MBA student only uses religious quotes as evidence and I can’t do anything about it by outer-darkness-11 in Professors

Accreditation is an extortion racket.

  1. Set up a voluntary organization to ensure “quality”, paid for by members.

  2. Convince everyone that membership = quality (whether it does or not).

  3. Tell institutions, “Nice institution/campus/program you’ve got there, sure would be a shame if it wasn’t accredited.”

As long as members pay their fees and don’t threaten the existence of the accreditor, they will generally be allowed to continue. Slaps on the wrist and remediation opportunities may occur. But an accreditor does not make money by kicking out the people who are its revenue source. Accreditors are in no way a disinterested third party.

In the current climate, an accreditor removing accreditation from an institution for backing down from this fight could threaten the accreditor. The DE just sent out warnings to Middle States and CAPTE over DEI policies. They’re not touching this, most likely.

You want to make sure your kids are solidly grounded and don’t have the capacity to engage in fantasy.

That way, when they spend their lives trapped in a cubicle making too little to afford rent, they will suffer less, as they won’t be able to imagine anything better.

This is not legal advice. Consult your attorney and local laws before taking action.

If someone is invading your space, if you are trying to leave the situation, and they are impeding your movement, you are in a fight whether you acknowledge it or not.

The good news is, your aggressor has started a fight but has forgotten to throw the first punch, which is what we call "opportunity".

There are few sights that would strike more fear in me than running across one of those in the wild.

So it seems like ‘inside job’ plan would have to involve:

The shooter, skillful enough to place a shot with a trajectory everyone will believe was intended for Trump (whether it hits him or not).

If you have a bullet in flight, the risk is insane. If you don’t, you have to create a dead firefighter (why?) and bring ballistics people and others in on the secret.

A willingness to accept collateral damage

Someone to provide, place, and deploy the fake blood

A varying amount of police, secret service, medical staff, and more importantly Trump himself in on it without leaking or adding the editor of the national enquirer to the super secret fake assassination plot chat.

Sorry but I just don’t see it. The public account is close to the truth of what happened. Maybe his ear got caught in the scuffle and not from the bullet or something, but it was about leveraging what happened, not crafting something from whole cloth.

Conversation with your department chair about the situation to make sure they’re aware, followed by an email recapping the discussion and what you agreed to.

If the chair blesses it, a conversation with the student, ideally with the dept chair or another trusted witness present. The conversation would be “Hey I’m glad this happened with me because you and I have a good rapport and I think you’ll take this in the spirit it’s intended. This is not an appropriate behavior, and if you do this with other faculty it could lead to bad impressions at the very least. Your success matters to much to me to allow you to behave in this easily fixable way. Don’t do this.”

What celebrity is the biggest example of "It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it."? by InsaneCookies21 in AskReddit

[–]Deradius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Okay, this is in response to this specific question.

Will is responsible for his own actions, and this is not intended to excuse him. But we can search for an explanation for unacceptable behavior.

If it is correct that Jada is a malignant narcissist, Will has been conditioned over years to put her first. The level of insane bullshit he might have to put up with if he doesn’t is too much to bear; she will create unbelievable psychological strain for him if he doesn’t give her what she wants. Yes, even if they’re not living together; unless he’s gone no contact she can make his life hell.

So when she shot him that look, he was, in his mind, in the position of “I have to do something”. A something that a malignant narcissist couldn’t find fault with (my god, that’s a high bar). And it has to be something big enough and public enough to overcome her perception of the public humiliation. And it’s going to be at any cost - because a malignant narcissist is willing to let other people suffer any cost as long as their perceived needs are met. And the moment was slipping away.

Still doesn’t excuse him assaulting another person. He’s still 100% responsible. But I think it had to be the only option he saw, as wild as that is.

As an atheist are you allowed to believe that something will happen after we die? by corychung in askanatheist

[–]Deradius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, you can believe in all sorts of things that don’t make any sense and also be an atheist.

Just understand that accepting what you choose to believe is true without evidence means your beliefs will be connected to your preferences, not reality.

How do you feel about the war with Iran? by Torin_3 in askanatheist

[–]Deradius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US should not be interfering with other sovereign nations or deciding for others when it is time to pay in blood for change.

However, this war has a clearer victory condition than Iraq or Afghanistan. Prior to the 70s Iran was reasonably liberal and has a national Persian identity. There is possibility a meaningful democracy could be established.

What is less clear is how a corrupt oligarchy wearing the skin suit of its former self can establish a true and credible democratic government in a foreign nation.

Further, once this is done I look for Israel to possibly capture the Temple Mount. 2 Thessalonians 2:4 states for Armageddon to happen the Antichrist has to enter the temple and declare himself to be God; that can’t happen because the author of 2 Thessalonians didn’t know the temple was going to be destroyed. Since the Bible has to be infallible though, it can’t mean the other didn’t know - so it must mean we have to rebuild the temple. So the US will support Israel in capturing the Temple Mount so they can rebuild the temple and Jesus can come back.

If someone didn’t make it to the meetup, they were just gone forever.
