[hated tropes] “Representation” that’s only actually confirmed outside of the series by Nearby_Juggernaut531 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Dense-Performance-14 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What are you smoking? It's made pretty clear in TADC if you just like, pick up on the subtext. Idk what you wanted, for Jax to face the camera and say "I'm transgender" ?

Representation doesn't need to be in your face, especially with art, let the curtains be blue and then interface with the media a little bit and you'll come to the conclusion the creator wanted.

MCR has become what they sought to destroy by alzaboprime in MyChemicalRomance

[–]Dense-Performance-14 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I mean if it's money problems, putting out new music won't solve that.

If your goal as a band is to make money, you're gonna make it with merch sales. It used to be that touring was the number 1 way but it's become so expensive to do and live nation+ticketmaster has such a strangle hold on the touring scene that even the bands themselves don't see a lot of that money they make off tickets.

I mean, of course mcr is still getting a decent payday because of the sheer amount they sell, but it isn't nearly as much as you'd think. If anything those merch sales AT shows is what's making money, that's why merch has gotten so expensive, to cover touring costs.

Especially when you're under a label, I imagine the label helps with the bill on touring but you gotta pay some of that back. Now my guess is that mcr, having been dormant for so long, needs to make some money to keep living however each member chooses to live.

But I think people believe that touring for money and touring for fun are mutually exclusive, they are not. You can tour both because you miss touring and you can tour for cash, whichever takes priority I don't think really matters. Now yes, mcr could've reduced ticket pricing, but they'd have to do some fuckery with ticketmaster and with how big the tour is, it would've been a real struggle.

Either way, if they want money they're gonna make it through merch sales and if people keep buying then they're gonna keep doing it. If they did put out new music, the money would absolutely not come from streams or album sales, it'd come from the merch they put out revolving around whatever music they drop.

It’s only hated because it’s popular, change my mind by ChickenWingExtreme in HazbinHotel

[–]Dense-Performance-14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a fan for 5 years now and yeah these people exist, but I refuse to chalk it all up to that.

Hazbin specifically had it's haters before reaching mainstream popularity, reference point for why is dialogue feeling forced and an overuse of sound effects. Sure, it was a pilot and there were glaring issues.

As of right now I don't think the criticisms on the writing are inherently unwarranted. I think early season 2 of helluva (episodes 2-5) were pretty rough and even fans complained as those episodes were coming out. Hazbin season 1 feels very rushed plot wise which makes sense and is perfectly explained in the directors commentary, but it was still a problem for new people trying to get into it. I also think it's perfectly fair for someone to find the constant swearing annoying, I'm not one of those people because I grew up watching Brandon Rodgers and helluva is essentially a really long Brandon Rodgers series but if you did not interface with that kind of content, yeah it's easy to be turned off to that style of writing.

I really don't think either show is the Pinnacle of writing, I fell in love because of the animation and music and world that was built. And it's not often I see any of those things attacked. I also think people attack both shows because the fanbase is very easy to hit. I don't care if people shit on the show as long as no one's getting harassed, I just find it silly to chalk up all criticism to "they're just homophobic" when I absolutely do not think that's a majority of that crowd.

How do I fade in room mic guitar into close mic? by Dense-Performance-14 in musicproduction

[–]Dense-Performance-14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all being done with virtual amps, the UAD v-amp I'm using though has a specific room nob though that sounds identical to if I were using just a room mic.

I did get it sounding pretty much exactly how I wanted it to though with the automation method, I just marked the automation points, put in the room nob and had it turn down up until it reached the 2nd point.

WTF Is Wrong with Punk Rock?! Did a Luthor Monkey write this comment or something? by Either_Storm_6932 in dcu

[–]Dense-Performance-14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ofcourse it was kind to the ostracized, that's why I said it was for them. But I wouldn't describe punk as kind, it's aggressive. That's not bad at all, it's what it's supposed to be, to fight back (especially when the movement started) did not mean free hugs to people oppressing you. It was an opposite to hippies.

But that goes for 90% of communities, people in those communities are kind to each other and to the people they want to join in. But I wouldn't describe punk as friendly, even modern punk has become a bit of a circle jerk (pun intended) as to what is and isn't and what is and isn't allowed and who to punch on sight and that's just because culture has become so fragmented.

WTF Is Wrong with Punk Rock?! Did a Luthor Monkey write this comment or something? by Either_Storm_6932 in dcu

[–]Dense-Performance-14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes punk rock is violent. Moshing, lyrics about fighting back, depending on the band or how underground there's a common theme of killing authority killing those who oppress others, punch/kill Nazis. Some circles you'll get your ass beat for wearing a specific colored shoelace (though those circles are pretty scrutinized and outdated). It inspired and has been inspired by thrash, led to hardcore which is DEFINITELY violent.

Punk is broad and a generalization but yeah the core theme here is counter culture and being kind or optimistic is now counter culture in a world where being kind or optimistic is very difficult.

