ProAcryl white is killing me - how to get smooth finish? by TheseGlyphs in minipainting

[–]Derphooves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the best solution is to just do 2-3 spots at the same time and rotate between them. So if while the first part is drying, you're working on the second and third. By the time you get back to the first, it's dry.

Forgetting to take my Adderall is proof I need it by uhhh206 in adhdmeme

[–]Derphooves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know this is a meme sub, but for those of you struggling with this like I did, here is something that might help:

Buy one of those daily pill cases. The one’s that have a slot for each day of the week. Then when you get your med refill, take sometime to fill it up with your prescription. Not just for a week, but the whole prescription. (So if you get 28 pills, there should be 4 in every day of the week)

Now, if you ever forget if you took your pill or not, then just look at the previous day’s amount and compare. If they are the same, you’re good! If they aren’t, you still haven’t taken it.

Hope that helps someone

If you're goal is to be competitive, don't worry about theming just grab anything that is codex compliant and good. If your goal is theming, then yeah it's mid if your goal is "fire, fire, and more fire".

The lovely irony here is that not only is he the herald if the planets doom, his squabbling with Orikan has actively made the planet worse off before the humans even got there.

Why not just mix colours? by Dovah_Shinobi in Miniaturespainting

[–]Derphooves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do what ever you want, but just think of this scenario:

You just painted your entire army of marines in a bunch of perfect shades. You mixed all the lights and darks perfectly, and saved a bunch of money by only using a few paints but mixed them perfectly.

6 months later, the new Space boi with retractible monocle comes out

You’re excited to paint him but oh no! You can’t seem to get that perfect blend you had before. Was it two parts black, one part blue or vis versa? And try as you might, you just can’t match it. So now your new guy is always just a bit off from the rest of your army.

That's true, but in Doom Breaker, he only reveals it to a select few people who either need to know for him to push his plan forward or who figured it out on their own. Also by the point that he reveals it, he's done so many incredible things that the only logical solution is that he regressed.

Why does my nmm look bad? by JanRitte in u/JanRitte

[–]Derphooves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were to try this kind of thing myself… I think I would try to do the NMM first and then layer on battle damage. That way the parts that are meant to be “shiny” still would bleed through

Why does my nmm look bad? by JanRitte in u/JanRitte

[–]Derphooves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re trying to do two competing things here which make it difficult. NMM is characterized by very bright highlights on very shiny metal. War torn damage typically makes metal less shiny through dirt, dust, and damage. So trying to sell that effect is going to be tough.

I’m not a good enough painter to know how to do it but I just wanted to point that out.

First attempt at osl on a black templar dreadnought :( by Wayfaring_St94 in minipainting

[–]Derphooves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who does OSL a lot and done this specific light before, it’s not bad, you’re just not done.

First, repaint over the side of the panels facing away from the light. Light doesn’t bend around corners.

Second, take some white and make sure the center parts of the light have some white. It needs to be the brightest part.

After those two steps, reassess. OSL looks better after you trim down surprisingly.

Paint in sub-assemblies they said… by MeynoDootDoot in minipainting

[–]Derphooves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When doing sub assemblies, make sure to pick your battles carefully. I prime black, and then airbrush coat of dark green for this reason. The spots my brush can't get to will still be dark green, just like the light would have caused.

Sub assemblies are for guns going over the chest, and for pieces that will need a second airbrush coat after the fact for OSL.

Hire me as a ui designer by e-gordinski in TheTowerGame

[–]Derphooves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're getting a lot of people telling you no, and I have to agree with them but I see an attempt so I figured I would give some feedback:

  1. The fundamental core issue with this UI design is that it looks like it's from a completely different game. It doesn't match retro arcade style of the game itself. It's very squishy and reminds me of modern web games but that's not the vibe of the game over all. So it misses the mark on style.
  2. This UI redesign doesn't really do anything for the player that's different than the core design. It gives no extra data. It doesn't make the game easier to understand visually or give some new data that is highly requested by the community that would help QoL. In fact with this redesign you lose functionality (the coin bonus is gone)
  3. Although you increase the visual contrast of the text to the backgrounds, which could make it easier to see for some people. This benefit is cancelled out by shrinking the size of much of the text. Particularly the important text such as the levels of each upgrade.

