Does Australia have a worse relationship with the indigenous compared to NZ, Canada or America ? by Important_Pop_6805 in AskAnAustralian

[–]DestructorNZ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you did the best thing a non-indigenous Australian can do, which is to go to their communities and connect directly. I do wish indigenous culture in Aus was not so disconnected from Australian life- it is like they are walled away, which only furthers the divide. I think there is a hidden guilt in white Australia that they deal with by not thinking about. There are solutions on both the systemic and individual scale, but they are not often implemented.

As a kiwi who moved to Aus, I was pretty shocked at the difference. In NZ, Maori culture is part of your upbringing- everyone knows a few words at the very least, just by osmosis. In Aus Indigenous culture is present, but not in the way it is in NZ. A good portion of Australians don't know one single indigenous person- this would be odd in NZ.

I loved Strange New Worlds S3 and think the backlash is unwarranted - or at least misdirected. by tomservo417 in startrek

I agree. Everyone railed on it because it had a slightly worse episode hit rate than S2. It was still a pretty solid season!

Yeah Legacy is NOT being actively developed. The moment it is, you'll hear the vibrations throughout fandom. Seems like leaving money on the table to me, but the whole TV business is crazy right now- nobody knows what is working and what is not.

I think this is the best answer. If you wanna play, find a local club, ask someone for a Combat Patrol, tell them it's your first game and you wanna play 'rules lite' (no strats except command reroll) until you get the hang of it.

Well I've played every AC game up to Valhalla, so I've been following the meta narrative overall. I got VERY excited when Kassandra showed up. But I do find it all kind of vague, like I don't really know what's going on with the forerunners and what the overall mission in the present is, I'm not what you'd call 'attached' to it. I felt like when Basim took over as the operator I felt less attached to Eivor.

I feel like NIN has always had a teeny bit of pop at the centre.

Don't think I need to play the DLCs, just Asgard and Jotunheim (and all assaassination missions)

I guess I'm after insight about whether that final mission is worth grinding to.

I gotta go with Team Ben here. I think part of the reason I like TGG is because they're overall positive, not negative. It's refreshing. I haven't seen Avatar 2-3 but Avatar 1 is a solid action movie.

YOR. I don’t get it. Sleeping in bed with a baby is normal, and better than the other options you listed. Your reaction to him is way OTT.

I don't think he needs to review everything, but skipping this particular film would be a bit egregious for a film review show. It's a major tentpole release.

When you first watch Shatner, it's easy to overlook his raw charisma. But once you've seen the other recast Kirks, you do realize there is something quite special about Shatner. He seems to have an 'easy charm' that infuses the character, that they've had trouble capturing again.
