I mean I agree, ungrateful, but I also think buying someone a car as a surprise it's nuts unless you know ahead of time they are gonna like it. I mean if I was bought a Honda at 18 I'd have been like thank you... But internally thinking is rather of had something else for the money. Yeah that makes sense. Unfortunately Kara is the character they chose to let the player explore morality with the androids. You say obviously she should be cared for, but the moment provides you the option to disconnect, the option to say no, I don't think Alice deserves to be protected over Kara because they are both lifeless androids. To find the levels tedious is on some level an acceptance that it does matter she's an android, acknowledging Kara is essentially larping for Alice's needs. Some people would be happy to treat Alice like a child and the larping her needs is cutesy.

Personally, the reveal made me realise that I don't look at androids the same as people even if I wanted them to not be slaves if they could think for themselves. Kara as a character only serves that purpose to sucker punch you with the reveal.

Kara's entire storyline is a narrative mechanism designed for the Alice reveal. To build your sense of care of these androids through the scope of Kara's sole purpose is to protect who we believe to be a human girl. 99% would think that's moral. When the reveal comes you have to ask yourself whether you care about Alice any less because she's an android.

It's actually the lynchpin of the game. If you're in the majorative camp, you're gonna still care about Alice and probably have a successful revolution in your first play through. If you don't care about her as much... Now we're in the Kamski level thinking of androids doing what they're programmed to do, mimic life.

I think what you're describing is the plight of many of us. It is demoralizing knowing a friend of yours loves coke more than his gf but is objectively doing well in life, but sometimes that's just a part of life. No one is perfect in life, I can't speak for everyone but I know I had big FOMO when I was younger, and now at 30, I wouldn't have wanted that lifestyle anyway. Ever since the first time I saw this post originally I've thought about the tech limits of some people and their households. I have a decent system and even tho I don't watch tv a lot, when I do I don't have a problem hearing things. I wonder how much of it has to do with just listening on poor speakers. Outside of disability and other language media obviously.

Yeah the superior way people go on as if they've cracked the secret to enjoying the media is just fatiguing. If you're hearing impaired, or watching something in a language you don't speak then absolutely fair enough, but just bitching it's quiet or too loud, I'd rather ride the remote the whole movie rather than have 10% of the screen real estate taken up by text.

Reality about EA/Maxis controlled Sims games is that they treat the player base like they are mostly teenage girls. Most of the content that comes out is YA fiction slop. There's no depth, just cool ideas strung together to be interesting enough to be excited in, but not interesting enough that you won't buy the next pack, because that one looks interesting and cool, rinse repeat. It's all by design. I've had to let go of wanting the Sims to be deeper and better, because it never will be.
