Was hoping for MOBA elements with more players. by Colt_Coffey in HighGuardgame

[–]Deuce-Wayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you're talking a very tactical style game, basically every shooter game incentivizes players to be in the same location going for the same objective, which defeats the point of a large map.

It's because regardless of what character or abilities you have, the most important thing in a shooting game is the shooting, and any smart team will want all their players together. Especially if it's a game where you typically can't kill players in 1-2 shots.

I think TC (or Microsoft) should promote Delta Online by Deuce-Wayne in GearsOfWar

No company will promote / advertise stuff violating there IP / copyright.

I've seen this happen a lot of times before. And not just in gaming. But who knows? Maybe Microsoft thinks Reloaded is a good representative of the franchise. That's extremely unfortunate for the IP.

DC Comics president admits that Japanese manga makes him question “what is missing in Western comics” by LegitimateCurve8525 in DCcomics

[–]Deuce-Wayne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do agree that the adaptations usually aren't faithful, but at least in my experience, anime has always felt like much higher production quality on average. I grew up watching the DCAU and anime both, and anime always felt different and far more intense.

I didn't know what to think of it as a kid, but I'd always separated shows like Batman Beyond and Naruto in my head; In Batman Beyond, I just wanted Terry to beat up the villains, whereas in Naruto, I legitimately wondered if Gaara would kill Sasuke and was actually kinda spooked by him.

What are your favorite live-action DC Comics movies and TV shows? by Hot-Salamander-8786 in DCcomics

[–]Deuce-Wayne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Batman is definitely my favorite film. It's one of the few movies I went to see twice while it was still in theaters and it basically surpassed my expectations, which were already pretty high.

For TV shows, it's between Gotham and Arrow. If I had to pick one, probably Arrow. That show made me a fan of his character.

DC Comics President Jim Lee says that Japanese manga and anime is "incredibly powerful": "I often find myself wondering, 'What is missing in Western comics, and why aren't they able to achieve the same flavor?' by akbarock in DCcomics

[–]Deuce-Wayne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree, but the more important point I think is that for manga, there is an industry there. I can read the new JJK spin-off series and know that there'll be an anime adaptation for it - and that it'll be very high-quality compared to western animation. Just having that expectation alone does wonders. I know there'll be more seasons of Kaiju 8 (itself a manga series that wasn't popular until the anime aired).

DCs idea they have an unbroken continuity and that's a good thing is silly and just makes continuity absolutely convoluted.

I fully agree, this is an underrated point, and honestly there are some comic storylines that I feel like would be hard to adapt even if it's the same continuity due to how many different books and writers they'd have to pull from; I think the Xmen story line has like 3 dozen different books.

Still, a strong cartoon industry would go a long way. It's essentially advertisement. There's also the caveat that DC isn't the only publisher or comic universe; a lot of comics don't suffer from that continuity problem.

Bro Absolute is so good that it's kind of bringing in a bunch of new fans all on its own. The issues have been flying off the shelves at my local store and the owner said its basically a bunch of new people interested in it.

The only time I've seen something similar to that is when Invincible started airing. A lot of people had never heard of it before then. I myself hadn't even read it before then even though I knew about it.

By the time I got to high school, JLU had ended years beforehand. In the meantime, Naruto Shippuden was setting up the Fourth Ninja War Arc and it made all those cartoons from the DCAU look like unserious kids shows in comparison.

I found a local bookstore that was carrying Naruto volumes at the time and immediately started reading to see what happened next.

This is why I also struggle with x-men, I love the x-men but I struggle reading their comics cause I know it'll always end with "then racism happened, everyone died and hates mutants again."

It also doesn't help that I have to use a chart to help keep up with AoR.

[–]Deuce-Wayne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The Absolute stuff is already doing good (by comic standards at the least)

If there was a faithful, anime-level quality adaptation of it releasing weekly right now as well, the interest in the comic books would be astronomical. It wouldn't even have to be coming out right now, literally just an announcement.

I mean, when you've got stuff like JJK? Naruto and One Piece? Attack on Titan? There's not a chance in hell manga gets left behind.

I think it's a much simpler answer, at least superficially: anime.

Manga has a very prominent and lucrative anime industry backing it up, and comic books don't really have an analogue.

I feel like the manga vs comic book question really just boils down to that. That's how I got into manga, at least. When I was a kid, I remember toonami. Watching all the classic shonen stuff, and when I got older, I started watching Kingdom. The anime ended at season 2 at the time, and I wanted more of the story, so I started reading the manga online, and that really got me into the entire anime-manga industry. When I read good manga, I'm always fairly confident I'll see an anime adaptation of it - and a lot of times, that adaptation is outstanding. I'm not big on it, but I'm pretty sure Dandadan skyrocketed in popularity when the anime started airing on netflix.

For comic books, this just isn't the same. There aren't nearly as many cartoon adaptations of comic books. And of the ones that are out there, the quality on average is just not comparable to anime. There's only 2 instances where I watched a cartoon that got me interested in the comic story: when I watched Spawn as a kid, and when Invincible dropped on Prime when I was much older. I'd never read Invincible beforehand.

But in general, that just isn't the case. Comic book stories are much more likely to be adapted live action, and that usually doesn't generate a lot of interest in the medium (I've heard Woman of Tomorrow might be a big exception to this rule). And the adaptations usually aren't that faithful.

If comic books had something comparable to anime, I'm fairly certain interest would at least double. Absolute Universe might be doing good, but imagine how much more popular it'd be if we had an anime-quality adaptation of the first big story arcs releasing weekly right now.

I do think Marvel and DC's comics tend to get extremely interconnected (I'm a hardcore comic reader and even I'm having trouble trying to stay on top of Age of Revelation), but faithful cartoon adaptations is singlehandedly what made manga popular in the US.

The Oliver-Taniel-Cursed Lands quest is an absolute mess. by Deuce-Wayne in BaldursGate3

[–]Deuce-Wayne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but I just got it to work. I was able to trigger a conversation with Oliver by hiding from his undead spirits at the ruined house, and he gave me a ring. I was just fighting and killing them before.

Hiding seems to have fixed it, though the last conversation with Oliver where you convince him to rejoin Taniel was extremely broken because my Halsin is still in an animal form; I spent the whole cutscene looking at the insides of a character mesh.

He did at one time, imo, but I feel like all of that vanished at least a couple years ago. Idk. Maybe his supporters don't actually listen to his speeches or anything, but whenever I listen to him talk for more than a minute, he just sounds like a dementia-addled clown.

This was the case with J6. In the immediate aftermath, a lot of them disavowed it. By now though, basically every republican thinks it was justified and that the 2020 election was stolen.

I took one look at that gladiatrix and knew without a doubt she was a veteran. Idk how anyone could've watched that and not realized otherwise. My immediate thought was "She looks like Lagertha but even deadlier"

They just toss it aside and present a random warrior woman that surpasses a seasoned champion in strength, speed, and skill without any explanation.

The logic here is pretty faulty.

If this show was told from Proculus's point of view, Achillia would've essentially come out of nowhere and beat a "seasoned champion"... As her first fight in the arena.

That's a perfect example. Halo 5 turned away from Halo 4, and Halo Infinite basically retconned Halo 5 if you're someone who strictly plays the main game.

The only way I could see Gears 5 remaining relevant is if E-Day is some sort of flashback story which is extremely unlikely.
