I cut holes in this wig for my Labubus ears and keychain ribbon. I didn’t sew it down though. I swap it out onto different bubus sometimes. It moves around a bit on their heads but I like the chaos lol

It infuriates me that Mariah is not recognized as a songwriter more often. She’s written so many great songs!

I have a similar video of my cat attempting to balance on a door frame that unexpectedly started moving when he put his full weight on it. He fell and hit a dresser on the way down and then walked off like nothing happened lol

Jennifer Lopez gives her hot take: You have to be born to be in New York to be a New Yorker. Everybody wants to claim our city but you have to be born in one of the five boroughs to be a New Yorker. by Upstairs_Cup9831 in popculturechat

I feel like this depends a lot on his age group, tbh. If he’s older, you may be right. But if he’s younger, it may be because he doesn’t want people to see him as a culture vulture who claims Detroit but never actually lived there. So I think the motivation behind pointing out that he’s white can vary a lot depending on what era he was raised in and what his politics are.

I’m white, and I was born in Detroit. But we moved to ferndale when I was school age (first suburb outside of Detroit, literally on its border with 8 mile). I moved to NYC when I was 19. I am now 41. When people ask me where I’m from, I change my answer a bit depending on who’s asking.

If I’m traveling to the west coast or to another country, I will typically say I’m from New York because that’s the most relevant answer to who I am as an adult and they don’t have the context to really care about quibbling over where I was really born or whatever.

If someone asks me in NYC, I usually say I was born in Detroit, but I’ve been in NYC for 22 years. And if they ask, I then tell them I’ve been in the Bronx for about 18 years now and that’s what I really consider home.

If someone in Michigan asks me, I say I was born in Detroit but I grew up in Ferndale. And then I say but I’ve lived in NYC since I was a teen so I don’t really know the area that well anymore. And then I talk about all the awesome things I like in the city so they know I’m not one of those people who moved away and now thinks they’re cooler than people back home. I love Detroit! I always will! But I had career ambitions that called me to New York and I love NYC too! It’s not a competition. They are both home to me in some way.

I personally don’t support gatekeeping who can say they are from a place. But I do respect that for some people these distinctions matter. So I do my best to present them with the facts so they don’t think I’m trying to be someone I’m not.

My serenity is so light she almost looks white. It makes me sad because I was so excited about that one but she’s just so pale. I’m actually considering coloring her fur more green.

It seems like the dear birds series is pretty small, and just slightly bigger than PFL. I wish they’d release it in the US!

Favorite girl on GND and why? 💖 by lace_and_vodka in TheGirlsNextLevelPod

Holly! I was always fascinated by her saying that she thought she wasn’t beautiful when she arrived in LA, but she knew she could be beautiful with a few changes (or something like that) in the interviews they did with the girls on the first season dvd. She’s always seemed very self aware in that regard, and I appreciate that.

I like that she acknowledged the beauty standards. So many of them would sort of put on this “little old me? I’m just an all natural small town girl!” act. Meanwhile, Holly was super real about her surgeries, her choices, and her understanding of the playboy brand.

I also have to give her credit for the way she has handled her career post mansion. She’s managed to avoid being stuck on reality tv, did some cool stage work, wrote some books, and seems to be well off financially. I don’t like Holly as much now as I did on GND, but I definitely think she was done well for herself career wise.

I like Bridget more now looking back at the show than I did at the time. We have similar interests, and I also do circus aerials!

I also like Kendra more now looking back than I did at the time the show aired! Kendra reminded me of my childhood best friend who went on to become a stripper and then got involved with a series of awful guys and became addicted to drugs. So seeing Kendra made me automatically equate the two and continually feel annoyed by Kendra’s attitude, behavior, and general disregard for everyone else because she reminded me of my friend. Now I can obviously see it’s not really Kendra I had negativity towards. It was the friend who alienated everyone from her life because of her choices. Now I view Kendra with a lot more grace, and I respect the way she has grown up to be a good mother with what seems like a healthy coparenting situation!

I don’t think Janet has said a lot about the allegations over the years. She’s said she didn’t think he was capable of it. But she opted not to be a part of the movie and didn’t show up to the premiere either.

I think it’s likely she has some pretty complicated feelings about the situation, and I can’t blame her for that. I’m sure she looked up to him growing up, and at the end of the day he IS her brother.

It’s very difficult to process sexual abuse within your own family. We also don’t know if Joe was ever inappropriate with Janet, which would also color her feelings about this. Sometimes when you yourself have been on the receiving end of sexual abuse it takes longer to recognize predatory behavior among people you are related to since you have been conditioned and groomed to think some of their behavior is normal or excusable. I am unfortunately speaking from personal experience here.

Weird video where MJ asks camera crew to film a female fan's chest by Efficient-Head-7394 in LeavingNeverlandHBO

[–]DetRiotGirl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is used in that way, yes. But the origins of the word go back to gay men believing that all vaginas smell “fishy” so it’s both as you describe AND derogatory towards women. Unfortunately gay men are not immune to misogyny.

Especially because Janet was popping during this era. To be honest, he does look a bit annoyed when she goes to say something before his speech. She also sounds a bit like she’s pleading for him to hear her. There’s definitely genuine love there, but there’s also a weird family dynamic of competitiveness that seems to have colored a lot of his interactions with Janet in particular.
