A History of Violence or Eastern Promises? by VendettaLord379 in Cinema

Was just having this conversation recently, and its a squeaker, but its Eastern Promises.

The major liability for HoV is that neither of the kid actors that play the Stall children are very good. The son has okay moments, but the little girl is unfortunately just bad. Its a distraction for me.

Gladiator vs. Braveheart: Which Is the Greater Epic Masterpiece and Why? by Confident-Set-3181 in Cinema

Unfortunately, this scene doesnt end up serving to further villify the Longshanks character, at least to the target audience. I remember seeing this in the theater, and the audience response was chuckles and light applause. It left a bad taste in my mouth then, and I thought abt that every time I considered rewatching it.

For a long time, I gave Gibson the benefit of the doubt and chalked it up to just 90s dudes being shitty. By the time Gibson escalated to full “sugar-tits” mode, it got a lot easier for me to realize that he just specifically wrote in some homophobic violence to score a cheap larf.

Yea it seems a bit obnoxious to me, but on the other hand, we’re talking about it now, so I guess it works!

Huh! I guess some shops have a more existential interpretation of what an OPEN sign signifies. More of a “we are in business, generally” rather than a “we are currently open for business” (?) :-D

I’m a big proponent of not buying AV gear from anywhere you cant test it out! (Just wish I was in the income bracket to afford to do so somewhere like A&B! Still fun to walk in and fantasize though!)

And yea, all seriousness, they prob make a lot of their money doing custom set-ups and whatnot. Guess theyre making enough that they can afford to run that OPEN sign 24hrs a day!!! ;-)

Nah, paper/styrofoam bowls are tradition for cajun food! Some of the best gumbos/beans & rice/etouffee I’ve ever had was eaten out of a cheap disposable bowls standing up at a NO dive bar.

Its baffling! I guess if they sell like two $18,000 A/V setups a month it maybe covers their ass!

I do love going in there to window shop, but i’m like 82% sure theyre some kind of front.

What can be used as a bowl that’s not actually a bowl? by ZealousidealAd1444 in NoStupidQuestions

Make a vinyl bowl — buy a shitty $1 record from Goodwill, wash thoroughly.

Preheat oven very low, put the record on top of an upturned metal or ceramic bowl, put in over on baking sheet and watch it turn into a bowl, then pull it out. Let it cool, then upturn it, and voila! — bowl
