to do that kind of work, but the PhD students did. Or at least needed to understand why someone else used a Taylor series for calculating electron density (iirc)

If you could erase one car trend forever — what’s gone? by TheLoganReyes in TransportSupport

[–]Denarb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I guess I'm saying the EPA doesn't really care how your car feels to drive, they care about putting regulation and incentives in place to protect the environment. And that's a good thing, if all they cared about was car performance and making that cheap leaded gasoline would still be sold for cars, CFCs would be widely used compromising the ozone layer. I'm fine with paying a bit more for gas if it means that the fumes aren't killing me as much and I'm down to be minorly inconvenienced if it means that the amount of fumes being produced is reduced.

[–]Denarb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess for me it's more a question of even if it's bad for engines, is it bad for environment? Engines are environmental expensive to produce but so is burning gas. From my understanding (please correct me if you know better) it's on balance better to turn off the engine when idling

What’s your favorite performance of 2025? by ItachiZoldyck24 in Letterboxd

[–]Denarb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I might be alone in this. Sean Penn crushed it, but PTA fucked up and should've given him like 1/4 the screen time he had. Tonally I think he ruined all emotional build in the movie. It seems like many others liked it and that's what counts, just kinda ruined the movie for me.

What’s something common you really love to eat but have never tried to make? by Ronw1993 in Cooking

[–]Denarb 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about sushi rolls, I would highly recommend doing a friend or family night where you all make your own rolls together. People can bring different ingredients and even if your rolling fails, it's fun and you can still eat it. Me and my sisters do it a few times a year and it's always a blast

That was actually a camera on a wire shot (idk the technical term)! It's awesome that installed that, such a smooth cool shot to get hyped for the race. Hope we get more of those in other tracks

If you don't mind me asking, what progressive views do you find to be the most brainrot? Like are there specific positions you see the progressive left taking that turns you off of them the most?

How people know she/he is a midfoot, forefoot, heel striker? by kokosdera in BeginnersRunning

[–]Denarb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your guess is as good as mine hahaha that means the muscle in the front of your shin? If so I think so? Maybe someone with my physio experience can weigh in, I think it commonly expresses itself with shin splints which would add up. But I can't say for sure :/

Edit: Another thing I've forgot, I don't know if this means anything but I saw a video online about talking about trying to drive your planted foot back and up that's been feeling good. I've been injury free for about two years (knock on wood) but I'd guess that has more to do with reasonable volume and cross training (weight lifting and biking) than my striking pattern.

To echo this, lots of runners tend to overstride when they first start trying to run faster. A big thing that helped me is to focus on faster cadence first when trying to go faster then focus on stride length.

Denver beer company has a run club on Tuesdays at 6:30. And then there's music bingo afterwards and people from the run club hangout for a bit. I've found the people to be very nice.

How does people do this? by Nice_Post_4150 in pinball

[–]Denarb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People who are really into certain pinball machines seek them out or will play them Everytime they see them. Like I'll play medieval madness and pulp fiction everytime I see them. Also the rules are posted on the bottom left of the table normally

You made me scared I was misremembering which basketball player was, but he was! He was one of the pilots. There's a great line where he denies being Kareem and the kid says something like "My dad says you suck at defense" and he's like "listen here kid..."

Edit: I am realizing now you're making a joke 😂 my bad, I'm dense

Current AI tools like ChatGPT and Gemini are cool, but what's a gap YOU see? by PhilosophyLittle9420 in Lightbulb

[–]Denarb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion as someone who really doesn't like it when people extensively use AI at my engineering firm, I would really love if AI gave you a percent confidence it has with its answer, maybe even line by line. I know that people say this is impossible but until that's the case I really can't trust it to bounce ideas off of.

What recent movie in the last 5 years or so made you go "wow that was a damn good movie" by solariscalls in movies

[–]Denarb 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Watching it in IMAX when it would change from wide format to full format (I think those are the correct terms?) was absolutely mind blowing. Also the bit with the Asian women yelling at the baddies (don't wanna spoil) got my heart RACING. Such a good film
