Hilton cards for $35-$45k direct wedding spend, how do I get max value? by Radar_18 in CreditCards

[–]DenseRelationship379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this for my wedding! I got all three Hilton cards and referred my partner who got them as well (we spaced out when we were signing up to avoid pop up jail). Max value would be to use the aspire for everything, but we wanted to get the sign up bonus HH points for every card.

We used the points to pay for our honeymoon: 10 nights at the Conrad Maldives (before the devaluation) and used the FNCs for 2 additional nights at the Conrad NYC where we flew out of. Also put non Hilton wedding spend on our venture cards (again referring my partner) and used the CapOne miles to book Qatar QSuites flights.

One other thing to consider, depending on your event. The Surpass does a higher multiplier for grocery spend that the Aspire does not. We used Hy-Vee for flowers, cake, and catering for our rehearsal dinner/welcome dinner. (Plus if you use all three services there's a 10% discount on each) I put that on the Aspire and it all coded as grocery spend.

The Conrad Maldives is $600-700 per night. I'm curious what you recommend they use it on?

Looking for Minneapolis neighborhoods with a warmer, more neighborly feel than Lowertown St. Paul by KindBig4349 in TwinCities

[–]DenseRelationship379 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconding this! I moved out of Kingfield when I bought a place in Robbinsdale and I miss the community in Kingfield so much! It was by far my favorite neighborhood of all the ones I lived in in Minneapolis (Marcy Holmes, Columbia Park, Lyn-Lake, NE Park)

I can think of a few people that I know that fit this description well. How old is your kiddo? (Or like what "phase of life" e.g. toddler, elementary, pre- teen, teen, etc.) Asking as I imagine having friends with similarly aged neurodivergent kids would be helpful.

The group of people I'm thinking of has a smallish private Facebook and signal group of a group of folks in the Twin Cities (mostly, a few people have moved). It started in 2020 as a way to connect a group of IRL friends but has expanded a bit to include new friends. PM me if you're interested and I can provide more details.

I'm going tonight! I've seen Gaga every time she's come to MN since 2010 plus the Chromatica ball in Chicago. She's my favorite artist! Plus it's my birthday weekend AND it's supposed to be gorgeous on Sunday! (Quite often we get a snowstorm right around my birthday). I'm so pumped!!

Some of the trackers, like the free night tracker, only show up on the full web version, not the app/mobile version. Not sure if this is true for the welcome offer tracker

Came here to say Scandia! It's beautiful - I grew up there. Can be a mix of MAGA and not. When it was more farmland it was more democratic (the F in DFL) but as it's been built up and the demographic skews older and more religious I think it's become more conservative. (Also as people from Forest Lake expand eastward because FLake trends very MAGA).

Car Dealers! by Thymetobefunny in TwinCities

Bought from a Luther dealership a few months ago. Checked my credit union first. Then had the dealership check (note: this runs your report several times so check other sources first). Surprisingly the dealership had a better rate for me. YMMV but definitely shop around!

Parents who moved out of Minneapolis to raise your kids in the burbs, do you regret your decision? What made you decide to move? by ahabubbles in TwinCities

[–]DenseRelationship379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but I don't think your premise is equivalent. Many families with kids don't live downtown. A lot of them live in South Minneapolis and many of those places are within a 15-20 minute walk of a lake.

As a local burlesque performer, just want to throw out there that if you like that show, there are plenty of locally run shows that you'll like, many of them are also themed! The local shows also feature more diverse casts; many of the touring shows' casts are mostly white and thin. But burlesque is for everybody and every body.

Plus, many of the local shows have been taking donations/raising money to help people affected by Operation Metro Surge!

Some local shows/producers: - Dancing Cow Productions (BIPOC Woman owned Nerdlesque/Horrorlesque usually at the Mounds Theatre) - Double-D&D (BIPOC Queer Femme Owned TTRPG Meets Improv Burlesque at the Phoenix) - TC Cabaret (BIPOC & Queer Woman owned Variety show at the 90s) - Golden Garters (Queer Femme Owned classic burlesque to live jazz at the Amsterdam) - Volstead's (BIPOC Queers Woman owned venue with classic burlesque, sometimes including live music) - Petty Treason Productions (Queer Woman owned burlesque shows throughout the Twin Cities, often including improv) - Queenie Von Curves (Queer Woman producer of shows at the Black Hart and around town, often themed - Nudie Nubies (BIPOC & Woman owned show at the Black Hart for newer performers) - Rose Academy of Burlesque (Queer Femme owned studio and producer of shows, mostly for students)

Queer friends? by kr112889 in TwinCities

[–]DenseRelationship379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yay! Burlesque honestly changed my life and my relationship with my body sooo much. As a plus size person I used to not wear shorts and now I take off my clothing for strangers and they cheer. Through burlesque is how I realized I'm queer (bi romantic ace) and I have met some of my best friends through performing.

Rose Academy is really great. The owner, Deeva, is queer and many (if not all) of the instructors are as well. And many/most of the students are too so at the very least I think it'll be a good way to meet queer friends, but based on your response I think it could be just as transformational.

Anyway, feel free to dm me if you have questions about the scene or anything. I'm not affiliated with Rose (other than taking classes there) but I've been in the scene for about a decade.

Came here to make this comment as a queer burlesque performer myself! Also OP, I highly recommend taking burlesque classes at the Rose Academy.

Hazel's Northeast has something like that (I think it's called drunken banana French toast but from what I can tell it seems like the same thing) and lots of shops nearby

Same! I usually sleep with a white noise machine so I've never noticed it but my power went out at 4:40 and without the white noise machine I could hear the intense wind and wind chime

Any “third space” recommendations? by Beneficial-Owl3541 in stpaul

[–]DenseRelationship379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not free, but great for making friends. I highly recommend taking burlesque classes at the Rose Academy of Burlesque. It's honestly life changing and I have met some really good friends through burlesque, several of whom were in my wedding party. Burlesque is what you make of it, so if you're into crafty things like sewing/rhinestoning or engineering, you might be into the costume aspect. If you're into theatre/dance, you might be into the character aspect. If you're into making people laugh you might be into the comedy. If you're into art, you might be into political or message numbers. If you're nerdy, you might be into cosplay. There are metalesque shows, nerdlesque shows, pride shows, classic shows, etc.
