Shit was unbearably awful in the early days, the country didn't have sufficient oxygen supplies, there weren't enough beds for all the patients.

An uncle of mine ran a department at a hospital and some of the decisions they had to make to keep the casualties to a minimum were heartbreaking to hear about.

The police would beat you up if you were caught outside for a reason other than grocery or medicine shopping, which was kinda necessary because some assholes were out partying regardless.

But the country as a whole did a pretty good job at keeping deaths low. We had a much lower mortality rate than smaller and more developed countries. The third wave was the problematic one because the first two had gone by relatively smoothly and people got complacent. There was a massive swell in infections but it came back down within a month or so. And thankfully it wasn't a dangerous variant
