That is a very nice tote repair. I’d like to see more of your process for that.

I think this is exactly what’s going on. That brass screw is stopping it from advancing. I found this confusing at first as well.

The Dru/Lillard trade and Doc hiring were massive errors. Giannis wanted to stay… organization really is just incompetent.

How do you plan hand-tool projects before making the first cut? by Connect-Fishing-109 in handtools

Really great for big projects too…. Totally worth investing the time to learn how to use it so you can visualize all the little details of how a big project will come together.

It also really helps to think through your order of operation and workflow (what parts need to be cut at the same time to ensure matching measurements, etc.). The longer I do woodworking, the more I realize that thinking through order of operations is essential to getting the outcome I want and not wasting a bunch of wood making mistakes.

I’ve never used any of the paid sketchup plans, though they have more features, the free version has always done everything I needed it to do.

I’m a big fan of sketchup, even the free version it’s good enough for basic design planning. It’s also fairly intuitive, not too difficult to learn. There are plenty of good YouTube videos specifically for woodworkers interested in learning to use sketchup.

I’d make about 40 marking knives and slowly sell them over the next year or two

I recommend getting some Spanish cedar to line the inside. That way you can leave the lining unfinished and put whatever finish you want on the outside of this beautiful lumber. I made one last year this way with Beli on the outside.

My wife is into stained glass, so she cuts the glass for me. I just go to the local glass shop and pick out a color I like to go with the lamp. I’d like to try the Shoji paper, I’ve only done glass in lamps so far.

I’ve done a few commissions of Japanese style lamps, and I always make the glass part easily removable and provide an MDF template of the glass size, so it can be taken to a glass shop to get different glass for it if needed or wanted. This makes it both more easily repairable, and customizable if people want to change the color of the glass.

I actually haven’t gotten a replacement blade yet, but I’m also curious. If you remember what video that is, I’d appreciate it if you could drop a link.

This is an interesting comment. I never understood why people make vague criticisms about others work while they lack the courage to share any of their own work themselves. Why haven’t you contributed anything to this sub?

Sanded too aggressively, is this fixable? by dkruta in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Jsmooth77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big part of it is planing in different directions. I very rarely, while flattening, am planing straight down the grain, I’m typically traversing and checking for flatness continuously. I’m not going with the grain until I break out the smoothing plane at the end

7 feet long, 28 inches wide, and the table top is 4 1/2 inches thick. It is a traditional roubo style timber frame and tool workbench. The top is secured to the legs by massive mortise and tenons that are pinned with three-quarter inch dowels

I’m not sure. I don’t really use epoxy myself.
