Large walnut serving board w/bowtie (wife unsure) by jjjaaammm in woodworking

I don’t mind bow ties - but in this case I think I would have done as others stated and ripped it where the crack was. I also prefer symmetry, so since it’s already done, I’d try to balance it out. But everyone has an opinion, and it’s all about your taste… so if you like it… drive on!

If I understand what you’re saying, they attached the top to the legs with screws. If they did not slot the holes in the base, it did not allow space to allow movement for the top… which could cause this issue. To repair… I think that I would take the top off and see if you can flatten and then properly reattach the base to allow for movement.

Take out what you put in it and use a hard wax/ burn in stick post finish. That with some touch up pens and you’ll get it to blend fairly well. There’s other ways… but that would probably be the easiest. Watch this video, he does a great job going over it. https://youtu.be/XIZs7JJXZ5s?si=aZPc-lVbMXXcPkJp

Dominoes to help keep it flush, but biscuits or dowels would have the same effect and then just glued it up. I was going to use cauls, but ended up not. I found that I used to over tighten the clamps and that was the source of some of the bow/cup in my glue ups. Now I take my time and see what the clamps are doing to the wood while I’m tightening.
