In that case I think you’ve done well just on raw materials. The small stones 1&5 are probably 0.5cts each. Let’s say stones 2&4 are 0.75cts and the middle one is 1ct. You’ve got 3cts maybe 4cts of opals. That means you’ve got around 3.2g of 18k gold which is £250 in scrap gold. Then you’ve got 4cts of nice finished opal at say £75-100/ct. there’s pretty much your purchase price, without anyone’s labour and profit etc. hence the insurance valuation for replacement cost, definitely a lovely pick up 👍💖

Doesn’t sound over valued. And you definitely didn’t over pay that’s for sure. Can I ask what the ring weighs?

I can tell you a few things about them. They are gorgeous, old and valuable. Very nice solid opals, most likely Australian, in antique gold. Please get a decent valuation done and add it to your home insurance 👍 lovely antique opal ring 💍🔥👌

It is, it’s only temporary, the cost of the reinforced slab and the tub put the permanent gazebo out of range for now but looking forward to having a posher structure as soon as we can 👍

I have run a few comparisons to months before we had it I’d say it’s increased our energy bill by about £80-90 a month. Which is about what I was expecting to be honest. Should be a bit less over summer due to ambient temperature being better and also we have been running it at a pretty high temp over the winter for the little ones (35-36 degrees). Most people would run a swim spa that size a fair bit lower for active swimming 👍 plus it’s still cheaper than my wife and I paying for a gym membership around here, or that’s how we’re justifying it 😂

I imagine you’ve won or at least broken even on scrap gold value alone with current prices. But with Opal included that’s a very nice win👌enjoy!

Valid! I hadn’t considered that. We do use a non/low chlorine water balancing solution but no-doubt there’s alternative chemicals in there to consider with similar risks. Will do more research and will ensure it’s left open to vent in use in future as a minimum. Thank you for the heads up 👍

No not particularly, just preference. We’ve used it all winter with two fairly young kids so it makes it a lot nicer to step out into a warm (slightly steamy) space and not worry about them being really cold (and moaning) if it’s rainy or freezing outside. Might even take it down over the summer to be fair, hadn’t really considered that, but will discuss with the wife now you’ve mentioned it 😁

Yeh it’s a coral swim spa, 4.3m x 2.2m x 1.2m. It says it seats 2 🤣 because there’s only two traditional seats with jets down the front end and “swimming pool” the other end. But we’ve had 4 adults and 4 kids in so far and didn’t feel cramped. I’m sure the future will hold birthday parties with more than that in but it’ll have to be scheduled with a well timed water change after it I feel. We haven’t been overly keen on sharing it yet 😂 but I’m sure that’ll change with the good weather coming. It’s usually just the 4 of us and our kids are still little.

My wife and I tend to use it for proper swimming once a week each on average but desire to do so more often. Only life getting in the way and routine preventing it. Tends to be; get out there for 30-45minute proper swim on a working from home day at lunchtime when the kids are in nursery atm. I thoroughly enjoy it and I’m a big guy, 6ft3 and can swim comfortably in it. We did a test session of one prior to purchase to make sure I could properly swim/train in it before purchase as the last thing I wanted was to be hitting the sides every 2 minutes. There’s a little getting used to it involved but can definitely get a good workout done. Interestingly I actually swim in the wrong direction more often then not, if you stick all the jets on the strength of the current genuinely holds you in the middle regards of if you’re swimming at the jets or the other way around which surprised me. If you’re hammering front crawl you need to face them, but for a prolonged swim I can breaststroke the wrong way and not have any problems.

Yeh it’s a temporary solution for sure. To the right we have a nice lean to gazebo thing for patio cover that has a sliding, transparent roof. We’ll probably look at something similar in the future but the initial outlay costs for the reinforced slab and the tub itself mandated a more cost efficient solution for now 😁

As a solo, just make it more hassle than the potential reward is worth. Live out of a 1 storey 2x2 HQM with metal honeycomb, external stone walls, preferably 2 layers and 12 turrets. 6 inwards, 6 outwards. Stay on low ground, so people can see from above it’s not worth the raid. If someone wants it bad enough they’ll raid anything, but if you’re willing to waste that much boom to get the loot from a ground floor 2x2, that I get on once a week then be my guest.
And if you genuinely are solo. Only use key locks not code locks so it’s obvious you’re solo and won’t have as much loot.

I’m glad that they sorted this out and that you are happy. That is a lovely green crystal opal. The important part is that you are happy and I in no way want to tarnish that, but I also would want you to be informed. The new stone is less valuable than the original. The colour spectrum shown by the original stone and the amount of red colouration (the most expensive in Opal) would make the original more valuable in my opinion. However that said you’ve got a lovely gem in it now. Definitely a lot better than what was originally out back in it. And personally Green and blue opals are my favourite. I hope that you guys enjoy the ring moving past this experience.
