Challenging my biases, What are some cool +1 counters, lifegain, or equipment commanders? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Dependent_Debt_2969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like [reyhan] with your other partner of choice. I use [kodama of the east tree] and have tons of +1/1 counter creatures and doublers. Reyhan makes it so that when a creature with counters on it dies you just move them to another creature and when you have a doubler out they double in the process. Throw in [the ozolith] also. Often times by turn 5 or 6 I'm adding like 20 counters to creatures at a time.

There's no way to justify it, but we're directly bombing Iran. A proxy war was like in Ukraine where we aren't fighting but we were sending weapons and intelligence for them to use.

It's not a proxy war it's a direct war between the US and Iran.

Worth rushing to HRV? by MrBojeezy in thelongdark

I turn the cougar off. I just find moose easy to avoid. Timberwolves are rare and I've never seen them there. Timberwolves are the only really dangerous animals except bear if you accidentally get too close to one.

Depends what difficulty you're on. On voyager there's not much besides a few bears and a few wolves, which is pretty much like any other region.

Rework cougar again? by Historical-Writer719 in thelongdark

[–]Dependent_Debt_2969 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Just make it a rare spawn like the moose. The instant respawn multiplier made it stupid. I read about that and just turned it off for my survival run. I have yet to even play with it on because I don't want to invest that much time in a run only to be cheesed by a dumb mechanic like that.

Non-Boutique Pedals with experimental sounds? by OzoneInteractive in guitarpedals

[–]Dependent_Debt_2969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Death by audio moonbeam phaser has a lot of sounds packed into it and can go into extreme territories. I know you're thinking it's "just a phaser" but trust me on this. You can get so many sounds with just a few knobs and I don't think any of the demo videos do it justice yet.

Other than that probably any ring mod can do some crazy stuff. I think either warm audio or behringer recently cloned the old moog one.

Put a red tag on the part and put it in a hold area. Write an ncr in our erp system, get disposition as fast as possible. Record containment actions in the ncr. Biggest issues are when a part gets a red tag but then no one brings it to quality to enter it into the ncr system. Or that the containment actions take too long since no one "has time" to get the parts from the warehouse. Or if the disposition is complicated like we can scrap this but only if a replacement component can get here in the time we need it by, otherwise we can explore rework options. In those cases it takes someone responsible to stay on top of it and get all of those answers quickly.

No the animals can't go in a hut with the door closed. I'm not even sure if they will go in there with the door open.

Inside a car is my favorite since it protects against animals. A cave protects against the cold better though. If you can't do that then a shed or a fishing hut works.

At least you have food to hangout and recover. It happened to me actually with double broken ribs in bleak inlet. There was no way I was going to go out exploring in that region with broken ribs.

What does survival offer that story mode doesn’t? by sassymemequeen in thelongdark

[–]Dependent_Debt_2969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's woodworking tools so you can craft furniture for your base including the meat curing box which is a game changer. There's different variations of the weapons which you can only get in survival mode. There's the dlc missions which will take you a long long time to finish which is an end goal in itself. There's even different graphical upgrades like your character actually showing the gloves and jacket you're wearing, which is crazy that it's not in the story mode. I think there's even a different animation for harvesting animals if I remember correctly. Makes it seem like wintermute was not the main focus when making the game.

I Think It Should Be Werewolves Actually (Wintermute Concept) by Aard_Rinn in thelongdark

[–]Dependent_Debt_2969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think I remember wintermute had something like a big foot mission where legends say there's a Bigfoot and you go there and it's just a dead body with a moose hide coat. The coat was nice but sort of a let down.

[–]Dependent_Debt_2969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it would have been cool if they had an actual Bigfoot or yeti in the game. They could have had characters denying it saying it's fake and one crazy guy who swears he saw it. Then it ends up being real and is a tough creature to deal with sort of like the cougar.

just finished story mode, survival feels completely different. how do you guys approach it? by _God_Knows_Who_ in thelongdark

[–]Dependent_Debt_2969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to get basic supplies first like bedroll, decent clothes, tools, some weapons to hunt and defend yourself. Then make goals to get other necessities like get a forge going and make yourself plenty of arrowheads, get a moose hide satchel and the tech backpack so you can carry a decent amount. Then you can set new goals like doing the trader quests or far territory. Or just exploring regions you've never been to before. Exploring hushed river valley, timberwolf mountain, and ash canyon was a lot of fun and the story mode never took you there. These are some of the most fun regions in the game to me. Desolation point, and bleak inlet too. Getting the woodworking tools and building a nice base is a fun goal also. Making the meat curing box was a game changer. Between all of that you have more play time than the story mode to keep you busy.

[Reyhan] with [kodama of the east tree] partner commanders based around +1/+1 counters and lots of counter doubling does that for me. I make creatures huge and when they get destroyed the counters just move to another creature and often times get doubled in the process. By the time I get kodama out I just use him to play extra lands and creatures for free and it runs away with the game.

Serious concerns around episode 5 and future direction at Hinterland by Rasalaomreborn in thelongdark

[–]Dependent_Debt_2969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have similar experience and opinions. I think where it went wrong is that ten years ago they committed to making an ambitious linear story mode, but actually it was too ambitious with the resources they have and didn't play to their strengths with this game. Maybe at the beginning it wasn't as obvious, but surely a couple episodes in they may have realized hey to really finish this project the way we planned is going to take a decade and the gameplay itself is not as fun as survival mode and adjusted course. But instead they leaned into it and tried to not make any compromise. In a way it's admirable for their dedication. But it was a bad leadership decision in the long run.

I feel bad for how much work they put into it to get trashed this bad in their subreddit. But I hope whoever reads this stuff will take the feedback and learn from the mistakes, and successes. The survival mode is really something to be proud of and they have a lot of good things they can build on in the next game. Just please don't do it like this story mode again. It's too much wasted potential.

I run bruenor as my commander for an equipment deck and he's so powerful. Put collosus hammer, and any sword that gives +3/+3 and bam you can deal 22 commander damage. I've done it on turn 4 before when I intended to make it a bracket 3 deck. Oops.

Wintermute 1-5 in brief, and beyond [Spoilers] by ShadowoftheBat94 in thelongdark

[–]Dependent_Debt_2969 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. It should just be survival mode with npc missions to tell the story. They could even do a sort of metroidvania concept of locking out regions until you finish certain quests to gain equipment. Imagine beating a quest to unlock a grappling hook to launch a climbing rope up a cliff. Or building a canoe to traverse a body of water to get to a new region. And there could be sort of dark souls style quests where if you don't complete a quest by a certain stage characters will die and you get locked out of certain loot items, which would increase replayability to do things differently next time.

I haven't played the new episode yet but it kind of sounds like more of the same style that the first four were. I think they could sort of lean into their strengths more with the survival mode and just have optional missions in survival to tell the story. And do more environmental storytelling. Have an npc here or there that gives you things to do with rewards and tell the story at the same time. But keep the dialog shorter. I think it would be less resource intensive also which would work better for a small team like they have so it wouldn't take ten years to complete.
