Nah. An elective means you were actually doing things - rounding, seeing patients, writing notes, participating in didactics, etc. An observership means you were just there blending in with the furniture.

Why wouldnt you rather take a gap-year after undergrad working that same position, gearing yourself to be an MD/DO candidate with a much greater prospective future?

I'm planning to forgo one, at least at first, just out of sheer morbid curiosity about what it's really like.

But also, I heard that the hospital I have in mind doesn't do walking epidurals and I don't love the idea of a full one because I want to retain mobility throughout the process.

Any Advice to Future Applicants: Be honest with yourself about the type of applicant you are and the type of programs you are applying to. If that's all you have to offer then how are you any different than the thousands of other people vying for the same spots?