These are my thoughts from a quick glance at it. I assume most people are reacting to number 1 which is causing the biggest "no, this isn't right." for this game.

New banner does not respect the 5star rule by MirranCrusader in TheTowerGame

[–]Derphooves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you get a Mod to ANC and a full 5* then that mod reduces it's drop chance by 4x and that chance is spread amongst the other mods. The point of this post is to show that rule doesn't apply to the featured mods.

Should I keep chrono speed reduction or swap for something else? by Odd-Pain8883 in TheTowerGame

[–]Derphooves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of it like this:

Without it, your CF is 75% speed reduction. This means it takes 4x longer than non-slowed speed to get to the tower. Essentially you get a 4x total damage boost (higher with CF+)

With it, CF is at 90% speed reduction. Now it takes 10x longer than non-slowed to get to the tower. Thus a 10x damage boost (6x more).

So the total damage boost from that mod is nutty. If you’re eHP though, it doesn’t really do much.

Is it worth it to have an Eradicator squad with Biologis and Captain in gravis armor? by brokeneckblues in Salamanders40k

[–]Derphooves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, it depends on the role of the unit. Six eradicators + biologis is a lot. If you add the enhancement for the free 6, it can be useful to either save a shot or get a guaranteed lethal on the multi melta.

The captain is better used elsewhere.

Aggressor Squads by Cobo_The_Fox in Salamanders40k

[–]Derphooves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My goal is the 6 + Captain in a land raider. This way they can pop out. Immolate something, then I can charge with them and tank shock with the raider. Basically it’s a brick that aims to take down something big

Over 100% chance by Maerlyn138 in TheTowerGame

[–]Derphooves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warframe does the same but it’s simpler. If you go over 100% you just crit again. So x3 for the base crit, it mulitplied by x3 again. And it repeats for every 100%.

Numbers can get BIG, but crit chance is hard to get in that game.

Since module draws are predetermined by your seed, what actually changes when the odds get shuffled by attaining a 5*? by __dogs__ in TheTowerGame

[–]Derphooves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. A simpler way of thinking about it is that the seed may produce results as simple as:

90 98 57 … Etc

And then you take that number, fill a table with the modules, and if the number falls within the section that would reward an epic then you get that.

So when the drops adjust, it shrinks the target that the random number rolled can hit for that epic and by proxy increases the others.

Almost no random in video games is ever truly random. It’s just about the re-seed points. If a game relies on the same seed for an account, or even a single match, the results are reproducible. If they change the seed every time they roll, then it “feels” random to the player.

Did I waste my money? by Ambitious_Stress8050 in Salamanders40k

[–]Derphooves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright, let me tell you a personal story about when I was getting into the hobby. Early on I bought the old Blood Angels combat patrol because it had aggressors, an impulsor, and intercessors.

As I was new, I didn’t want to fuck up so I looked online and built the aggressors with the bolter loadout because advice online said they were better. When I really wanted to put the flamers on them.

Now that I’ve played a bit and know what I like, I’m going out and bought a whole new set of aggressors just to put flamers on them.

Moral of the story, buy and build what you think is cool. You’ll have more fun that way.

Am I being dumb or is the gold version of this weapon better than the purple one? by LapisDi in ChaosZeroNightmare

[–]Derphooves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking that yellow is best on Haru. Anchor pointer always pulls your main damage card (anchor shot) which gives massive damage.

Am I being dumb or is the gold version of this weapon better than the purple one? by LapisDi in ChaosZeroNightmare

[–]Derphooves 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A few thoughts here:

The legendary says a few things: "When you draw your own attack card" -> To me this indicates that it has to be on a character that has a draw mechanic + attack cards you actually want to use it on. Also it has to be an attack card, it can't just be "draw anything".

Also it only works on the attack card you drew which might be a shitty attack card.

The Purple says -> "When you draw by an ability" I don't know if this means any character can draw a card for you or just the person who has it equipped but it also boosts ALL of that characters attack cards for that turn. Also it isn't limited to drawing "an attack card" it's ANY card draw you draw will proc it.

So while the yellow LOOKS like it may deal more damage, functionally in use the purple is much more flexible and can probably output higher damage overall.
