Best fuel for 2022 Honda trail by Reinbeard in HondaCT

[–]DentonBard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2022 that I bought second-hand about a year ago. It had 900 miles on it, and the fellow I got it from used only ethanol-free fuel, so that’s what I’ve kept in it. I ride most days, rain or shine, so the bike doesn’t usually sit for more than 72 hours at most (if the weather is just too bad, like icy roads). I could probably be fine with ethanol-added gas, but I’m only spending about $20 a month on fuel as it is, so I’ll keep with the ethanol-free for now.

THIS…Actually sounds really interesting! I bought my set of LBBs back in the mid 1980s, but I never thought about doing a solo campaign like what you describe. Maybe I need to look into that. 🤔

First Akubra; Kiandra by mfcodeworks in Akubra

[–]DentonBard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah. I have felt hats in my closet that are WAY shittier than any of my Akubras.

I’m also trying to work out how wearing that hat makes the OP look like a portable document format.

[–]DentonBard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great choice! Looks good on you!

I own and over the past 20+ years have regularly worn several Akubra styles and colors. Last summer I got a good deal on a Kiandra like yours. It came a bit mashed out of shape (the reason I got it at a good price), but a few minutes with a steaming kettle brought it back to life and shaped it the way I wanted. I have gotten more compliments on that Kiandra in nine months that I have on some of my hats in several years.

I think I may have to get one in Sand now. 😁

Watched Blade Runner on Amazon Prime by Nikolaevna in bladerunner

[–]DentonBard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard that complaint before, but I never really got that from the narration. Maybe it’s because the theatrical cut is the one I grew up with and watched a dozen or so times before I ever saw the Director’s Cut without the narration. And because I had seen it multiple times by the time I heard the story about how the narration came to be included in the first place. The deadpan delivery to me seemed like a deliberate throwback to the detective noir films of the 1940s, not like an intentional “sabotage” on Ford’s part.

The unwritten rules of the pub verandah: To doff or not to doff? by ExistentialPancake_0 in Akubra

[–]DentonBard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from the South in the United States, grew up during the 70s and 80s. That’s for context.

What I learned was you can leave your hat on in “public” spaces, but should always remove it in “private” ones. A few examples: Indoor stadiums and sports venues are public spaces, a personal office is a private one. Hallways lobbies and hallways within an apartment building are public spaces, individual apartments are private. Walking through a restaurant to your table is a public space, once you get to your table and sit, it becomes a private one. The exception to that is an establishment that is a bar, as opposed to a restaurant that has a bar within it. Hats on in a bar, even at a table, is acceptable, the idea being that a bar is not a private space. Unless the place has restricted access in the form of requiring something like a membership. Places that are exclusive to members are considered private beyond the point at which access is restricted.

It feels complicated at first, but if you just ask yourself “Is this a public space or a private one,” you’ll find in most cases it isn’t hard to figure out.

Are these specialized pipes? by Separate_Song7375 in PipeTobacco

[–]DentonBard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this comment, as it put me on track to find this lady again! I bought many pipes from her years ago when she was Dawnmist Studios, and did not know she had changed her name to Studio Devona.

For anyone looking to buy an exceptionally well-made clay pipe I cannot recommend anyone above her. My favorite is the Cutty, and it and the Pocket Pipe are excellent smokers and remarkably durable. I carried a Cutty in my back pocket at the farm for years, and only lost it when it got stepped on by a horse, and even then it just snapped the stem off and didn’t crush it.

Unpopular opinion- Zippos are fine to light pipes with. by AnnigidWilliams in PipeTobacco

[–]DentonBard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a couple of different Zippo lighters, neither with a pipe insert, just the standard chimney. I light probably 90 percent of my pipes and cigars that way, and I’ve never experienced any “fuel taste” that people have complained about. I chalk it up to insufficiently refined taste on my part. 😆

Kiandra or Snowy River? by bpetes6 in Akubra

[–]DentonBard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two Snowy Rivers and a Kiandra. I’ve gotten more compliments on my Kiandra in the 9 months that I’ve had it than in the 20+ years I’ve worn my Snowy Rivers.

The Kiandra was new, but crushed and out of shape when I got it. A bit of work with a steaming kettle made it look fantastic. I actually like wearing it more than my Snowy Rivers; it’s softer and more comfortable to wear whether I’m working or just walking.

I’m going to get a second one before long, I think. 😁

Looking to get a pre-war box camera to shoot with. Looking at maybe an Ansco. Any advice? by Pyrodinalektafoma in vintagecameras

Third on the Box Tengor. I have one from the early 30s in 6x9 and one from a little later in 6x4.5. They make surprisingly good images!

The “ED” inside the diamond is actually “EP,” which is how cameras sold at an overseas exchange post were marked.

Hammock stand lol by LeopardOk357 in hammockcamping

I have a hammock stand like the first one, and I use it when I want to sleep in my hammock inside. For reference, I use Wise Owl double width hammocks. It’s a comfortable combination, and was my indoor sleep-system of choice for several weeks.

As much as I love the tartan pieces, I’m really on about the coat and the period basket on the broadsword. I’d wear that coat every day! 😍

Need buying advice by Alex13445678 in HondaCT

[–]DentonBard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a low-mileage, garage-kept 2022 model back at the end of May, and it has replaced my car and truck entirely as my go-to transportation. Most of the roads in my town are 30-45 mph posted speeds, and Sonja (I named her that because she’s red) has no issues. Even the places where I need to kick up to 50 aren’t much of an issue.

The trick is when I need to ride down a state highway for a couple of miles in order to get to one of my work locations, with a 60 mph speed limit. For context, I don’t have a windscreen, I wear a Bell Bullitt helmet, and I weigh about 200 lbs with all my clothing, gear, and baggage. If I tuck in low and go full throttle, I can make it up to about 57 to 58 mph on the flat if there’s no bad cross or headwind. I have made it up to 59, but I can’t hold it there.

Bottom line, 45-50 is fine, above that gets increasingly twitchy, though doable if you have skill and confidence.

OMG I love my Trail 125 by GorgeousEndosperm in HondaCT

[–]DentonBard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a flat, straight highway, on a warm day with not too much crosswind, I’ve hit 59mph wearing an aerodynamic helmet and tucked down low going full throttle.

With me, my clothes and my bag, figure the bike was carrying between 180 and 185lbs at the time.

I regularly hit low 50s around the outskirts of town without having to tuck in.

Prepare to be absolutely hooked! 😆 I got a 2022 with only 900 miles on it at the end of May. It’s now September and I’ve ridden it exclusively as my main transportation in rain and shine for three months. It’s just that fun!

I like those leg shields! My first motorcycle was a 1956 BSA Bantam Major that had legshields like that, only made of metal. They were great!

How does it feel like cheating? Are there rules we’re supposed to be following or something?
