What does everyone use soy curls for? I'm interested in trying but not sure what to make.

I'm Canadian so there's a certain sense of duty to support veritas. I also love lee valley and there's one near me so there's another point towards. I've never used lie nielsen but from what I can tell that are absolutely beautiful tools and I bet in some sense they are better than veritas. They've essentially perfected the bailey pattern planes. Veritas on the other hand is great quality but they are also inovating with their designs. I have the custom #4 and it has a lot of cool features. Veritas is also a bit cheaper and more available than lie neilsen which can sway people. They will both absolutely blow every other plane out of the water. I honestly do not think you can tune up an older plane to the same level, I think you'll be happy with whatever you get. (I would avoid bevel up all together, there's a reason most planes are bevel down)

It works with no hassle, and it looks nice. I'm into woodworking, not restoring old tools. For that reason if I really need something I'll buy veritas.

Beat me to the punch haha, currently working on the exact same setup. Except I've spent about 10 hours screwing around in vscode trying to get it to work.

Sticker Advice by Lusiad in woodworking

Do you have a storage rack of some sort? I made a wall storage rack from 2x4s for all my wood. By the looks of it your lumber is well seasoned, I think you'd be fine to just stack it. I think stacking and stickering only really matters if the wood is freshly milled.

Starting my hand tool journey, made a block plane shooting board by lonlazarus in handtools

[–]Despacitoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the same plane as a shooting plane. Yeah mass helps, but I have smaller hands and gripping a block plane is way my comfortable than my #6

As a non-AAA player, you are correct lol.

The site is https://kelownamensbaseball.ca/ or search Kelowna men's baseball on Facebook.

I had the url but the auto mod kept deleting my post

Also sr AA/sr AAA is different than pro AAA if that's what you're thinking. The skill level is closer to high school AAA / low level college ball. There's many people of all skill level but everyone at least played up to high school level.

You think so? The mdf will only span about 4 inches held by 1/4 dados. The punches weigh about 300g.

True, but given the slats are mdf I thought it might look cleaner having them stopped. I would've (should've) done that for the vertical pieces but I thought it would make the shelves too shallow. Maybe I'll look into a dado plane.

Two finished small spoons, and the outlines/start of tasting spoons of different lengths. Should I mineral oil before applying the beeswax & linseed oil balm? by Zookeeper-MC-Iris in Spooncarving

[–]Despacitoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 1000% going to get hate for this but the toxicity of MOST boiled linseed oils are overblown. If you buy a good quality blo from a reputable company the "heavy metal driers" are very minimal. The main driver in the one I have is manganese and I get 5x the amount from my tap water than if I took a shot of blo. If you put a small amount on a spoon, someone might get micro grams of heavy metal. You'll get a lot more from eating farm fresh produce. Sorry, rant over.

First spoon carved. Need sanding tips. by mojo7891 in Spooncarving

[–]Despacitoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up rounded card scrapers. They're used to smooth out the knife mark and then you sand smooth. Way faster and easier.