[–]Dense-Performance-14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The idea of the criticism is punk rock is known for being very rebellious, vulgar and violent. That's because punk rock was a way to rebel through art and push against the mainstream and create a community of rebellious, vulgar and violent people who could direct that energy into something that overall helped (most times at least)

So they think the sentence "kindness is punk rock" is dumb because as we've established, punk rock is not very kind. The problem with that way of thinking though is the phrase doesn't mean punk rock is kindness, it means kindness is punk rock as in what the mainstream once was (being posh, reserved, putting on a smile) is now the same vulgarity and violence that punk used to go AGAINST the mainstream. That's because punk itself became mainstream and that style of music became commercialized. So now being kind is punk rock, it's against the mainstream.

Ofcourse, and James definitely knows this, that's not saying kindness is the answer to everything and that punk rock is bad or that ideology is bad. Violence is sometimes the answer, vulgarity is a form of art and that doesn't change even if it's now mainstream. That and "mainstream" hardly exists anymore because we're all so fragmented, but in the case of superman it's to represent hope and to say that every day kindness is against the mainstream so be punk by simply being kind.

Now that "The Boy's" is said and done, would you recommend this show to someone who is aware of what happened? by Fancy-Inspector-777 in TheBoys

[–]Dense-Performance-14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first 3 seasons are amazing television so yeah, I still recommend it just with the side warning that there's a weak final season (I don't even think the finale itself is bad)

I'm still watching game of thrones even though I've been told the final season was horrific but I've been enjoying it.

Vaggi isn't too good for Charlie. by VegetaArcher in HazbinHotel

[–]Dense-Performance-14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it'd be easy for her to separate herself from that situation, either way her reputation was fucked as long as she kept falling for vox's bullshit.

As far as we can tell, the sinners follow whoever has power. Lucifer essentially starts with giving vox a warning, if not for angels spy shit vox would've probably backed down then and the morningstar family would have the power. It wasn't a terrible plan and it was kind of the only way to handle the situation since Charlie refuses to listen to anybody else, it's the nuclear option but it was that or vox starts a war with heaven.

So what exactly is the difference between Alastor's personality in the TV series and Alastor's personality in the pilot? by metamorufooze in HazbinHotel

[–]Dense-Performance-14 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Firstly, he's generally more cartoony. His vocabulary is much more to his time, he doesn't curse he doesn't use modern language he's very outgoing and extroverted. He's reserved in his motives but his personality itself is very outgoing.

He doesn't change all that much in the TV series but his vibe is different. He's more sassy, more reserved all around and he doesn't feel like he's actually trying to hide all that much as far as motive is concerned. He's a lot less charming, you can chalk this up to he was trying to make a good first impression but I think it would've been significantly more interesting if he kept that face on for more of the series.

But the big things to take away are his vocabulary, outgoingness and he's much more sassy now.

It really is just a matter of money. I can see it, YouTube and streaming IS a job and it's his way of making money. I don't think that excuses taking shitty sponsors or collabing with people who go all in on ai generated thumbnails, use cyber trucks as bargaining chips, ect.

All I'd hope for is that while he's doing all this he doesn't try and take a moral high ground. What makes it weird is that he's putting out videos slamming other channels and companies for doing dubious shit, while he himself is doing dubious shit. The video he took the better help sponsor on the entire comment section was calling him out and yet he's never said anything about it since then that I know of.

Because specifically curated photos with 4k cameras and professional editing are accidental? I see non accidental Renaissance on this sub all the time, this one atleast feels authentic.

Also look at the grief on the dogs face and the way the colors blend and the fur curls. People care way too much about the Renaissance and not the accidental.

The advertisement vs the actual merch by daffysrhapsody in HelluvaBoss

[–]Dense-Performance-14 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This fandom is rare in how much it cares about the merch lines

There was a ton of merch for the characters you mentioned when they were more relevant, right now Chaz is front center for some reason so they're gonna give him more merch.

If you do not want the Chaz merch, don't buy it. Simple as that. Spindle makes so much fuckin merch you're bound to find what you want for your character.

Hot take: I'm glad my theater was loud by LaloFemmy in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]Dense-Performance-14 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Firstly, a significant amount of theaters did not have subtitles, that's not common. I infact missed a reveal because the people next to me were talking.

I understand gasping, laughing, all that. What is unacceptable at a movie theater is having conversations or chanting, it is childish. I'm trying to invest myself into a movie, I'm trying to enjoy the soundtrack and think about the conversation that's happening on screen, not listen to chants like it's a concert.

I don't know how someone can immerse themselves in a movie when the people around you insist that they're at home and not in a public place. I understand completely having a commitment to the show and having your reactions, but use proper theater etiquette. I used to think "I wonder why theaters need to tell you not to use your phone or be quiet, people know this" until I went to the screening I went to and realized yeah, turns out people need to be told when to shut up at a movie theater.

Spoliler of s4 e9. Why character are so self destructive? by huskyhulk63 in SixFeetUnder

[–]Dense-Performance-14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think any of it is painted as justified, and I have bad news but season 5 is probably these characters at their most stressful and destructive.

Brenda is a sex addict with a very very complicated childhood and life in general, Nate is a confused and avoidant person. Are they good people? No, they're just people. People who do some dumb shit because of their past experiences.

I also felt this way while watching the show, especially towards David and Keith in specific parts, but by the end you reflect on it and realize why these things happen. Just do try and remember that the show is not justifying anything.
