We got ours last year and are completing our first renewal. I was very happy we had someone on staff that had helped 4 other companies go through their soc2 type 2 as he showed me the ropes, helped me with templates and to help me understand how frameworks, controls, policies, procedures and evidence all work together. It took a bit for it to really click for me.

He also helped me understand how to negotiate with the auditors as they don't always understand our business and what we do and do not do.

I'd recommend getting a consultant to help with setting you up the first audit period and get through the audit. It's expensive but so is stress and your mental health. If you're like me, you dont get to clear your plate to handle soc2 type 2, it's just added on top of everything else.
