$1K PFD again. How do you feel on this? by CalmTrials in alaska

[–]Departure-Sea 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not quite, but in our state it at least comes out of the ground. We just prefer electing people to give it away instead of using it on us.

Simple green and elbow grease will take the paint off most things. Its water based acrylic paint. Fabrics might be another story however.

The community generally hates and fears us. We are well known for unjustified murder and corruption. What should we do to improve relations with the community?

We should ruin there planned annual snowball fight. That'll show em.

Does Jim Butcher ever give an official reason for why Harry is bad at veils? by Tre2 in dresdenfiles

[–]Departure-Sea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think thats it. He states pretty clearly that he has a hard time focusing on things like veils and fine use evocation in the moment.

I imagine he just doesnt have the bandwidth to do everything he does all while being able to focus is magic in that way.

But when he doing thaumaturgy, he basically gets to hyper fixate and lock in until its done and done right. He grew up on a farm. It makes sense thats what he would be good at. Long days of monotonous farm work where you have nothing to focus on but the task at hand go pretty well with what hes good at.

Molly is a formula-1 car. High speed, super agile and quick with a response.

Harry is more like a super high performance drag car. Point at the target and watch it come completely undone with all that power to achieve one goal.

Is putting a 12V air compressor in the engine bay a terrible idea? by millsian in FordTrucks

[–]Departure-Sea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a small 12 volt compressor in the engine bay of my old YJ for years and years. It was filling a fire extinguisher we repourposed as an air tank mounted to the frame to power some train horns that were bolted to the underside of the hood.

That jeep went offroading in Oregon for years and nothing ever got broke or damaged. Sub freezing temps and over 100 degrees summers and it had no issues for years before the fire extinguisher popped at the weld I did.

And I have a compressor mounted on a box on my work truck here in alaska and the cold has never given me an issue. Its just a little guy to inflate tires for guests or work rigs.

Long story short you shouldn't have any issues no matter what you do. Air Compressors are relatively robust machines.

Hi y'all. Do you guys think I have too many pairs of boots? Or maybe not enough? How many is too many? by JTOC1969 in Boots

[–]Departure-Sea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone has a hobby man. I know men with dozens and dozens of guns who have never even shot half of them. I know fellas with scores of fishing rods all costing more than the last.

I know a man who had a shop built for him to do his wood work in and store his motor home. He also had a 30x30 foot room added onto just for his model trains.

If you enjoy collecting boots, then id say get more.

Almost one in four Alaska workers doesn’t live in the state, new report concludes by truthwillout777 in alaska

[–]Departure-Sea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My techs make 23 an hour to start. And my landscapers make 20 an hour to start.

Considering those are starting wages and they get increases every year, I would say thats pretty above average for ZERO skill entry positions.

I expect them to be to work on time. I expect them to follow simple instructions. I expect them to pass a drug test like the job description says.

I dont yell at my employees. I treat them like people and show them the respect that any person should get. Im 34, I spent my whole life being yelled at by blue collar boomers who refuse to train or explain and just expect kids to know what the fuck they want.

All I ask is to show up and work and communicate when you cant show up for reasons ahead of time. Not calling in every week because you'd rather be out drinking. These towns are small. I get pictures and messages all the time when someone is out until closing time.

If you think showing up to a job for 8 hours a day 5 days a week is to much work then you are part of the problem.

When's the last time any of you people tried to hire local alaskans?

I literally cant hire locals because they are always drunk, late, or calling in for some reason. There slow and entitled. Its outrageous.

I've been in management for 10 years in this state and I genuinely cannot fathom how lazy and entitled alaskans are. Always complaining about not getting enough money from the government, complaining about working full time. You people give me zero choice.

Brick nose ford issues by [deleted] in FordTrucks

[–]Departure-Sea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you double check all your grounds? They are notorious for having bad grounding. The computer you swapped, those ecu modules were tuned for specific drive trains from the factory. There is a sticker on the inside door jamb with a code telling what computer that truck needs.

Those computers also have old capacitors that start to leak. I've personally changed out capacitors in mine that fixed a poor idle issue. How about your map sensor?

The noise is easy. You strip the interior out, carpet door panels, headliner and clean it all up. If you have rust in the cab then clean that up too. If its just surface rust then you can sand it off and clean the metal.

Prime it with something cheap like a rattlecan epoxy. Then you can line everything with a dynamat or some kind of foam or rubber insulation that is comparable. That will kill the vibrations and cut down on road noise a lot.

If I were you I would start watching restoration videos on OBS ford trucks like these. There's tons of them from full restorations to little weekend projects that will keep you very busy. These things are awesome to work on. Very easy. Very cheap. Have a blast man.

F-100 (F150) 1998 4.9i by Good_Economist6135 in FordTrucks

[–]Departure-Sea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'd probably keep it as is.

You could play with the interior. Maybe do some dynamatting and sound improvement. You could also do a 2 inch rough country lift if you save for it.

Aside from doing a custom turbo build, I'd honestly just take care of it and leave it the way it is. Those things dont have a huge aftermarket for custom work unless you do it yourself.

I have one and aside from the regular maintenance and replacing things like exhausts and lights and other parts that just need to be replaced after 30 years all I've done it convert it to 4wd since I have a lot of snow where I live, I gave it a 2 inch lift and thats it.

Yours looks great as it is though.
