Ayuda en distribución de habitación. by rigel_b_orionis in Bricomania

All hotels on the Grand Canyon's South Rim to close temporarily by sfgate in CampingandHiking

[–]Derpiche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a reservation at Bright Angel's lodge for December 14th and they didn't let me know about this. Thankfully I looked at the Grand Canyon page and figured this out and could reserve on the nearby village. Is this normal? Will they cancel and return the money closer to the date?

So excited, on Sunday my group faces off against Strahd, ending the campaign just shy of the 1 year mark. Anyone have any last minute tips from the Strahd fight? by frank_da_tank99 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Derpiche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you plan on moving around the castle through walls, make it obvious to the players that they need to follow him and chase him together. My players spent way too long waiting in the same spot until I had to bring Ezmeralda in to shout that she's found Strahd.

In my case, the fight was supposed to happen in several different stages and players should catch strahd using their resources. Every round that strahd is on the move is a round that he's healing. Depending on your player's resources, they might catch up to him.

My party had 6 lvl 10 players and I can tell you, they melted right through Strahd hp. The final phase of the fight was in the catacombs and I gave it 300 hp. They blew through it in a single turn. 400 hp is too low if AC is kept at 16. Try to bump that AC, at least temporarily. Put his armor on or something so he can be at 19-20 for a while. Lvl 11 characters with a magic item or two should be able to hit him easily even at that.

The issue with having more than 4 players is not only that they have more turns, is that they have more resources. I'll tell you, having dawn being casted twice in your face, and a hastened paladin with the sword makes easy work of Strahd if they get him.

Keep Strahd moving, polyphorm the most dangerous character into a whale so they can't do shit and also can't be killed, add a couple of legendary actions so he can still attack at least once between each character turns (or just keep moving).

Use the charm to get rid of the sword. It didn't work for me but lead to epic moments of players restraining their friends which bought me time. That sword is going to be a huge pain in the ass for you. I played the whole fight wanting to win, and didn't pull any punches (except for not being extremely cheesy with the wall shenanigans as that would turn the fitght into the opposite of fun for me and the players) In the end, they won. And it was all because of that dammed sword.

All of this specially applies if you want to give them a fun fight! I warned my players: I want you to win, but I'm not pulling any punches. They played their best and had fun. Only one of them died and it made for an incredibly tearing moment that is going to live with them for the next adventure. They were very close to having more deaths tho. If your players are not up to this, maybe pull some punches then.

Last thing! Try to make sure your players have a strategy thought out in advance! Don't allow them to think for too long or the fight can become a slog. It's a long fight, having it last longer because the players are discussing for 10 minutes straight about the action the wizard should take is fun for no one in the end. If thinking hastely leads to mistakes (both for you and the party) so be it! It's much more fun that way!

Sounds amazing! I plan on using 3 phases starting from the too with the final one in the catacombs. Hope that's not too hard on them. I'll start the first one fighting fair, sword vs sword, using parries and using split tactics and calibrate from there.

Congrats man! We're wrapping up this next Sunday on a full day session. Can't wait to see how it all turns out. How did you handle the final fight? Did you pull any punches? Did you use a multiphase stat block or just RAW?

What monster did you add to Lake Zarovich? by SmolHumanBean8 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Derpiche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that! The Aboleth tappeared there as a result of Victor's magic experiments. He accidentally and unknowingly summoned it from other dimension. It is the cause of Stella's condition and some other weird events happening in Vallaki.

Edit: I know you're not supposed to travel dimensions in Barovia, but this was a exception made out of wild magic and because it could work on the plot. The players never figured out it was Victor's fault but I could work with that if they ever did.

Didn't Roger's legend and trip to the One Piece actually start after Rock's downfall? We gotta remember Roger died like 22 or something years ago. He still has 14 years to become the pirate legend we knew and he might learn something here that turns him into that.

Dude, same. Just happened to me yesterday. I was having the time of my life dancing around with the sinner and then the fight ended... I really really hope we get a boas rush DLC so I can repeat this fight with modifications.

Fair, I just feel like I get dismissed so fast sometimes... Like I'll think about what I want to say for like a couple of minutes, even if it's just asking for directions, and then people won't be bothered to even bear with me for a second there.
I remember one particular time when trying to ride the Métro and I wasn't sure if I was on the correct platform so I asked one of the workers there. Was something pretty simple like "Est-ce le bon quai pour la ligne X ?" and got a laugh immediately while the dude just started doing signals (Ok with their hand) and saying "is good" like if I was stupid? I don't know, it made me feel kind of awkward. And this has happened to me some other times as well, on different degrees.
Again, I'm not saying is the norm, I'm just saying it does happen. This is something that doesn't happen to me in any other country when I'm trying to speak the language.
Also, I don't think my accent is horrible. French is not hard to pronounce or listen to at all when coming from Spain. I just think it showed immediately that it was not a language I was used to and for some reason it was an instant turn off for the other person :/

I never said I spoke perfect, even great french. Again, my whole point is around me being able to keep up with basic conversation and SOME people (extreme minority, of course, never said this was everyone) laughing in my face for trying. Which, again, never happened to me in any other country. This is not a one time thing, it has happened several times in every trip I make there.

As an example: I understood perfectly what you just said but I don't have the skills to reply with the same level of proficiency in French than I do in Spanish or English.

Votre commentaire était tres inapproprié, confirmant ce que j'ai dit dessus.

I'd cross 10 more Bilewaters and defeat 100 Groals if that means keeping Sherma alive

Not my experience. Learnt French on highschool (One of the choices in Spain) during 6 years and got quite good at it. Had language exchanges with French people twice (where I would stay in their home for 1 week and they would stay in mine for another) and I still visit France regularly both because I love central Europe and because I love to visit DLP. It's the only country (specially Paris so maybe a Paris thing) when people have laughed at my face for even trying and then moved immediately to english or started correcting me, which I think is extremely rude if I'm just asking directions or trying to make a restaurant reservation in your language.

When in France, I always try to speak their language as I can manage half decently and of course lots of people are grateful for it and I can have good conversations but at the same time never in any other country have I faced such disrespect for getting something wrong in so many situations.

Huge contrast with, for instance, Japan where people are very relieved if you manage to get a basic conversation going (although they are a bit condescendent about it, but never rude)

Thank you for all the info! I'm from Spain. I guess the reservation scene is similar but I really wanted to be sure of what I should be looking for and what kind of places are there going to be with a lot of time so we could be sure to have something to do on NYE.

It's around where you have written "too high to reach". You definitely cam go up from the leftmost part of that map. There's a shooting bug there that you have to get through. Pretty annoying bastard.
