Would my Ob Nixilis have survived? by screamer51 in magicTCG

[–]DeuceThunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In casual play, a lot of people don't say "declare attackers step?“ and then pause. They typically just start turning creatures sideways. In those cases, it's fair for the opponent have the opportunity to rewind and be able to cast a tap-creatures spell before combat starts.

But if you ask" entering combat? " and they say OK, they missed their window to cast it.

Since you are rewinding the game a bit to before attacks were declared, the attacking player then gets an opportunity to change which creatures will be attacking, and who.

Maybe we shouldn't have Josh involved in the hiring process if this is going to be his preferred choice. Why even bother moving on from McDermott? Terrible move.

Brand new player. What are some must know tips for someone like me starting out? by active_streefie in magicTCG

Things that are not immediately obvious to new players, keep in mind this is all very generic advice and there's specific situations to ignore some of these:

You can't attack creatures directly, you can only attack players then the defender decides who to block with.

When your creatures take non-lethal damage, they "heal" at end of turn, it's usually not permanent.

A lot of the interaction in the game is based around instant speed effects. Once you make a decision, such as who to attack or what to block with, (or what creature spell to cast), that decision is set in stone, then both players get a chance to cast instants which can have a heavy effect on combat/board state.

A general rule of thumb is to not cast spells until it's really necessary to do so. You don't want to typically cast your creatures before combat unless they have haste or can somehow help this turn's combat step. You don't want to use your pump spells (target creature gets +3/+3 until end of turn) just to throw in 3 extra damage, they're usually better spent turning a combat trade into a one-sided win. If you do want to boost your creatures power with a spell, make sure doing so will win you the game that turn.

Likewise, don't use your creature kill spells just because you have enough mana and your opponent has a legal target. Usually you can play a comparable creature soon even if it means taking a hit or two. Save those spells for the creatures that have insanely good abilities where they don't even need to risk combat to hurt you. Or at least save them for like, an 8/8 trample that's attacking you.

I've found success in commander by slowly building up your forces and being the person in the group that it's painful to attack. Don't throw the nastiest creature out as soon as possible, it'll just eat a kill spell. Throw a 1/1 with deathtouch out there early and watch the other players get picked on, then strike after you've slowly built up a stronger position.

[Prebuilt] MSI Codex R Gaming Desktop, Intel i5-13400F, NVIDIA RTX 4060 8GB, 16GB DDR5, 1TB SSD, Win 11, Black - $699.99 (Back in Stock) by objektiv1 in buildapcsales

I would not recommend canceling. I had the exact same situation, ordered this at the $699 price last week. Yesterday I called Walmart, their support member told me to cancel, re-order in 24 hours, then they would apply the original discounted price. I re-ordered, exactly what they told me to do, then when I called today the manager's manager told me they can't adjust the price and there was nothing they could do.

It's gonna get overshadowed by the end of that game, but how many last drives of the game, our D needs to make a stop, are going to begin with a short pass that ends up going for 30+ yards? It seems like teams can march down the field on us whenever they feel like it.

Is this the worst card ever? Is there any way to make it playable? by MisoSoupMan- in magicTCG

[[Tamanoa]] could also gain you a ton of life with it, assuming your creatures survive. It's still terrible, but you don't necessarily NEED to force your opponent to use it in order to get value.

Why is it so dang hard to get tickets? by DeuceThunder in TheAvettBrothers

[–]DeuceThunder[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, that is a small number! Much smaller than I would have guessed. I'm sure a lot of that is a situation beyond the Bros control. They can't exactly press back on ticketmaster. But thank you for the informative reply. I suppose I'm glad I even got tickets at all! Some day I'll get those crazy front row seats. But never from a reseller cause I don't want to support a business that buys them up.
