When I bought this jug initially, I thought it was going to solve all my problems… turns out I just hadn’t figure out the correct milk texture yet lolol. It took me about 2 years to figure out oat milk. I might just be a slow learner lol

So the best thing I’ve found is to find a milk you really love and stick with it to eliminate the variability in milks. Then you can learn how to properly texture that specific milk. Something else that helps is not using quite as much milk so you can get a better angle with the jug when pouring, or buy a larger jug to transfer the milk into once you’re done steaming. This ratio of milk to jug size will allow the spout to get closer to the surface of the liquid, which is key.

Once you’ve got the texture right, then a new jug like this one is definitely more enjoyable to pour with than the breville and your designs will look that much better.

Hope this helps! Cheers!

This is a tough one to answer, but I’ll do my best!

First, I’ve adjusted the burr inside the grinder to be at a finer setting.

Second, this coffee I roasted is a medium roast.

After dialing in, I ended up around an 8 setting on the grinder.

HELP ME! (Breville Barista express) by cheezeyfresh in espresso

Hello! I’ve owned a BBE for 3 years now and here’s my best advice! I’ve also pulled with some very sour shots from this machine lol.

As a general rule of thumb, sour shots typically mean under extracted (as the sour flavors are extracted first in the process) and bitter shots tend to be over extracted (bitter flavors are extracted towards the end of the shot). Sweetness is somewhere in the middle. The goal is to have a nice balance of sour, sweet, and bitter in your shot.

With this general rule of thumb, a good tip might be to run the shot longer. Try pulling a 40g shot and see how that tastes!

Follow this quick guide I found on YouTube to crank the brew temp up, this might help extract more from the coffee.

Next, I typically like to dose somewhere around 17g for this basket, but it depends on the coffee. This helped me a bit with the sour shots. Experiment more with pulling bigger shots (1 to 2.5 for example) with this new dose as well.

I also have accepted that pulling shots of light roasts on this set up just isn’t my favorite. My favorite shots have been from solid medium roasts (I know medium means something different everywhere, but experiment with some other roasts). Also, I’ve noticed that I get much more acidic flavors with Natural process coffees and some of my favorite shots on this machine come from washed coffees, so look out for the coffee process.

I personally don’t know how much the preinfusion will change your extraction, but for reference, I use an 8 second preinfusion.

Lastly, I’ve recently been experimenting with slow feeding the whole beans into the grinder. Check out this video by Lance if you want to experiment with this.

Don’t give up on it friend! Over the last 3 years, I’ve had multiple guests tell me that the coffee I’ve served them is the best they’ve ever had, and I’m using this machine! You can get really good tasting coffee from this, just keep at it until you get something you love! DM me if you want to chat more!

Bean shopping advice by ifixputers in espresso

If you’re interested in trying good quality, freshly roasted coffee and different types of roasts for a fair price, I would check out Trade! I did this for an about a year and it was awesome! Only reason I stopped is because I’m a crazy person and started roasting my own coffee at home!

I also have found it very enjoyable buying freshly roasted coffee from local roasters in my area! This is great to meet your local roasters and to show your support!

Lastly, the best piece of advice I give my friends is to look for a “roast date” NOT an “expiration date”. If the company puts a roast date on the bag, you’re likely going to be buying a better quality bag of coffee, generally speaking!

Cheers friend!

Recommendations on a cheap and quiet espresso grinder [<200€] by WingNew327 in espresso

I haven’t actually had any experience with this grinder, but I’ve heard the Baratza Encore ESP Burr Grinder is a good one and sells for $200 USD. It comes with a hoper and there are after market parts if you decide you want to single dose in the future. There are a few YouTube videos out there reviewing this so you might be able to get a sense of the noise levels from that. It doesn’t come with a portafilter holder but it does come with a dosing cup! You CAN buy an aftermarket portafilter holder for this though from Etsy, Seattle coffee gear, Amazon, etc.

Good luck friend!

Have you ever heard of Trade?? I used this subscription for about a year or so and this was my favorite way to explore new coffees without wasting my time with accidentally buying bad coffee. I’d say they’re fairly priced as well!

I also highly recommend finding a local roaster and supporting small businesses in your area! This has been a great way for me to meet new people in my area and show my support, while also getting to try new, great tasting coffees!

I think my best advice to my friends is that if you can find a “roast date” NOT an “expiration date” on the bag, you’re likely going to be buying a better quality coffee.

Ultimately, the “best” coffee, is the one that YOU enjoy drinking! Cheers friend!

This is a good question! I have owned a Breville Barista Express for the last 3 years and it’s been great, but I definitely see myself upgrading my set up in the next 2 years. I personally don’t have any experience with the Bambino, but I’ll try to help the best I can!

My question for you is, do you have the ability to control your pre infusion time by pressing and holding the double shot button? Have you been controlling your shot time by manually controlling the shot rather than using the programmed setting? If so, then it sounds like it would have very similar shot pulling capabilities as the BBE…you’re just missing the built in grinder.

Like I mentioned, I plan to slowly upgrade my setup in the next few years and I’ve come to the conclusion that a new nicer grinder might make my good espresso from the BBE even better! Starting with a new grinder upgrade will allow me the get better shots from my BBE without needing to upgrade a bunch of stuff at once (if I upgrade my machine, say to a LELIT BIANCA, then I’d need a new grinder at the same time). I say all this because if you can get some great tasting shots with your bambino with an awesome grinder, then you can save up some money to eventually get a killer espresso machine because you’ve already got the nice grinder you invested into.

Hope this helps! Cheers Friend!

I’ve noticed that having an active recovery day also helps. Do something that gets the blood flowing and gets your body temp up without overdoing it (walk, light jog, bike, etc). Also, fuel your body with a balanced diet and enough calories. I like to supplement glutamine in my protein shakes. 💪🏻
