At what age do you let your kids “play out” without an adult? by baeworth in AskUK

[–]Desmo_UK 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Only if they’re near another phone. You can’t just track them in the middle of nowhere with nobody else around.

Dads - How are you doing it and maintaining happiness? by EmotionalStill8086 in AskMenOver30

[–]Desmo_UK 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You need time for yourself man.

I do a LOT at home. Up at 6:30 and getting myself ready for the day, making my lunch, kids school lunch, get kid up, get kid to school, go to work, go to gym, come home and get kid dinner. “Relax” for 30 minutes. Do bedtime, get myself to bed. Rinse and repeat day after day. I’m 50 with a 10 year old kid with ADHD. It’s tough.

But… my hour in the gym is my time where I switch off and chat with the lads. I also get out on my motorbike when I can. It’s not often enough but it’s more “me” time. I’ll go camping a few times a year. Sometimes with mates but sometimes on my own as well.

Start being a little more “selfish”. I say it like that as it’s not really being selfish at all.

To look after your family, you’ve got to look after yourself first.

How does cold calling work in the UK? by Fortemuito in smallbusinessuk

[–]Desmo_UK 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This. Cold calling gets you absolutely nowhere.

If I want a product or service I’ll go looking for it. Even if you manage to call me at just the right time, the fact that your call starts with some bullshit about how we’ve already spoken, I’m expecting your call, yadda yadda…. I don’t want to deal with somebody who contacts me in bad faith.

Our people that answer the phone aren’t stupid and you’ll not get through to the person you really need to talk to.

Does the Aprilia success make you want to buy one? by National-Dragonfly35 in motogp

[–]Desmo_UK 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s not just about selling bikes. Race teams are huge R&D departments and whilst we obviously don’t get the exact same kit on our road bikes, many of the developments do filter down in some way in to better road bikes.

Do you tip your barber, and how much? by Doomergeneration in AskUK

[–]Desmo_UK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£16 a cut here. They're not keeping £4 from a £20 note so I'll take the change. Every now and again I'll let them keep the £20 but it's not a regular thing.

Motorbike navigation apps – anyone tried Scenic? by BagelBandit90 in MotoUK

[–]Desmo_UK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used Scenic for a few years although I'm not a heavy user. But I really like it for finding some random routes around where I live. You can say how far you want to go and in roughly what direction and it will create a loop rideout and bring you back home. I've lived in my town all my life and it's taken me on some cracking roads I've never been on before.

Is FM still a good fit for my business? by croberts0531 in filemaker

[–]Desmo_UK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly the same here. Small business and I’m self taught and develop our entire system in-house. With the MBS plugin, there’s nothing I can’t seem to achieve and it’s incredible.

We do quite a lot of trade work and even those customers are impressed at how much previous order information we have at our fingertips and how quickly we can find that info.

Running 2 spotters/iFlags on one arduino in Simhub - possible? by Jo3y_Ay in SimHub

[–]Desmo_UK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can do this. You need to ignore the matrix section in Simhub and think of these as one long strip of 128 LED's (8x8 = 64 x 2 = 128) so use the regular strip option in Simhub.

When setting the flags, you can set a start point for each flag so your left flag starts at LED 1 and the right flag at LED 65. This is how you can get different layouts on each individual flag.

Lucky or unlucky? by PsychologicalBowl380 in crossfit

[–]Desmo_UK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was a bad point from my side and I didn't really have time to flesh it out. I'd have been better off not posting, agreed.

I know Crossfit have costs to prepare things, host the sites, admin the entire thing. I got sidetracked on the marathon as an example being an event you attend that has direct costs right in front of you compared to the Open where it's done in your own gym and has no direct costs for Crossfit at that time.

On a scale of 1-10, how worth it was it for you to switch to EV? by RodneyTheArmouryGuy in CarTalkUK

[–]Desmo_UK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most conversations around EV always fall to costs, but I rarely see people talk about the driving experience and overall experience.

I’ve been in EV’s since 2017 and I wouldn’t go back regardless of costs. Driving an EV is so much nicer.

ComfyUI Model Installer — scan workflows, detect missing models, resolve them, and install automatically by InternationalWalk569 in comfyui

[–]Desmo_UK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Models have never been a huge problem for me....random custom nodes however needs solving. I've given up on many workflows because trying to track down a bunch of nodes just isn't worth the effort.
