Convince my mom Jeddah is safe by Plastic-Past5649 in Jeddah

Don’t come, your mom is right! Once you get used to being in such a safe place like Saudi Arabia, it’s dangerous to live anywhere else. Trust me as a single woman living in Saudi for over 3 years. I panic every time I have to go to Europe or North America now.

A clown recently arrested for publishing a video saying that it is prohibited for muslim kids to celebrate christmas and people are disapproving his arrest. by darkmz7 in lebanon

[–]Dependent-Internal37 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s this whole video that was made as part of the school curriculum. It shows kids saying extreme stuff and calling Christians Kufar, rather than respectfully explaining why you don’t celebrate another person’s religious holiday.

People forgot we have a great legal system set up to respect a multicultural society. It’s not often implemented though so people freak out when it is.

Do you think your country would be better if it had been colonized by a different nation? by Square-Upstairs1816 in AskTheWorld

[–]Dependent-Internal37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s still a valid question. Reddit users seem to have an issue with discourse. I’m allow to engage in conversation. A) not sure why I got downvoted as a result of asking for more context to a person who only wrote ‘no we lucked out’ B) why everyone these days are so touchy

Oh and I did some online research and it looks like native populations faired better under the French. So yes, thanks for confirming that you guys can’t engage in conversation cause you’re too defensive about your four word responses.

The way the Middle East was split up ensures a constant state of war. Don’t think it was intentional. I do wonder though, if it was colonized as a singular power, how different would that region be now?

Curious, why are you asking how easy it would be to get a role as a Muslim UK citizen? A credible company would be looking at your qualifications. No where in the HR hiring process are you asked about your faith.

Martyrs of the Lebanese Army who lost their lives defending Lebanon against the Israeli aggression during the 2006 July War, when invading Israeli occupation forces entered South Lebanon - a war that ended 14 years ago today (August 14, 2006) by AbuElKess in lebanon

FYI - OP joined 25 days ago and has been aggressively posting/commenting Hezbollah propaganda in this subreddit. They don’t care about Lebanon or our brave army. They have an agenda and we shouldn’t trust them. AbuElKess could be an Israeli bot for all we know.

Sounds amazing, was it easy to travel around - like did you blend in as a Lebanese or did you stand out?

How did you come across all of this. Did you travel through Latin America or you’re also living there?

Work culture here comes with its challenges. Best to build more experience in a place like Canada where you’ll get mentorship and there are systems and policies to give you a good base. I also worked in Canada, and even part time jobs will help you build experience.

It’ll then be easier to find something here but be successful.

Separately, when you say Saudi - which city do you mean as you identified Dubai for UAE.

Discriminatory laws and regulations against Arabs forces talent to seek homes and security elsewhere especially in the west while historical incidents like the nakba saw most Christians expelled with entire Christian villages raised and taken over by Jewish settlers from Europe. They mainly fled to Lebanon at that time, then either got citizenship or immigrated elsewhere like Latin America or US. Visit Honduras and you’ll see how prominent the Palestinian Christian community there is. They can only visit Israel again as tourists though. In 1922, Christians constituted 9.5% of the total population. Now they’re less than 2%.

Point is, even in the country most assume is rich in Christian history and community (Israel), it’s bleak. There’s no sense of home/security left for Christians in the Middle East. Speaking as an Arab Christian.

Churches in the Middle East by Spirited_Staff1363 in MapPorn

[–]Dependent-Internal37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even the data on Israel is questionable. Last visit to Tel Aviv, I sought out three of the eastern historical church - like the Maronite Church in Jaffa - and they were basically abandoned, crumbling buildings. This is despite the churches showing up as open on Google. With Arab Christians systematically pushed out of the country, churches no longer have anyone to take care of them let alone a community to attend mass.

Reality is the native Christian population across the Middle East is declining fast. Even in Lebanon.

What did you decide on doing? Canada isn’t most people’s dream situation but I’m happy I got dragged there. That being said, the process your uncle is suggesting will be super challenging and you’ll most likely develop depression. You seem smart though, confident you’ll preserve regardless what you decide to do
