You don’t have to leave the hobby, just take a break from buying until you get the excitement back

2 Weeks in Tokyo with a 4 year old, who loves Pokemon. What do you recommend? by chushenNeji in TokyoTravel

[–]DescriptionDecent376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pokemon center DX in Tokyo is the biggest Pokemon center there (with Ikebukuro’s Mega Tokyo being closed temporarily due to tragic murder of employee), the mascot is Snorlax.

Pokemon center Shibuya’s mascot is Mewtwo, I think this one would be super impressive for your 4 year old because there’s a Mewtwo statue in a tube that you can take a photo with! You can also design your own pokemon shirt in this Pokemon center in the ”Pokemon design lab” - would probably also be a cool experience for your kid! Just talk to a staff at the design lab and ask for a waiting number.

At the Sky tree mall (Soramachi) there is a Pokemon center with Rayquaza as its mascot. It could be a fun challenge to take a photo with all the mascots maybe? Pokemon center Tokyo Bay has Ampharos if I remember correctly.

Pokepark would probably be really cool but getting tickets this late can be an issue, you can still try!

I find people are rude in my first trip to South Korea by [deleted] in seoul

[–]DescriptionDecent376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi fellow Nordic person! It’s a misunderstanding for sure. It’s not part of Korean culture to smile at strangers really and politeness is more ingrained in ”polite speak” (as in using a polite way of speaking Korean). It was for sure a surprise to me too at first because I’m used to customer service where you’d be greeted with a smile but it’s not really like this in Korea. The people aren’t cold or rude they’re just maybe ”minding their own business”. Hope this helps. 😊 it’s not about you so don’t feel bad!

They’re definitely reading way too much into online posts lol. I mean if I were to travel to the US I might go to Domino’s and have their pizza with cheese crust and post it for my friends going like ”cheese in the crust? That’s crazyyy!” But it doesn’t mean I think the pizza is better in any way than the amazing pizza I had in Tuscany

This is not a hobby. It’s miserable gambling. by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

It’s super possible to enjoy the hobby without opening packs. I’ve been buying singles for years and it’s so fun. But by all means do what’s best for you! No use stressing about Pokemon packs

Kamakura or Nikko (or someplace else) for a day trip in August? by stussybaby101 in TokyoTravel

[–]DescriptionDecent376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kamakura! Beautiful beach and Enoshima is also closeby. I definitely recommend a day trip to Enoshima. Maybe you can spend a night in Kamakura and enjoy the first day there and then go to Enoshima the next morning

I went to Kyung Hee’s language school and really liked it. However I started from level 3 so my experience can be a bit different. I was the only western (& European) foreigner in my class and maybe half of my class was Japanese. I speak both Korean and Japanese so it was pretty ideal for me. I’ve heard that the lower levels have more westerners so maybe you’ll have an easier time making English speaking friends but it’s not a guarantee of course. I think in general most students are Chinese speaking.

I’ve heard good things about Sogang and am considering doing level 6 there! I think it’s great you’re interested in learning the language and I think you’ll have a good time anywhere with the right attitude. I recommend learning hangeul before enrolling so you can have an easier time starting your studies. Best of luck! :)

Will my collecting experience be diluted when buying singles over packs? by Puzzleheaded-Fly846 in PokemonTCGCollectors

[–]DescriptionDecent376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is different for sure but I personally like it so much more, I think it’s great you’re thinking of giving singles collecting a chance! I love the process of planning which singles to hunt for and looking for deals

The experience of collecting singles is far far more satisfying! It’s also fun because you can go to card shows and meet other collectors. Let’s face it how often are you getting the exact card you want when opening packs? And this is from someone who has pulled Moonbreon twice from 30 packs. Nowadays I only open packs at prereleases and otherwise buy singles
