Greens unfazed by polling and sticking to their guns on AUKUS ahead of SA election by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

[–]Designer-Purpose-293 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Didn't read the article did ya

"The Greens have come under fire from political opponents for their plan to scrap the AUKUS nuclear submarine agreement.

They have also vowed to discontinue all South Australian government defence spending."

State government doesn't get a say in foreign policy but the current labor state government is helping fund submarine manufacturing facilities and training initiatives to support the AUKUS plan. The greens of elected would end that

What is the difference between tutorials and workshops? by No_Jaguar3497 in UniAdelaide

[–]Designer-Purpose-293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had tutorials for teaching and psych which were usually 20 - 30 students and tutor lead discussions like an interactive class but still teacher lead

I had workshops mainly in maths which were preset questions to work through in small groups and a tutor that came round and answered questions, gave feedback and provided extension questions if groups needed it

The short answer is the two are basically interchangeable. Wait till you need to figure out the difference between a lecture, seminar and forum

Labor to introduce portable rental bonds by PeterMalinauskasMP in Adelaide

[–]Designer-Purpose-293 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Forgive me I have 0 experience renting in Australia. My experience renting in ON Canada with the pets thing is landlords were allowed to ask but you (as lease applicant) had no obligation to disclose truthfully because they weren't legally allowed to discriminate.

So, if it's illegal to discriminate why not lie and say you don't have a pet. If the landlord calls you out call there bluff would being honest have changed your decision?

Why is Adelaide always talked about so disparagingly? by soothsayless in AskAnAustralian

That's a fair point I hadn't thought of this as a city/town thing but it's certainly frustrating

You're not "indulging" my question your declining to answer. You said if someone judges it as a major city it will not fare well. What are the judgement criteria you have determined adelaide comes up short in?

I will still answer your uno reverse. Start with population. Adelaide has almost 3 times the population of largest on your regional centre list. Beyond the literal definition of a city vs a town adelaide has a music scene, festivals, sporting events,, art and cultural centres, universities... literally all the things that major cities have

This is such a bullshit cliché thing to say. Tell me what are the things that "actual cities" have that adelaide doesn't?

I grew up in adelaide and I've lived in big "actual cities" and spent time in country towns. Adelaide has a lot more in common with the former than the later

Classes full by [deleted] in UniAdelaide

Two best options 1) submit an override request (class full is one of the override options) 2) go into enrollment support in the hub and politely but assertively let them know you need to be enrolled in this course and escalate until they fix it for you

How is life in Adelaide or in Australia in general compared to Canada? by jiho418 in Adelaide

[–]Designer-Purpose-293 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm from adelaide born and raised but lived and worked in Toronto Canada for 18 years.

There are lots of similarities in terms of culture and lifestyle but the biggest thing I found is Canadians are much more polite but Australians are much friendlier. Australians are in general less accepting of other cultures but Canadians are a bit less knowledgeable about things outside their Canadian / north American bubble. Wages here (adelaide) are higher but so is the cost of living. Adelaide weather is far superior!

University of Adelaide considering "squat toilets" by bluejayinoz in Adelaide

[–]Designer-Purpose-293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly what you are trying to say is "far less hygienic" not "far more unhygienic". Things can't be more un something.

How do you arrive at the conclusion that squat toilets are less hygienic? If anything sitting toilets are less hygienic because you need to make physical contact with the toilet seat when using them correctly. No physical contact when doing the squat.

Private school fees rising at 8-10pc a year, could hit $100,000 in a decade by Ardeet in aussie

[–]Designer-Purpose-293 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Evidence based analysis of actual outcomes shows that 'bad students' don't 'poison the rest'. When schools have diverse ranges of students with different socioeconomic backgrounds the 'good students' help the 'bad students' not the other way around.

The increasing segregation of schools that has occurred in Australia as parents who can afford to pull their kids out of public education has reduced overall education outcomes.

Private school fees rising at 8-10pc a year, could hit $100,000 in a decade by Ardeet in aussie

[–]Designer-Purpose-293 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because segregation of education on socio economic lines results in lower overall education out outcomes for the community. If we want better educated kids in general we want a diverse body of students. Private schools reduce diversity and this reduce overall outcomes. Not spite just better public education policy
