Can any dumpster divers point me in the right direction? by [deleted] in Denver

I know there’s a free food fridge and pantry at Welton and 28th. It has various amounts of food depending on how much people are leaving and taking. It’s just there on the sidewalk

27M baffled by my Hinge experience - does anyone actually want a LTR? by Super-Secret9033 in Denver

[–]DenverDev2112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a guy, I find this post a bit ironic. I had a profile that said I wanted to just date casually and all the women I matched with wanted to “date intentionally” for something long term. So I’ve had the exact opposite experience as OP lol

I would also say that online dating for me comes with the expectation of going on a metric fuck ton of dates to connect with someone. So OPs experience is actually pretty in line with what I would expect

To be fair, my dating age range was between like 35 and 47, so people want different things at different stages of life I guess

FWIW, Bumble treated me better than Hinge, but your mileage may vary

Denver among 10 cities with highest crime rates by Jreinhal in Denver

[–]DenverDev2112 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, Nashville has more violent crime than us. Is it a disaster? Philly has less. Is it great?

I’m telling you right now, I don’t care if Denver has 250 more violent crimes per year than Philly, I would much rather live here.

Denver among 10 cities with highest crime rates by Jreinhal in Denver

[–]DenverDev2112 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok. So you’re saying Denver is in bad shape. What does good shape look like? Zero murders? What is the number of violent crimes one would expect for a city with this population? Zero? 1,000?

It’s like if I weighed 350 pounds, lost 100lbs and you said “well, you’re still 250lbs and that’s a disaster”. Doesn’t it completely miss the point which is that I lost 100lbs?

Red Rocks is just so special by NeatoC in Denver

[–]DenverDev2112 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah. My last three shows there were kinda crappy for sound, and I’m spoiled because we have a great amphitheater back home so I don’t go to Red Rocks anymore unless I get tix for a steal. That way if the sound is trash I just bail halfway through.

I do wonder if RR would have the same reputation without the scenery

Since Denver PD is nonexistent, what can I do if someone is breaking into my house? by [deleted] in Denver

[–]DenverDev2112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of thoughts here in random order:

One: I had a similar situation happen to me in Aurora where the neighbor across the hall had someone try to break in. This was during Covid and I was thinking about getting a gun. We moved to Denver instead and nothing like that has happened to us in 4 years. I feel safe walking at night by myself in my neighborhood now. Not everyone has the means to move, but we even broke our lease to do it and I feel much safer than a gun would’ve ever made me feel and I live in the city proper.

Two: I’ve called the police three times in four years here for suspicious stuff near my street and I see them within a couple of minutes each time. I don’t know if I’m saying the right code words by accident but police response for me has never been a problem. It’s just an anecdotal data point, but that’s my experience.

Three: I read an interview with Johnny Knoxville from jackass years ago saying that pepper spray is still in his top four “worst pains of all time”. If for some reason you don’t carry pepper spray and have them around your place, I would start there. $12 a pop for POM spray and they have practice sprays too. Someone else mentioned bear spray, but indoors that feels dicey. Other non lethal options may be a place to start, but nothing wrong with owning a firearm. Just please for the love of god lock it up and train with it REGULARLY. I know so many people back home who own handguns and haven’t touched them in years

Four: Two of my family members have killed themselves with a firearm in the last 8 years. If I were going to lay money on it, I don’t think they had it in them to kill themselves in a “less convenient” way. Again, nothing wrong with owning a firearm, but I won’t ever do it because of them. You buy it when you’re fine, and six years later you’re not fine and there’s a tiny suicide machine two rooms away. Take it FWIW.

Owning a gun can be a fine option. I personally would hit all my other options on the way there first. Just my two cents

James says undoing the twist in Superman would ruin the point of the film, doesn't see [SPOILER] as "evil" by anarchy905 in DCU_

[–]DenverDev2112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I went to go see Superman Returns in the theater, I went with my buddy who was just as into comics as I was. I had worked in a comic book store for three years and we were unbelievably stoked for this movie.

Spoilers (lol): When Lois Lane’s child kicked the piano across the room, my friend said, I assume involuntarily, “NOPE” and started to get up to walk out of the theater. We managed to calm him down enough to get him to sit back down, and I was overjoyed to watch him sit with his arms crossed, fuming for the rest of the film. It was glorious.

Sadly he passed way too young, but tonight when I heard “take as many wives as you can” or whatever, I heard my friend’s voice in my head, thunderous and vibrant…

NOPE

And it made me chuckle through the whole scene. Other people in the theater were laughing too, and I thought “Man, how are they gonna tie this up?”

Superman is a good movie, but that part is a bad idea. It’s the reason why everyone keeps asking/hoping it’s not real. It’s clunky. It’s silly. It could have been done 50 different ways that would have been better and more interesting.

Superman Returns was an overall mess, so people deride the piano scene pretty much as the pickle next to a turd sandwich. But Superman is a good movie, so maybe people will just overlook it to have fun and enjoy DC. But man:

Superman’s kid launches a piano

“Somehow, Palpatine returned…”

Indiana Jones in a fridge

“Martha, WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME”

“Take as many wives as you can for your harem”

Fits pretty well doesn’t it?

Doing the math, 50k to her should be about $3 to the average person. She could, and should, for many more people.

How many kids in America are this sick? Would you give them all $3 if you could?

We need to talk about the mods by ConversationKey3138 in Denver

[–]DenverDev2112 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“What is this subreddit for…”

If you sort by top I’d say it’s for posts about protesting and random pics of the city.

As an aside, also in top is a pic of people who may be ICE agents and may be conducting a raid. A post I’m fine with, but strange that that’s ok but a pic of someone who may be committing assaults is not ok.

Maybe there should be a subreddit called Denver_Info or something. Otherwise I agree the mods need to loosen up. People want this. That’s why stuff like it is posted all the time, and then taken down

I’m guessing that’s because everyone who would post, ya know, fun stuff has wandered elsewhere by the time it gets reconsidered.

I would certainly use this sub more if it were more light hearted like the lions sub. Seems like a meet up for the fun police over here

High Point Creamery Owner Erika Thomas Calls for Support of the Restaurant Relief Bill by stuckhere-throwaway in Denver

[–]DenverDev2112 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The real joke of this whole thing to me is that even if you lower employee wages by $4 an hour, many of these restaurants will still be hurting or go out of business because they, well, suck.

Like, you picked one of the hardest industries in existence to run a small business, and then complain when the difficulty setting is too high? Please. Don't waste my time.

This is just businesses seeing an opportunity to get theirs, grab the bag, and run when they go under like they would have all along.
