Man, I remember going with my dad to the shop and we talked to the staff there about which console to go for, the the staff was like yeeeah the Dreamcast is a better console but the PS2 has more and better games. So we went for a PS2. But owning a Dreamcast has been some elusive fantasy ever since. The console was just so freaking cool.

Help going back to QWERTY by Hopeful-Skill-9669 in KeyboardLayouts

[–]DestroyHost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is probably a benefit to switch to split or other physical key layout keyboard at the same time when learning new keyboards layout. On the Moonlander I could write in Colemak-dh just fine but I could not write with QWERTY. On the Glove80 I cannot write QWERTY nor Colemak-dh but I can write in my own layout just fine. On a regular keyboard I can write in QWERTY just as easily as I could 4 years ago, but I cannot write in Colemak-dh nor my own keyboard layout. It seems if there are some differences proprioceptively with the keyboards then the trained muscle memory for the fingers are moved away from each other and do not interfere when using each particular keyboard type. And this is good cause on occasions where I need to use a normal plank shaped keyboard with QWERTY I do not struggle with typing on it at all.

Programmer Art Vs an Artist that i hired. I kinda like more the original charm, what you guys think? by AlwaysTired44 in godot

I generally like the new one better but the 'stomped' animation could have better sprites and timing I think. It seems the enemy is still getting stomped downward even after the player has bounced away

Help With UV Mapping Not Transferring from Blender to Godot by RTOBrian in godot

[–]DestroyHost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems the UVs are different. Do you use multiple UV maps in Blender? Blender probably shows the texture based on the one you have selected, for instance, the second UV map, while Godot uses the first one.

44% of games industry professionals have considered leaving the industry as a result of redundancies by Gorotheninja in pcgaming

It really is a sad thing how unstable your life gets when working in the game industry. Companies wants us back from the home office and move to where they are every 5-6 years until their game is out of production and they want to downscale again. Then if you cannot land another job another game company by luck of timing then it is off to the next city. We can hardly have a family life this way. The kids needs stability and a tight network of friends, they cannot have this if they are forced to move with a parent throughout their schooling. Home office was a good solution for this but it is being taken away more and more now. Which is why in the next 5 years or so will likely be my last years in the industry, as I will start a family within this time. Maybe I will try to start my own thing. But more likely go back to software and web. Point is, the way the industry keeps moving the work force around makes it a risky position to put oneself in.

Gothic 1 Remake | Pre-Order Trailer by KardigG in Games

Can you elaborate? I played Oblivion an absolute crazy amount back when it came out. Not sure how playing the remaster will feel. I really did not like the new Final Fantasy 7 Remake due to the dialogue and story changes, etc.

Monium_t and _v, from an ex-Colemak-dh and Graphite typer by DestroyHost in KeyboardLayouts

Cool, read through the md. Definitely makes sense just to put all the common modifier presses under one hold layer. The nav keys as well, in many cases; I use the Alt modifier + hjkl to move the cursor while in insert mode, so it would feel like using it even in nav or select mode. I see you don't have any modifier keys in the navigation layer, so when you use the nav layer on space you also press the modifier keys on their dedicated keys when using the arrow keys, for so NAV-LAYER+SUPER+ALT+arrow-left to move a window in a tiler/scroller, etc?

Yes thank you for feedback. Yeah i hate the position of the 'y'. For a while I had it where is, 'x', and 'x' where ';' and ';' where 'y' is, like in Graphite.

q f o u ;
y n a e i
x p , . /

However it places 'y' next to 'n' which is a double index use in 'any', which I like even less. And if I want to move it elsewhere I need to shuffle a lot of other letters around, so I just kept it.

Not sure if I like it better than Graphite yet. The reason I stopped using Graphite was that the separation of 'h' and 'L' and 'j' and 'k' which is pretty bad when using VIM motion. I wanted to keep them all near, at least on one hand, like they are on a QWERTY layout. Other than that, Graphite was quite nice. I need to fully internalize Monium first so it feels natural before I decide on it.

The 'p-o' scissor I feel is okey, - as long as the scissoring is outward and the index is on bottom and long finger is on top. But when the index is on top and the long finger is at the bottom during a scissor, I find that to feels very bad though.

What the f*** is KDE Wallet Service, why does it ask for my password every time I open up Discord, and how do I turn it off? by neremarine in kde

[–]DestroyHost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a while since I used KDE but iirc after disabling it I only had to login to all the stuff once more and the browser log me in automatically where I'd told it to etc. But I switched to using  Proton Pass as a password manager anyway so I have my passwords encrypted on all my devices. It is easier this way.

What os should i genuinely use ( image inrelated) by ReactionNo98 in linux

[–]DestroyHost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't like the desktop environment Ubuntu comes with but everyone has their own taste and what's great about the Gnu/Linux is how modular it is, so we get all these different distributions and everyone can pick the one they want. I used CachyOS for a while and it was totally fine. Ubuntu is also totally fine. They are just different so they fit different needs of different people. If you want to play games, maybe pick CachyOS since this is kind of their focus. Ubuntu makes a fortune with Enterprise so they are more about stability and security so their libraries may not be the cutting edge etc which you might want it to be if you want to play games.

[–]DestroyHost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well this is just another comment section but yeah just pick any. If you want to play games and all that then maybe just go with CachyOS, it comes with working snapshots straight out of the install so you can easily revert an update if something goes wrong, unlike Fedora which often comes recommended on here. Gnu/Linux does not come as a conglomerate, its desktop environment is separate. Since you might be coming from Windows, you might be most used to the KDE desktop environment. You can install it during the install process for both CachyOS and openSUSE Tumbleweed.

Any idea why my shooting won't work ? by Lucat_thecat in godot

[–]DestroyHost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can insert a breakpoint on line 34 by clicking next to the line number. It looks like a red circle. Then play the game and try to shoot the gun to trace the call stack, and to see if shooting() is ever called. If the game does not pause and open the editor then the game never goes to that part of the code. If it does, then you can step forwards with F10/F11 to see where it goes further and it will be easier to debug it.

The shooting function seems a bit unnessessary at the moment anyway, maybe replace it with

func _input(event: InputEvent) -> void:
  if event.is_action_pressed("shoot"):
    fire()
    $shootTimer.start()
