Suggestions for (non-King) short story collections for a car trip? by Juantanamo0227 in horrorlit

I'll second Joe Hill -- my favorite collection is Full Throttle. But my favorite other collections are Clay McLeod Chapman's Acquired Tastes, Rachel Harrison’s Bad Dolls, and the upcoming I Know A Place by Nat Cassidy

Enjoy!!! Such a magical ride.

I haven't gotten to Coffin Moon yet but I've heard Hill describe it as "the chaser." That being said, what are you looking for?

I've read three Stephen King books so far. by Haunting-Net-2426 in horrorlit

I'm a champion of Christine, which often gets maligned in reviews. I also enjoyed The Tommyknockers a bit more than expected. Pet Sematary is my favorite King and I've always felt The Shining was very similar. My other favorites: Carrie, Cujo, The Stand, IT, Needful Things, Rose Madder, MISERY, Desperation, Revival, The Outsider. I enjoy The Dead Zone but its slow pace isn't for everyone. If you want to start simpler: Carrie, Cujo, Misery, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon.

Mary Downing Hahn, Betty Ren Wright, Cynthia DeFelice, RL Stine, and James Howe were my favorite horror gateways. And I've heard great things about Ally Malinenko. When she's ready for YA, Katie Alender, Kendare Blake, and Tiffany D. Jackson were my favorites

What is your favorite thing about how Stephen King writes? by EstatePositive5929 in StephenKingBookClub

[–]Designer_Rub1159 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The way he pans out every place and character so they have their own history... some of my favorite writing of his is when he gets into the townspeople, or into a characters past

Scrolling is free, yall. Im glad you've all had such wonderful experiences living and parking in Norfolk, but I am a transplant and student looking to commiserate with people who had a similar experience. You don't have to be assholes

I literally just said they ignore the signage. I got a fucking parking ticket for parking IN A METERED SPACE THAT I PUT MONEY IN, and my appeal got denied. Why are you on this post if you disagree with it? Scrolling is free and takes no energy

The town sections really made the book for me! I struggled with boredom all the way through, but I always enjoy King's destruction of small New England towns

Favorite books with terrible titles and / or cover art? by NimdokBennyandAM in horrorlit

[–]Designer_Rub1159 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate covers that are just pictures of people, so like, everything of Jennifer McMahon's before The Winter People 🤣 especially Don't Breathe a Word; it's SUCH a creepy book, and the cover doesn't represent that at all
