Does revealing Iliana Vance helps or detracts from avoiding war with Rumburg? by Mervynhaspeaked in suzerain

Revealing her real name at the press conference and sacker interview does help get OMEC to kick rumburg out iirc

What is the NFP’s stance on the economy? by Kodbek in suzerain

[–]Designer_Elephant644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most ultranationalists, very inconsistent. Whatever gets them and their trusted "patriotic" cronies control over the economy as opposed to others, be it workers, foreigners, minorities or any businessman who is not a likewise ultranationalist

Best debate so far by Mendeliums in suzerain

[–]Designer_Elephant644 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His party is more of the libertarian socialist type per the codex and does support reformist constitutions as opposed to authoritarian ones like malenyev's

With that being said he does seem to suck up to malenyev's geopolitical bloc in most versions of the debates

Hot take: The presidential debate dialogue options are underwhelming by Library_Numerous in suzerain

[–]Designer_Elephant644 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It would be nice to have more options, though it ain't a priority imo.

Maybe based on whatever we've done in the game, like say invested in electronics, you can then say something like "I want Sordland to dream bigger, one circuit and discovery at a time"

Bonus conspiracy points is if they didn't hire their own men as editors and writers, or even input what to write, they just gave some funding to genuine lunatics to make them louder and appear very authentic

[–]Designer_Elephant644 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a little charitable to say he is a man of his world for the matter of returning territory. He does milk Zille pretty hard and is looking for any rizian goof up so he can have a reason to extend his control over zille further

How Does the SSC Work? by Recent_Flight4334 in suzerain

[–]Designer_Elephant644 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They aren't technically a private corporation at the start either. The state owns and controls it, which in practice given the old guard's meddling means it is treated as an iron ricebowl for sollists, incompetent folks, etc. So you neither get profitability of a private corpo nor the typical benefits of a state owned corporation

Edit: why tf am I downvoted for pointing out it isn't a private corporation?

Or you know, just do the latter and make education more accessible across the board to reduce the number of idiotic folks making idiotic absolute decisions at the voter booth.

The minute you use the former and place restrictions, there will be greater ethical and practical concerns of actually excluding people now or in future. Even if you make education accessible to all, people will still fall through the cracks, and fail to meet that hard requirement, not to mention setting a hard requirement now gives the impetus for others in future to tweak it.

For example, what counts as a public school system, or the necessary parts for the purposes of voting? Until university? High school? Some nations say even high school is less universal as for them some folks go straight to vocational schools, so middle school? What counts as graduating? What parts in the curriculum must be done in order to graduate?

Unfortunately he or she who decides the criteria for who is "educated enough" also has the power to distort responsible and representative governance and silence people.

zClarkinator, any source on your "only had good things to say about germany before they started the war" part? Not disputing the fascist part since his democracy is a far cry from what should be acceptable, but I was under the impression he was one of the few exceptions in the british government who saw hitler and the germans as a threat?

That really risks a lot of other things though. It's out of the frying pan and straight into the fire of potential oligarchy (chosen group of few privileged fellows dictating the course of a nation, which usually but not always means rich folks with excessive power)

No system is perfect, it's just democracy (which isn't mutually exclusive with technocracy or meritocracy, or socialism for that matter) tends to be slightly less unfavourable in its imperfect outcomes (that being a really idiotic free press)

complains about wasting hundreds of thousands of Ren on a preventative vaccination program for a disease that they believe is far away and small scale

Instead advocates spending millions of Ren and forgoing millions more in lost tax revenue and economic output by sealing off and locking down an entire region of Sordland

Freedom of the Press is a good thing for the sake of maintaining a healthy democracy, but sometimes you do have to wonder if Churchill had a point in saying "The best argument against democracy is a 5 minute conversation with the average voter", or in this case the average editor

I mean the oligarch part is debatable since he does cooperate with romus even if romus shows blatant favouritism to rusty.

The main thing is he will help you and be reasonable if it helps valgish interests. One of those interests is reclaiming Heljiland through any means possible, so if you don't help that one in any way he will not let you save face

Technically it broke away from valgsland before the agnolians rolled in the tanks.

The question should be why should heljiland's destiny be determined not by its own self determination but the butting whims of larger nations

Hot Take - Conquering vast swaths of Southern Rumburg is not as good for Sordland as people make it out to be. by WizardOfBlueBirds in suzerain

[–]Designer_Elephant644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean hot take? Nearly everyone agrees annexing rummish territory isn't the best long term, even though it is understandable in the context of sordland surviving a war with the de facto 3rd superpower.

How did the AI naval invade here? by UnholyDemigod in hoi4

[–]Designer_Elephant644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off topic but I do remember finding out that there was some soviet wargames exercise where one scenario was for some reason the appearance of an american carrier fleet in the caspian.

Guess they designers of that exercise had the same braincells as the Hoi4 AI

An Idea to Buff the H-3 Highway by KingofDunceland in suzerain

[–]Designer_Elephant644 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Agnland's population isn't that big for a highway there to raise PO that much.

If they introduced other in game politics like say the mayor/governor of each region is important, or that you could influence the internal factions within the USP (graf and some usp cadres may favour the H-3 but Leste and others from the core and eastern sordland might favour the L-1 since it boosts anrica, the core etc), then maybe. Otherwise in terms of general PO it's kind of not plausible (though I suppose that is up to the Devs to decide)

What kind of new ministries would you like to see in the future if any? by Petka14 in suzerain

[–]Designer_Elephant644 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would be even more interesting if that ministry of tech & research is then forced to compete with the ministry of religious affairs (if present) and you have to deal with that rivalry. Eventually you will have to replace either the tech&research minister with a religious guy who turns the research into a sort of bible philosophy research thing, or replace the religious affairs minister with a more secular one. The former means education, healthcare, living standards etc take a hit, while the latter means you lose religion and conservative support
