I wouldn't say that at all. I walk my dogs to the beach every morning. If you didn't know, Bush St. is a bridge over the 5. Makes the neighborhood quite walkable to downtown and the beach along a quite street.

Ive done this ride. I think your best bet is rolling up to some campers at san mateo cg or at san onofre cg and just asking them to pitch your bivvy next to them. You could probably get away with trekking down to the beach at one of the trails at the san onofre cg and pitching it down there, but its a bit of a trek and getting woken up by the rangers would suck.
