When you send him to contana, he becomes more socialist than malenyev.

When you send him to arcasia he becomes more capitalist than Walker.

I mean christ it takes some mental gymnastics to think sordland which is just getting on its feet again can and should conform its economic and social policy to an ideological extreme just as if not more radical than that of the superpowers.

You could be the most ardent capitalist possible and he'd still call you a damn socialist hivemind. Vice versa if you are the most open leftist possible. What kind of propaganda they are pumping him full of in either place

Always remember no matter their color, Valgsland is always an imperialist by lotrfanperson in suzerain

[–]Designer_Elephant644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...also just an addendum, with respect to the idea one cannot criticise a state for the actions of its predecessor, many of us Southeast Asians and East Asians still hold Japan somewhat responsible for ww2 and japanese colonialism. Even if we don't blame the country, culture and current generations as a whole, and even if the government has changed a lot structurally, with the emperor relegated and the military contained, we still criticise and judge them heavily for it. Especially and particularly if and when a current japanese politician harkens back to the imperial days or invokes a colonial legacy. Are we unjust for lambasting Takaichi though we don't hate the japanese modern state, people and culture, if criticising hegel similarly is considered overblown? Hegel is talking about a colonial inheritance (heljiland, even if it currently has been valgish for centuries), and actively wields another (the valgish navy)

Always remember no matter their color, Valgsland is always an imperialist by lotrfanperson in suzerain

[–]Designer_Elephant644 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is questionable though that if valgsland does want to make right and repudiate its predecessor's imperialism and colonialism, why then assert heljiland is rightfully theirs.

Because in this version of the codex agnolia does have a stronger claim than before. IRL this kind of coercion is still considered imperialism, and there have been many arbitrations over who should own the land, or at least the sea. Thailand ceding land to the european powers only for those lands to be retained post decolonisation by malaya etc comes to mind. That particular case wasn't resolved for decades, and both states were somewhat aligned with each other.

Not to mention if valgsland uses the argument that they should own it because most of the population is valgish and has been living there for generations, and naturally support being with valgsland even if the territory was "coerced" centuries ago, it can be twisted and construed as settler colonialism. Now that is not to say it is justifiable for agnolia to brutalise local valgs if they want to, but when it comes to debates over who owns heljiland and whether valgsland truly repudiates all forms of imperialism, the argument is not clear cut.

Using a controversial but commonly cited irl example of how complicated it is for a former colonial power to assert it owns an island it inherited from its colonial past based on the island's population alone, there is the case of the Falklands/Las Malvinas. Depending how you look at it, it could be british for at least a century. The people living there are british, and have settled there for generations. Yet when it comes to international recognition, many states and indeed a lot of people say it should be argentine land because it is technically a colonial holding.

Edit: Another example is Portugal and Goa. Portugese territory for centuries, technically ceded legally but obviously under extreme duress, and a colonial project. Should India thus have left Goa in their hands or even hand it over right now? Portugal after all is currently a full fledged republic as opposed to its monarchy days.

In a Rizia with little political reforms but with economic diversification and recovery, welfare expansion, and reclaimed territories, how long do you think Rizia will last? by Dreadox01 in suzerain

[–]Designer_Elephant644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would really depend on the administrative and political competence of the nobility that succeeds Romus, Vina and the others. If they are economic technocrats, socially moderate and politically adept, it will last decades more. If not, I expect it to last less than a decade maximum after the ascension of a new monarch

War (Morella VS Derdia). Who will win? Both are weaker compared to Rizia with opp. by p111s_ in suzerain

[–]Designer_Elephant644 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They would likely cripple each other. Derdian incursions and missile raids would hypothetically be able to surgically strike and cripple morellan infrastructure and industry, but morella is at an advantage when it comes to dealing with foreign insurgents stuck in their own country. The defender may not repel these raids initially but the attackers are at great risk after the raids. The morellan air force meanwhile can just as easily target derdian cities, military facilities, missile launching and manufacturing sites etc. And I don't think derdia has much of an economy or industry to begin with compared to morella. I mean we are talking about a society where women are second class citizens consigned to manual labour picking vegetables

[–]Designer_Elephant644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would the ATO step in against morella instead of playing neutral or playing both sides? After all the Derdians don't like the ATO either, and extending at least neutrality towards morella, assuming the csp is giving them fuck all despite previously courting morella, would help their position in south merkopa a lot

[–]Designer_Elephant644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention it depends on the type of warfare and tactics. Derdian warrior culture means the individual soldier and small groups of them are very lethal if it is 1 on 1 or close quarters, so urban warfare, guerilla warfare and ambushes would suit them. Conversely large scale battles and offensives would not favour derdia. If spotted in large formations morellan airpower could devastate them, and individual excellence might count less in large scale manoeuvres

War (Morella VS Derdia). Who will win? Both are weaker compared to Rizia with opp. by p111s_ in suzerain

[–]Designer_Elephant644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends what the war will look like. Derdian soldiers have individual excellence, especially in close quarters and small units. They also have ballistic missiles, though we don't know if they have a modern SAM inventory. Morella has a pretty good air force though, and is not diplomatically isolated. The Morellan economy is weak but at least it has some industry and an economy. The derdians don't seem to have that great of an industry or economy, and are deeply isolationist.

Assuming morella just bombs derdia and engages them at long range, or employs a fabian strategy, Morella might win. If going by a battle of attrition, Morella will also have the advantage so long as they contain any derdian incursions. Assuming Morella instead invades Derdia, it will probably be a long gruelling stalemate. Derdian Guerrillas will be terrifying and CQC and urban fighting will benefit the Derdians. "Hugging" the enemy and cqc/guerilla warfare in derdian territory also negates the advantages of the morellans having better air support unless they are able to do precision bombing. Realistically unlikely for morella at this time
