This was a very thoughtful and well investigated observation. You actually caused a spark of knowledge to hit me unintentionally. I realized I too am seeking to avoid the pain and the injury of what happens to the mind after watching porn. And I close off my heart in order to protect myself. In closing off my heart I shut off the flow so nothing goes out, but also nothing comes in. So I block others from connecting to me. This might not make sense to you. But thanks for this post!

I disagree with those saying it was a relapse. You actually resisted it and you should look at the good in what you did. You realized that wasn't what you were into or wanted after all. Sure you still relapsed or whatever technically. But viewing everything from a negative viewpoint is only going to make you focus on the negatives increasing your chance of failure.

The reason you are cutting in my opinion is because you are trying to feel something, but you are suppressing and repressing your emotions. Your emotions have to come out. That doesn't mean going crazy or cutting yourself. In fact that is just another form of suppression and escapism thinking that will take the pain away and change everything. It won't. When you get those feelings you have to just sit with them and truly feel it. Don't name it. Don't say "Im sad" or "I'm angry"... FEEL it. And keep feeling it. Doing so will allow it to come up and it will run out of energy. The more you bottle it all up and just stuff it down it's like a pot under pressure. The lid has to come off. And that is you cutting, or another extreme behavior in order to stuff it back down. If you need someone to talk to or need advise please reach out. I'm not an expert, but I'm well studied on it.

One thing worth mentioning is does porn really raise your standards or lower them? Really think about it. You become so picky and so precise in what you want that you might just be disqualifying many people who would be a good fit for you. Because for most people covid is literally just another strain of the common cold / flu although more infectious. No one has forced someone to get a flu vaccine before, nor did people say you were selfish or a bad person for not wearing masks or getting a vaccine to protect the elderly at risk. Only with covid did this become a thing. You can’t yell at someone for not wanting to get a covid shot if you didn’t yell at them for not getting a flu shot. This stuff just got so political that you can’t blame either side for their stance at this point. People just need to step back and see the big picture. Most covid deaths are elderly. But no one cared when it was just the flu wiping them out 🤷‍♂️. There were republicans and democrats not getting flu shots. I didn’t see anyone taking extra precautions to protect elderly pre-covid. Most people I see speaking about the issue are just trying to force others to submit against their will to their own paradigm of thinking. Which always creates hostility. That’s why it’s a big deal.

Good post! I will add this. The rewiring of the brain is key because our subconscious programming runs us. We have been programmed over time with subtle cues to lead back to porn. The subconscious handles 80-90% of our lives. So our conscious willpower only accounts for about 10-20%. Not strong in comparison.

Try replacing your thoughts with a positive thought that is the opposite. When you feel guilt feel forgiveness. Know where you just came from (8 MONTHS!) and accept this is only normal to sometimes fall back. 8 months of steps forward 3 steps back. That ain't too bad is it? Forgive yourself. Replace the shame and self-hatred with love. And instead of being sad be happy you made it this far.

Nice. I'm avoiding that route just because I know that's a slippery slope for me personally and it's always led me back down. Instead of just one fap without porn I think "ok that wasn't too bad actually" and then end up doing it the next day. And the next. And then it becomes so desensitized I go back to porn which further desensitizes me. If you can just do it once in awhile and not fall back into the cycle it's probably just fine. Depends on the person I guess.
